Frothy Bile In The Morning...
Gomez the Norfolk replied to Gomez the Norfolk's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
showdog, thanks, I'll get some tabs tomorrow, I'm thinking he's not going to puke tomorrow morning, as it has been every other day, but who knows, I will be ready for Thursday, just in case... pebbles, I'm so sorry to hear about your Jodie, something similar happened with my Marilyn cat several years ago, but it was oral cancer, poor little girls... off for our walkies now... -
Frothy Bile In The Morning...

Pebbles, dare I ask what was wrong? 1 more episode of froth and I plan on going straight back to the vet, not to worry... Peigirl, he's not really itchy anymore, he had a bout of dermatitis a few months ago, but that all cleared up - he scratches here and there, but even with the dermatitis, it wasn't obsessive or damaging... -

Frothy Bile In The Morning...
Gomez the Norfolk replied to Gomez the Norfolk's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Eeeepp! I hope he doesn't have IBD... His bm's are the same as usual, just a bit darker, and smaller, of course, after 2 days on just chicken... I haven't noticed his stomach, I'll have to study him this afternoon - but he still wants belly rubs, and the vet palpated pretty firmly and he didn't even wince - his appetite has not changed one bit, he is still a hoover with his food, and he's scavenging even more on his walks, which he does when he's very hungry - the day this boy goes off his food is when I fly to the emergency vet!! Maybe he picked up something nasty (ier than usual) on one of his walks... The only other think I can think of is he has been gnawing on a Nylabone and some small chunks are missing, so maybe one of those chunks is irritating his belly...** Peigirl, he's never had allergies before, but he also has never had the pleasure of an Australian summer before, so who knows what his reactions will be... We just went for a long walk and a game of fetch and he was being perfectly normal, his usual playful self... **Can you tell I have been racking my brains trying to think of possible causes for this?! -

WL, yep, he eats Eagle Pack Holistic, sometimes we add a bone here and there, but nothing strange lately... he eats twice a day, 7am and 7pm, 40gr of kibble each time - so that's the last he eats, he's been onthis schedule for years now, and he's been fine... Maybe he swallowed too much harbour water last week and it had a parasite? He hasn't been swimming since the puking started though... I have considered BARF, but I'm not totally convinced by it for many reasons, the least of them being the convenience issue... But I may have to reconsider, if it's the EPH causing this, I have run out of kibble options I would feed him... He's being funny, not lethargic or anything, but stuck to me like glue, even if I go to the loo, he follows me, and he's a bit jumpy at regular everyday house noises... -
Jrt (rough) People Or Groomers
Gomez the Norfolk replied to Clyde's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Westielover, the Secret Dog's Business place changed hands and they no longer do stripping at all - I did find a place in Balmain called Heavy Petting (I'm not kidding!) and they do stripping... but it is expensive $120 for Gomez... I did make a very specific list of what I wanted, how I wanted it, etc... From what I have seen, and groomers/breeders have told me, when you clip a Norfolk, his wiry outer coat grows back soft and wavy, I can't imagine it woud be any different with a wiry JRT, same kind of coat - the softer coat not only looks silly on the doggies, but as Raz mentioned, it ruins the coat in the sense that they are no longer insulated or weather proof as they are meant to be... I would also avoid the furminator, it cuts the rough outer coat while not really removing any of the undercoat, i have yet to try a Coat King... -
For the past week Gomez has been puking up a bit of frothy bile in the morning - it's only every other day, like clockwork - Took him to the vet on Sunday and he is just fine in general - she suggested boiled chicken for a few days, it's been 2 days of boiled chicken now... He usually eats twice a day, but since this started I have been giving him a little snack just before bed, so he's not on an empty stomach... This morning, again with the bile... His poos are darker than usual also... What else to do?

Good advice from showdog, also talk to the groomer at Whoopsys in regards to the above advice, she may or may not know all the details... -

Dick Van Pattens Or Eaglepack?
Gomez the Norfolk replied to snarferama's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
HA! I could give Gomez the whole bag and he would still think it wasn't enough... :D Don't worry, you may have well been seeingt that look all along, but you are now attributing it to them not thinking it's enough b/c you know you're feeding them less... does that make sense? -
Dick Van Pattens Or Eaglepack?
Gomez the Norfolk replied to snarferama's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
We have tried them both - Eagle Pack Holistic is our choice, Gomez got pasty soft poo with the DVP - went back to the EPH Anchivey formula and have not looked back... -

Sometimes the food they eat can affect their coat, what do feed your little guy? Also, how long have you been giving him the oil, it could take several weeks to see results - Gomez also had really dry, itchy skin for a while and a combination of Eagle Pack Holistic Anchovy/Fish and Omega3 oil has sorted him out - he gets stripped only, never clipped, and that doesn't make it worse, on the contrary, getting rid of the undercoat seemed to help a lot also... A little off topic, I don't know where you are, but I wish you good luck in finding a goomer that will do hand-stripping, they are like diamond dust - if you're in Sydney or Melbourne I can recommend the only 2 I have found... -

How is Pearl's cute cheek today? -
I find Eagle Pack is better than Royal Canin, better ingredients and less fillers and additives, especially the Holistic line - Gomez eats the fish version and does very well on it - I'm in Sydney and just ordered some from www.pookinuk.com.au I found they have the best prices and cheapest delivery -

Eagle Pack have a large breed formula as well -

Gomez-vs-guinea Pig "food"
Gomez the Norfolk replied to Gomez the Norfolk's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Yeah, I have no idea what it was! Apparently guinea pigs eat their own poo? I don't know - anyway, I'm glad to hear he'll be fine! Thanks! -
Today we were friends' house and Gomez ran all over their garden - they have guinea pigs and Gomez nibbled at the grass a lot, apparently eating guinea pig "food" - they said it was seeds, veges and pellets (of what, I don't know) Will there be any adverse effects? (to clarify, they had put their guinea pigs away!)
-
I wouldn't put Science Diet and ProPlan in the Super Premium category, they have a lot of fillers and mediocre ingredients - the Super Premiums available here are Eagle Pack, Nutro, Natural Balance, Innova and to a lesser extent Royal Canin - Do a search in these forums for "kibble" there is A LOT of information, even just in the past 6 months...
-
But Gomez I'm sure you could have continued to use that sock!! Some people don't have the luxury to throw away items of clothing just because they've been injested by their pets  eeeeeeeeuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu!!
-
The first time we left Gomez loose he ate a sock - one of these little sneaker socks.... we didn't even know until 2 days later when all of a sudden we saw said sock being coughed up -I threw it away! Your guy must have had so much fun with the golf balls!!!

Grass Seeds

What does a grass seed look like? Anyone have a photo? -
Well, if you offer him anything covered in flavourings and rancid fat, he is bound to love it, no? Like kids, have you ever seen a kid turn town a McD meal?

Oh... I thought the legs spread and not moving bit was the "Norfolk Terrier Plant".... -
The corn and fillers in the cheap supermarket foods can be causing the irritation - mostly corn and cereal fillers can be the culprits - Check out foods such as Nutro, Eagle Pack Holistic, Natural Balance - there's not as much variety here as there is in the UK or US unfortunately, due to quarantine regulations, but those 3 are very good - Also, as mentioned above, these forums are chock full of good info...
