  1. I know - he has been soooo good He is sleeping at the moment and looks pretty peaceful Hopefully he heals fast. GG
  2. Hi Guys, Well I picked the boy up yesterday arvo and even for me it was a bit shocking He has such a huge incision, and the stiches are very tight due to the ammount of scar tissue that had to be removed. But he is very good about it, he is understandably in pain but his tail is still wagging and he is still excited about food so they are good signs I hope this is the last painful horrible thing he has to go through. GG ETA sorry for the crap picture, but you can see his tail is still wagging!
  3. Thanks guys I dropped the boy off this morning and had a quick chat to the vet. I will call at 3 just to see what is happeing with him, I will let you know. I am ataying at home with him for the rest of the week just to make sure he is ok. I am really nervous. Fingers crossed it all goes well. GG
  4. Thanks to everybody for the kind thoughts Occasionally he will have a bad day, usually after he has been particularly active the day before, and he has pain relief then but most of the time he is so tolerant of it, and me for having to do things to him all the time How can you not love this face??? GG
  5. Thanks CL. I amhoping it wil heal nicely, but if not he is still my boy, we will just have to persue other things. BB - I know I have worked as a vet nurse (about 8 years ago) in a country clinic and even we had heat pads, wich were completely safe, temprature controlled etc..... I boggles the mind to think how it happened in a well equiped modern clinic. CG in places it is very lumpy and it is quite tickened, because of where it is (on his RHS flank) and how brittle and dry the scar tissue is, it affects his extension and is uncomfortable for him. It is also very pink so would be a concern in the sun. This pic gives and indication of what size it is now..... It was massive before
  6. Of course CL what other breed would it be? I remember you telling me about that befor I think...... sorry you have been through something like this too. Just out of interest was she a show dog? Did she ever go back in the ring? Thanks for your kind thoughts, I am hoping after surgery it will be hardly noticable, but a judge probably would be able to feel it if they go over him thoroughly. But there is not much I can do if that is the case, I am hoping that, as you said, the coat will cover as much as possible. Canibalgoldfish - I am sorry to hear that you have been through a similar thing Beau's burn was the size of a football, very big, third degree, it has shrunken now to just bigger than the palm of my hand, but the scarring will only contract so far. The surgery will remove the thickened scarring and the damaged skin, they will take it out in the shape of an almond and suture it up so he will then have a long, thin (hopefully invisible) scar rather than a large, brittle, dry, hairless uncomfortable mess. Believe me I would not be putting him through anything more if it was not in his best interests! GG
  7. Thanks GL he will need a lot of healing vibes this time next week. CL, I have really tried to be level headed about this, but it has not been easy, I know they are trying their best to rectify the problem and that is all I can hope for at the moment, I just want him to be well so he can swim and lay down more comfortably It has been hard, but I am lucky he is such a good stoic boy. I am keeping up my involvment with the show world by showing a couple of dogs for others, but it is not the same as seeing my boy in the ring. This is a photo of him today (the dodgy non dog minded photographer is OH so excuse the crap pic ) He is standing on a slope too so that doesn't help. lol GG
  8. Hi everyone, Well I have an update for you. Beau is going in for surgery on Tuesday the 11th. I am very nervous about it, I know he is in good hands with the head vet but it still worries me. This is what it looks like now and I will post some pictures after surgery next week. The scar is quite thickened and not much hair is growning back. It is such a slow process. Sigh I am hoping that he will look like new again in about 5 months. Thanks to all those who have been asking about him GG
  9. He has been on antibiotics (Clavulox and now Amoxil) Rymadyl for pain and Silvazine cream twice a day. We were at Frankston pets day out today and it was the first time we have had problems with flies, so I guess now the weather is heating up that is something we will have to deal with too. InspectorRex, that is horrible! It is a tough situation to be in when something goes so wrong isn't it? The VC is covering all costs relating to Beau's injury, and that will include surgery eventually. DOG I hope that goes smoothly!
