mmmmmmm possibly? You mean the man or the dog? It was a while ago - my memory isn't the best
-
hmmmmm yes I think he was a red with a black nose and Mojo rings a bell, very nice owner/handler, maybe Paul? I know he gave me his card, but I handed it onto my replacement when I left work. Damn - should have kept it in case OH goes missing while 4WDriving Anyway he was gorgeous - I loooove the black and tan's though ;) beautiful!

Hi HH, The dogs I met were at the PIAA Trade expo, they were stunning I would love to come and see your dogs work one day, and I would love to come along to see your new bitch at a show! That is great that you are bringing in some new bloodlines, how exciting! I will send you a PM in the new year to organise something oh yay I'm so excited! We are living in suburbia ATM (and OH thinks we have reached our dog limit ) but when we move back to property I would deffinetly think about a Bloodhound. I'm just not sure I could give the right home, ill reserve my judgement till I meet more GG
-
Oh I really thought you were going to say they need massive, massive amounts! I guess it is like any breed, they vary from individual to individual. I love my dogs to be with me all the time, I am at home with our son and any work plans for the future will be from home, I love having my doggies with me. I love Beau to bits, he is amazing but I have always liked dogs that are a little more aloof with strangers. hmmmm very interesting :D Thanks for answering all my questions centitout - have a merry christmas!
-
ahhh yes I imagine boys would be very hard to destract from a nice smelling girl with their noses! They are fantastic dogs, hopefully I can will find myself in Young so I can visit one day! It is such a pitty that their aren't more Bloodhounds around, although I guess they aren't a dog that everyone could care for correctly so it might be good that they aren't so common. What do you do with your dogs excercise wise on a daily basis? (I guess thay are working a lot of the time so lots of manual stimulation too...) How do they go in pet homes? (as in what is required physically and mentally...much more than a Goldie?) I hope you don't mind me asking all these questions... i'm a bit in love
-
These dogs are amazing! I have always admired them, I met a couple at the per industry expo in Sydney and I was in love It is such a pitty the emergency services are blind to their talents - they are missing out! Are there any in NSW I can see out and about? I see the gorgeous Demon lives here, is he often at shows?

