  1. Yep, bet they're your most dependable and predictable too. Well.......that can depend on the day ;)
  2. Our most hard-headed dogs are our best workers. The boys who are softer in temperament, are definately the weaker links in the team.
  3. The guys name is Heini Winter. I posted a link to this back in April when I was just blown away by his dogs http://www.dolforums.com.au/topic/218314-free-running-16-sleddogs-you-have-to-see-it-to-believe-it/page__p__5244195__fromsearch__1#entry5244195 And yes Rubyblue, they are Eurohounds
  4. And if it's the same person that I think you are talking about, he has dumped two GSP's and a Siberian in recent years because they didn't make the cut Nah, you need the brains to get you around the trail smoothly! You could always convince OH that he gets the breed of his choice and then suggest he race you on the trail. Then when you kick his butt you can say, "See, I told you we needed another Sibe" ;)
  5. That was at Wingello this year. I met this lovely boy. Esky, as you know, it's very important to get two dogs that match when you are going to run them in a team. A dog of another breed that might very well run for 5kms at 10km/hr is not going to keep up with a Sibe. Your team will be mismatched and you will end up getting very frustrated. Good conformation is not the only thing you need to look at. The natural ability and drive to pull in harness is imperative. I know so many people that have come out to our training sessions with their pet dog who believe they will be great racers because they pull them on the lead when walking. Not so! It's hard to train a GSP because it's not inbred for them to pull. A lot of time and dedication is required and from being involved in this sport for 15 years, I can tell you there are only a handful of GSP's that have continued running past the age of three because they have been pushed too hard too fast. They take time to mature and unlike my Sibes who start training in harness from 6 months, I wouldn't put a GSP in harness until around 18 months. Ultimately, if your partner is adamant that he will not have another Sibe, then you are probably looking at having two 1 dog teams if you want to run successfully. A pointer of any kind will be too fast for Esky but other breeds will be too slow. I guess what I'm saying is that you can only run as fast as your slowest dog and if your team is mismatched, not only will you be frustrated but your dogs will be too. Make sense?
  6. 11 Siberian Huskies ranging in age from 12 years to 10 months. All boys
  7. Yeah but they are like potato chips. You can't stop at one ;)
  8. My pack of Siberians taken last year. Up the top is Ollie and Spike. Bottom level L-R is Roary, Sully, Rex, Jonty, Cooper, Rookie, Oscar and Carbon. And this is our youngest boy, Ruff. He was pretending to be a show dog at the SHCNSW speciality show last weekend with a friend of ours handling him.
  9. I wonder why we don't have a vaccination against snake bites? Apparently they do in the US against Rattle Snakes - or is someone just having a lend of me We've had three dogs bitten in the past 18 months, sadly losing one of them who was only 15 months old. We have done absolutely everything possible to eradicate the snakes' need to come into our dog yards and we are stumped as to what to do next. My lovely neighbour on the adjoining property just came and told me that he saw a brown go across our driveway this morning and into the paddock towards the dog shed/yards. I'm on tender hooks already and it's not even summer time!
  10. Oh FFS! I can't say here what I really want to say
  11. How could there not be someone looking for this little fella?
  12. So what happened with the baby Teebs? Was he reunited with his owner/breeder?
  13. This is what I do with new pups. For a couple of nights anyway and then it's up to the dog yard with the big kids Poor baby I imagine his owners will be having a sleepless night also.
  14. If this was a pup from my kennel, I'd be very annoyed if not told her intentions. Whether or not the breeder takes the pup back from her or tries to help find a new home, they should definately be her first point of contact. The whole excuse of not keeping this pup because she is having a baby infuriates me
  15. We have 11 entire males living here. The eldest is nearly 12 and the youngest is 8 months. We don't have any issues but they honestly have nothing to fight over. If there was an entire bitch here, I guess things could be different. You just have to manage them well and convince them that you have more testosterone than they do ;) And being the only female in this house, that can pose a problem at times
  16. Doesn't that photo just tug at the heartstrings? What a gorgeous old boy.
  17. I very much agree with this. We have been racing dogs for 15 years now and have been parents for 5 years. I can remember a fellow musher saying to me when I was pregnant that we would have a well behaved, beautifully mannered child due to the way we raised our dogs. We tend to find that the naughtiest, brattiest (is that even a word?) kids in our sport, come from homes where the dogs are right royal turds! Personally, I don't particular want to spend time with either of them ;)
  18. Well I'll be buggared :D That nosey woman would think that I'm the worst dog owner in the world then. Training and racing our boys in minus temperatures, rain, hail or shine. And don't even go there with the snow!!!
  19. That is very detailed!! Have you thought about this before? Maybe!
  20. Spike - like Carson Kressley - "Sparkle hands, sparkle hands!" Rex - like Pierce Brosnan - "Bond, James Bond" Cooper - like Vin Diesel - "It doesn't matter if you win by a second or a mile, winning is winning!" Jonty - like Dug from the movie "Up" - "I was hiding under your porch because I love you." Rookie - like George Clooney - "You're either in or you're out. Right now." Sully - like Jim Carrey - "It's party time. P, A, R, T. Why? Because I gotta!" Ollie - like Ben Affleck - "Oh man. Well, we all gotta die, right? I'm the guy who gets to do it saving the world." Oscar - like the Commando - "Drop and give me 20 - NOW!!!" Roary - like Jeffrey Donovan from Burn Notice - "This neighborhood is mine! You hear me? My neighborhood! My neighborhood! This neighborhood is MINE!" Carbon - like Adam Levine from Maroon 5 - "Sunday morning rain is falling, steal some covers share some skin..........." Ruff - like Macaulay Culkin before his voice broke - "You guys give up yet? Or are you thirsty for more?"
  21. Totally agree! We have 11 Siberians and a 5 year old boy. The dogs are absolutely wonderful with him but I am at home all day and have the time to put into all of them. Five children would take up all of your friends' time let alone a new puppy, regardless of breed. My sister has four children under 8 and one Labrador. Guess where the Labrador spends alot of his time - yep, my place!!
  22. My husband says that I would sell him to pay for things our dogs need. He's probably right *cough* and that's wrong , HOW?? :D He gets some interesting reactions from people when he says it. Honestly and truly, I couldn't sell him, he's a bit of a keeper but he knows that I will go to the earth's lengths for our dogs. And so would he, he just doesn't admit it so freely ;)
  23. My husband says that I would sell him to pay for things our dogs need. He's probably right
  24. I had to laugh at this because I know so many doggy people that do not wear anything else other than dog clothes.