  10. I am not sure Nekhbet, I guess it will depend on how bad the scaring is after surgery. I am keeping my fingers crossed. The only good thing is that it is his off show side I guess, so we may get away with it.
  11. Thanks everybody, He is taking his time to heal that is for sure, lucky he is so good natured and just lets me do whatever I have to to make him better For those who missed the original post, Beau went to the vet to have his hips x-rayed for scoring (use of GA is required because of the way the x-rays need to be taken) and they put a hot water botle in with him while he was still anethitised to keep him warm. I have worked as a vet nurse and evenin country practices hot water bottles are pretty outdated. I am happy to say they now have heating pads at this vet. Ill PM you Paganman and BDL. Mind you the principal vet has been fantastic with the after care, I just refuse to see anyone else at the practice. GG
  12. Hi Everyone, I just thought I would start a post to update Beau's progress. Some of you might remember my posts about how this happened, for this who don't here is a quick run down: Beau is a show dog, we sent him to a vet to have X-rays taken of his hips for scoring. A couple of days later he came up in a strange spot on his flank, it was very sore, raw flesh, skin missing - all in all very nasty. After 3 weeks the cet clinic admitted fault, (it turns out he was burnt by a hot water bottle filled with boiling water) they refunded our money and will continue to treat Beau until he is healed. The principal vet has been great, she has been doing exactly what we require and has been checking on Beau regularly. I am waiting to see how the burn will heal, obviously he is out of the ring ATM, and we don't know if he will make it back in, but we are hopeful that he will. In a couple of months he will probably have surgery to excise the scar tissue and hopefuly minamise the scaring. Ill post pics every week to show the progress for those who are interested. He is coping very well, he is now off his pain meds, and is almost done with his antibiotics, so we will see how he goes from now on, ill be keeping a close eye on it to make sure it doesn't turn nasty. Pics show the worst day to tonight.
  13. Yep! That sounds like him! Sigh..... i am making some phonecalls today so hopefully we can have it sorted ASAP. He is stating a fact to the other dog - "giving him "the finger" ,if you like".... this is MINE !!! OOps
  14. Great! Ernie just cocked his leg inside - on the corner of our bed
  15. Thanks Ruski and cosmolo, I will do just that. I want to stop this right here and now before we have any more issues. Cosmolo I think you are right, it seems to have initially been the bone and has continued from there. ATM they are both clamly sitting beside me - i need to restore that peace! Thanks, GG
  16. Yesterday evening Beau and Ernie got in a fight. I was inside, OH was out, I heard the initial grumblings and - silly me - thought OH would be able to put an end to it. It quickly escalated to a very aggressive fight. OH grabbed Beau and I grabbed Ernie. I didn't realise at the time but Ernie got a small cut on his ear We tried having them both inside, but Ernie was straight up in Beau's face and it was on again. We separated them for the night and most of today. Ernie has been very clingy, and Beau has been his usual self, but getting in between me and Ernie when he can. Talking to OH after the first episode, there was a bone involved. (I took this away the first time) now it seems the can't be near each other. I have only just let them both inside, and they have had a grumble at each other, but I was there so it didn't go any further. My questions are - 1. What has changed in the last couple of days? 2. What can I do to control this situation? (all bones are removed from the yard and they won't be together unsupervised) 3. What do you think is going on? I believe it is Beau asserting his authority over Ernie, from what I saw Enie was the initiatior of both fights, maybe he put out now Beau is maturing? Details - Beau 13 month old GR - entire show dog Ernie 5yo terrier x - desexed at 12 months Gypsie 4.5yo Cavalier (spoilt brat - wasn't involved as such but was stirred up by the whole thing.) OH - passive with the dogs, probably under most of them in the pack  me - I try to be the leader, I have never had an issue like this before. I have done lots of reading and heard some interesting opinions (professional and otherwise) on the subject, but I am not sure what to believe/take on board. GG