Burn Or Reaction To Injection?
~JessyBee~ replied to moosepup's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Glad he liked it moosepup! Mine love it, and since they get plain meat and a little dry, it gives them the extras they need - Mine love it too He looks so cosy in his bed at work! What a brave boy. GG -
Burn Or Reaction To Injection?
~JessyBee~ replied to moosepup's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
So glad you have a vet you feel comfortable with moosepup! Just because of his age I would look into the health booster - it should help him out a bit - most of his energy will go towards healing for a while but since he is on a good diet anyway he should be fine. If you feel uncomfortable about approaching the vets about compensation (in the form of treatment) perhaps you could write them a letter? If you are like me you probably get flustered when you are upset about something - I tend to forget the important bits! LOL At least in a letter you can write it all down. Explain that you have seen Dr X and he advises X treatment plan. Even if they are just providing things like medication (AB's and cream) for now, let them know that if he requires surgery later on (hopefully not) that they will be responsible for any costs. It won't hurt, all they can say is no, but to me they have admitted guilt when they started treating it as a burn. If you can include a report from the new vet that states he believes it is from a HWB that would be good. Make it clear that your boy had no contact with any other heat source and due to the time frame it would indicate that the burn was inflicted during his dental treatment at the clinic. Anyway, it muct be a lot off your mind now, keep in contact with the vet and I would keep taking pictures daily (if you write a letter include these with it...) to keep track of how it is healing. Let us know how it goes GG -
Burn Or Reaction To Injection?
~JessyBee~ replied to moosepup's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I'm sorry Moosepup - I didn't mean to scare you I definitely think you need to get a second opinion from a specialits - I would ask them to write a letter to the principal vet at the practice where this happened. No vet likes to look bad in the eyes of his/her peers, and I dare say it will kick them into action! Unfortunatley that is what we had to resort to in the end to get answers from the clinic. Mind you when the principal vet came back (she was O/S when Beau's injury happened) it was all sorted very quickly and professionally and she made it clear that it was unacceptable and she was furious with her staff for letting it get out of hand. Looking at the pic, it looks exactly like Beau's burn Mind you I still think it looks healthy and how it should at this stage. The top section looks great - considering All that scab will come off and it will be pink raw flesh. I would just keep my eye on the bottom left of the wound, it looks like it may progress a bit further down, it looks a bit green but it could just be a shadow. Not much you can do about the puss, just be thankful it doesn't stink! Is he on AB's? Personal choice of course but it may be a good idea. I would also be making sure he is on great food and maybe look at using something like Dr Bruce's Health Booster. He is going to be putting a lot of energy into healing himself. How old is he Moosepup? Looking at how big the area is, I don't know if it will need surgery, a specialist should be able to tell you. Beau's started off the size of a football and shrunk to about the size of my hand, plus a bit extra, by the time he had surgery. I don't think it has to be dressed, Beau's healed faster after we stopped dressing. As long as he isn't licking excessively I wouldn't worry. Hopefully your boss lets you bring him to work so you can keep your eye on him I took Beau to work a fair bit, but it was hard on him getting in and out of the car - you can lift your boy, so it shouldn't be a problem. Remember this isn't your fault! I know how you are feeling right now, but he will get better and he still loves you! :hugs: GG -
Burn Or Reaction To Injection?
~JessyBee~ replied to moosepup's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Hi Moosepup - sorry I haven't checked on this thred for a while. Your poor little fella I was thinking after the second pic you posted that there looked like there was a fair bit of necrotic tissue there - it is worse than I expected! And in answer to your question - yes Beau's bur did get much worse before it started to get better. Has the vet told you what to expect from now? In my experience, all that dry scabby skin needs to slough off before the tissue will start to granulate and heal, because it is not scabs as such, but dead skin. At this stage Beau started to get a fair bit of puss under the necrotic skin, but it didn't smell thank goodness! So son't be freaked out if all that dead skin comes off, it needs to if it is a burn. I know you said the vet is not charging you for the weekly consults, what about meds and dressings (if any?) If that is a full thickness burn it will leave a large scar - have you talked to the vet about having surgery later on? It may be best sonsidering the placment of the injury, scar tissue is quite fragile and I would worry about him being in the sun with a huge area of scar tissue on his back. It may also end up quite thickened, I dodn't know if this will hamper him movement at all considering it is near his spine. It may be worthwhile asking about that too Hope you are both coping OK. :hugs: GG -
Burn Or Reaction To Injection?

I know exactly how you feel Hopefully Beau's story helped your little man from suffering as much as he may have otherwise. I am sure he will be fine, he looks like a pretty tough little guy. Let us know what happens. GG -
Burn Or Reaction To Injection?
~JessyBee~ replied to moosepup's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Hi Moosepup, Sorry to hear about your little boy Hopefully it starts to improve soon. The time frame seems similar to when it happened to us - at least if it is a burn they are treating it as such. I would just be looking out for any necrotic skin around the site, if it is a burn this will indicate how big it actually is, hard to see if there is any around the raw area from the photo. I agree that hot water bottles shouldn't be used for every patient. I have worked in lots of vet clinics and even 10 years ago the vets I worked for wouldn't use them for 'everyday' patients. We only used them for newly delivered puppies. I believe heating pads are far more reliable and safe. Keep us updated. -
We just replaced our old pump with a brand new Davey. The pump cost us $360 and OH is installing it himself. The biggest issue we have had is with a suction leak (i.e air - not water...) I have been telling OH that is probably what it was..... didn't listen to me until he exhausted all other possibilities! He should know by now I am always right!

