My dog does this at least once a week. He physically cannot stop once he gets going either, I can yell and scream, push him off the bed and kick him out of my room and all the while he is continuing his air humping until completion. Gross. Poor little guy looks just as upset as me while it's happening

I'm going to be lazy and ask here.... Snot had a compressed disc a few months back and needed spinal surgery. The vet said there is a very small percentage (like 5%) that it could happen again down the line but to a different disc. Would this be considered a pre-existing condition if it was to happen again but to a different disc, or if he had any other spinal issues in the future, does anybody know? To everybody that doesn't have pet insurance, I'd definitely recommend it. I never bothered because I was always under the impression that if something did go wrong with my dog I would always be able to scrape together some emergency monies to cover it, that's what credit cards are for! Not frickin' THOUSANDS and Thousands of dollars though! gah..

I'm in the process of trying to find a new place to live and I remember a while ago somebody had a form they had made up in which you could put a few details about your dog and attach it to the rental application? If not, I could do a quick one up myself... any tips on what to write? Should I attach a photo? ta..

He'd like that sparky! Yeah, we have a pool and he has a life jacket but when I have tried to get him to swim before he refuses to paddle! He just goes completely stiff in the water, and I have to support his whole weight so he doesn't sink :D

Thanks so much. :D He is doing ok, pretty much acting like nothing is wrong with him :D still has a bit of a wobble happening and dragging his toes ever so slightly, but he doesn't seem to be in any pain or discomfort which is good. I bought a babys play pen off ebay, but I looked at the photo and didn't read the dimensions correctly which is a pain, so it's not much bigger than his crate which is the main reason why I bought it so he could still be confined yet still have a bit of room to muck around in...oh well. But, so far so good. I'm just glad to have my Snot monster back to semi normal.

Thanks guys :D Yeah, he has been on a LOT of different drugs for pain relief. The second time it happened they had him all drugged out on methadone! My little junkie baby.. Hes also on Tramal 3 times daily, - hes going to be all sorts of strung out when those are gone

It started New Years day, I woke up and instantly knew something was wrong with him, he was sitting all funny and didn't seem *right*. I suspected a blockage, the night before he swallowed a dried lamb treat (whole ) On the way to work that morning he started randomly screaming out in pain, when I could finally get an appointment at a vet (after trying all morning to get him in somewhere!) they had to put him under anesthetic to check him out properly because every time they touched him he would let out these blood curdling screams (tearing my heart out in the process ) they took X-rays and put a tube into his stomach to check for blockages. Everything came back normal and by the time I picked him up he almost seemed better :D . They suspected a pinched nerve, sent him home with painkillers and ordered strict rest for 7 days. If it was to happen again they gave me his Xrays to take and said I would need to see a specialist. By nights end you wouldn't have thought anything had been wrong with him at all. Two days passed and he was completely normal until... he woke me up at around midnight crying softly and staggering around my room awkwardly, it took me 2 hours to finally settle him. I made an appointment with the specialist at 2pm (the first available one they had) but by 10am that morning he was just lying there, really listless, couldn't stand, wouldn't drink and was knuckling over on his paws I was crying my eyes out and ended up rushing him to the emergency vets. The specialist there checked him over and was a little baffled as to what could be wrong. I had to leave him there (which was sooo hard to do ) He has blood tests and was also tested for a suspected case of meningitis. They started treating him for meningitis on the spot but in the morning his test results came back clear. The next lot of tests he had to be put under anesthetic again (third time in one week!) and had a dye injected into his neck/spine/head area which showed up any abnormality's that the X-rays wouldn't and finally they had a diagnosis! A compressed disc in his neck... they zonked him out on painkillers and he had to stay at the vets again. I had a lengthy discussions with his vet about treatments, in 40% of cases this type of problem can actually heal by itself. The other option was expensive surgery to have the disc matter removed (on top of the few thousand it had already cost me) I decided to take him home for the weekend for a bit of TLC but unfortunately he didn't make any improvements at all... He was in an obvious amount of pain, still dragging his feet/knuckling over/falling over So on Monday morning he went back into the vets and had spinal surgery done that same afternoon.. The operation went well, I picked him up tonight and he is a much much happier dog already. The vet seems to think he will make a full recovery Strict crate rest for 6-8 weeks which is going to drive us both insane I'm sure. He was already trying to charge around the house when we got home *cringe* It's so unbelievably good to have him home again though, it has been an emotional roller coaster ride! I haven't cried so much in my life, so bloodly stressful. Big thanks for all the support, especially the Frenchie peeps and to those who left comments on my facebook. I work at a kennel, and if somebody wants to know how there dog went I can usually give them a lot more info than just "it was fine".. I personally find that a little bit slack, the same with the brushing. My boss would never let us hand back a dirty unbrushed dog she is a bit pedantic about that sort of thing... We aren't flashy expensive kennels either, quite the opposite. I think it should be included in part of the care unless your dog is a disgusting matted, filthy mess- which we still try and work with to have it going home looking and feeling a bit better. I guess it just pays to do your research, or go on recommendations.

Last week my dog cost me $2500, this week he is costing me $4000.... that's pretty out there for me. Hello bank loan.

I ran it past the dog and he said woof yes I actually replied to this thread earlier in the night but my computer must have had a spaz and hasn't posted? I always thought they were around $3000+ I hope to own a British one day and when that time comes I will definitely be sourcing out the second hand/used variety. $3000 is stupid imo.