Thanks for the good wishes guys, He is almost back to his old self now, I am thinking about taking him to a couple of members comps before I enter him in any shows, just to see if judges notice his scar and get him back into the swing of things GG

Can I get those juices at health food shops wolfgirl?
-
Thanks guys Taters - I might try fish oil capsules and see how he goes on them. AF - he is fine with rice it just seems to be corn and wheat that give the biggest reactions. Setterlvr - You are right about the diet - I just feel that at the moment I need to find something extra good to support his system, since he invested so much in getting better. I have to keep in mind also that he is an outcross, so will take loger to mature than some line bred dogs, the litter after him are about 6 months younger but look more 'finished' if that makes sense? We will keep plodding along, hopefully one day he will be back to his lovely looking self. GG
-
hmmm thanks laffi, I think I will try the Artemis next. I remember being told it was good, might have to do some research. He was having VAN omega blend oil, but it started to reallly upset his tummy (lots of gas and yucky loose poos) so he is off that for now. GG

Hi Guys, Well after being internet-less for the last month we are finally back on! YAY! We moved just befor Christmas so sorry for the lack of updates. Beau is doing well, his hair is starting to grow back wher it was clipped (not helped by the dodgy clipping job BTW! ) He has a large, dark scar and still some puckering at one end, I am hoping it will smooth out as time goes on. Here is a pic from today, he is happy and pretty healthy. He is getting fitter again after not being able to do anything for quite a while. I was feeding him Orijen, but since the cat food thing have switched back to EP, but really I am not that happy with it. I have heard Artemis is quite good, I really want something that will promote healthy coat growth, as his injury really took its toll on his coat also I don't think he is as mature as he should be at this stage. I am hoping a good quality food will help him out a bit. GG
-
Thanks guys I am really happy with how he is doing so far Ill switch him back to Orijen this week and hopefully the itchyness stops! GG
-
It looks a million times better doesn't it?! I am so relieved that it seems to be healing well, he has a little bit of fluid in one spot, but nothing too worrying. He was on Orijen which was FANTASTIC, but I was running out and couldn't get to my source so I switched him to EP and he has been itchy he does best on the Orijen with no grains at all.
-
Hi Guys, I thought it was about time I posted an update on Beau. I am pleased to say that he is doing really, really well He is healing nicely and his stiches will come out on Tuesday then it is just a waiting game to see how his coat grows back and how he heals. In the meantime I am doing what I can to keep him quiet and keep all four paws on the ground for most of the day LOL The poor baby, he has been through so much and is so brave ;) I'm kicking myself at the moment for changing his food just before the op as he is really itchy again  note to self: Find something good and stick with it! Here are a couple of pics from today. GG ETA helps is I add the pics

Thanks FTPO, I know you have gone through heaps with Benson and I commend you for that. thanks for the support GG
-
GG the way I look at it at least you want for your dog! Too many are left in backyards to rot, never played with, walked or cared for. See Beau is lucky IMO as he has an owner who wants to show him off and groom him and train him and loves him so incredibly. However the neglect of another has made you doubt yourself when you should actually be patting yourself on the back for being a fantastic pet owner! OK!!! Thanks FTPO. I really do try to do the best by them, it is so hard when things like this happen. Sigh SLLH, I would love for Beau to be able to prove himself in the ring before (and if) he sires a litter. However we may end up focusing on obedience or something rather than conformations showing if the scar is bad. oh the poor fella, bless him with his big smile & waggy tail. sorry I missed your first thread, wow, I'm stunned at what happened to your boy. You are not to blame, in any way shape or form!!! After all of this, burns, surgery etc, how did his hips come back ummm.... LMWS, not terrible but not great either. I have since found out a few things that make me want to get them done again, (different vet) wich I will once this crap is all over and done with! BMP, yes the wound was not given ANY sort of treatment initially (i.e. the first 4 days) and then correct treatment was not administered for 3 weeks, so aside from the glaringly obvious fact that he was in pain from the day it happened, the wound was not treated properly from the onset. If they had admitted it was a burn we could have started correct antibiotics, clipped him and gotten it under better control. From what I have worked out - the head vet was away at the time this happened and the staff tried to cover up their stuff up.
-
Thanks FTPO, but I just look at him and think I did this all because I wanted him to bein the show ring and hopefully be able to sire a litter sigh.
-
I totally agree, it's huge but I think it gives him the best chance Yes you guys are right but you know I still blame myself for this We hope so TB, the scar was still very painful for him because of where it was on his flank whenever he extended it 'streched' the scar and it sometimes tore a bit so in the long run this wil be better. I hope
