  1. I only use C3 for 2nd shot, and if you give Protech brand 2 shots is all you need, if you use Canvac it requires 3 shots. If you vaccinate too early, (it wont have worked on a young immune system or a pup still feeding on its mother) so you will have to give 3 shots as the first one would have been a waste of time & money (donation to the Vet LOL)
  2. I only ever give C3 to babies.......and their first shot is as late as possible ie 2 weeks after they have been completely weaned from their mother, or 10 weeks of age, giving it at 6 weeks doesnt work
  3. Incontinence can happen at any age, but is linked usually to early age desexing. One of my oldies now past 12, started leaking at about age 6, and she went on a drug (whose name escapes me ) for a short while & she was cured. I doubt she would be doing it for being lazy, there would be a reason for it. If this has just suddenly started there may be a kidney infection or hormonal like I described above.
  4. The trouble is no one ever seems to make formal complaints, so many of these ones remain incompetant. We have one up here who I have to wonder how he remains in business, as so many mis diagnoses are done, and just tells people ridiculous things all the time. The last incident was when I started to groom one of my clients, and noticed she was in pain, to the point of biting which wasnt normal behaviour for her, I looked under her tail to find her anal glands were in trouble. Obvious pain, red & sore with an ulcer to the side..........The woman took her straigth to this Vet on a Friday arvo of a long weekend, and was told that "I" was wrong, there was nothing wrong with the anal glands, and to take her home & put aloe vera on it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Of course, I then had a phone call the dog was vomiting etc, I told them to go to my Vet on a SUNDAY, out of hours on a long weekend, and one of my Vets diagnosed what I had! This person has 5 animals, and the imcompetant Vet who obviously had plans for the weekend, has lost those 5 animals, but the owner never confronted this Vet, so of course he will only presume he was right & aloe vera fixed it.............I know many people get bamboozled with jargon, and dont feel they can question a Vet, I think putting it in writing is better than trying to talk to them .........I told this woman not to pay the first bill or demand the money back as due to his misdiagnosis it cost her alot more going to another Vet out of hours!!!! But no she didnt feel confident enough so let it go.............. There are always diarrohea bugs at this time of year!
  5. I have been to the site, but I dont see it anywhere
  6. You have right for concern, as this drug can be nasty! Any person/dog can have bad reactions to drugs at any time, this one i think is more long term use which can result in death. Hopefully he is just tired after his ordeal & break in routine
  7. You may have pinched the inside of her ear at some stage, and now she has a phobia about it. By pinning her down & making a big issue out of it, is making things worse for her as you are reinforcing to her that she should be worried, if you know what I mean. I would be fiddling with her ears all the time, rub them & scratch them , stick your finger inside & rub them, anything that she likes, most dogs like their ears being rubbed. Praise her and give her a treat, make a big deal of it when she allows you to play with her ears. Eventually you might pluck a few hairs & then treat her & praise her & set her free, so that you ended on your terms & not hers. If you try to do it all at one time it will become an ordeal & she will win!
  8. Alot of breeders use these self administering Parvac shots. They believe that Parvo vaccine doesnt last for 8-10 years in the dogs system like Distemper, hepatitis, etc does......... People who Titer test do it so as to give only a distemper shot if the titers showed low levels of Distemper, or Parvo if low levels of parvo shows up, or Hep if low levels of hep shows up etc etc.....They Titer so as to not innundate the dogs immune system with unneccesary cocktail of vaccine that can & does cause disease & disorders due to being given annually unneccessarily.
  9. Yes I used to clip a Rotti (German lines) years ago, he was absolutely massive, and had a huge thick coat & curls on his ears etc..........very different style & type to what I have seen bred here in general.
  10. Silly idea! I am sure they will find someone to do it though Clipping his coat , who knows how it will grow back, he will look stupid too. Dogs cool themselves from underneath, thats why they lie on cool tiles etc in summer.
  11. Yes it is common, the vaccine is only doing one strain, and there are many strains of it. I have only ever known vaccinated dogs to get it LOL..........I dont bother with the vaccine, I would rather my dogs got it & got over it, like we get over a Flu......Cough syrup is the treatment. If they go off their food, make some chicken soup & let them lap it.
  12. ;) At what age do most puppies start to cock their legs? Mine are just over 7 months and still girly squat? It varies, but teh youngest I get start at 10 weeks of age!
  13. Yes he needs to be done, and it can sometimes cost more than a normal male due to extra searching for the retained one. The retained one can turn cancerous if left like it is.
  14. From what I observe, BARF fed pups grow normally, and commercially fed pups grow artificially, which likely is too fast!
  15. Dogs are carnivores, so these starchy foods are not what they are designed to eat. If he eats chicken, why not give him raw chicken carcasses/wings/necks etc........
  16. GRAINS & CEREALS can cause skin & ear problems. Take a look at the products you are using & see what they contain, most processed foods have various grains & cereals, like pasta, rice, wheat, plus colours & preservatives which also will do it!!
  17. Advantage (fleas only) Advantix, does not do heartworm, repels mosquitos, but doe not do heartworm as such. Every client I have on Frontline always have fleas!
  18. Any monthly tablet that does heartworm ONLY (none of the combined products ), is good for 6 weeks, it is cheap & effective. Proheart 6 (6 monthly) injection was removed from use in USA , Canada & parts of Europe , due to adverse reactions, seizures- death......... Australia has Proheart 12 (12 monthly ) which is THREE times the dose of the banned product. The manufacturers instructions for the product state that it is a drug to be given when no other method can be administered...ie as a last resort..........yet our Vets give it routinely
  19. I have only known 2 dogs to get bloat. A Rotti that it happened too at the beach while he had been swimming, and gulping salt water. A Curly coated Retriever after eating ice.......
  20. Yes I get this all the time, for years & years now........... Being in a small Village it is really hard, as I might be in one of the shops after hours, and I get people see me so decide they might get their dog done. I dont have my appointment book strapped to my body, so how would i know if I can or cant do the dog & when at what time etc when I am in the middle of buying groceries..........It really does get annoying, as people treat you as if you are "open all hours". I am sure people think that if my car is in the driveway then I am available! They turn up right when I am feeding 12 dogs with chicken mince up to my elbows, set all the dogs off barking, and they dont see it that they have inconvenienced me at all.......... I am home today as I am getting all my dogs ready for an interstate show, by 9.30am I have already had 2 people drop by
  21. No it has to be ESTER C Just out of curiosity, do these tablets only work with injured dogs or can they work on young dogs who were born a little east west? Good diet, calcium & Ester C will help with all joints. Ester C is recommended for growing pups. There have been studies to prove the positive effects of Ester C on dogs prone to, or already diagnosed with Hip dysplasia. According to Pat Hastings "Puppy Puzzle" east west is usually a dietary problem, but of course it can also be hereditary too.
  22. Cinnamon Leaf essential oil is briliant......Chemically ,Advantix is the only product that claims to deter mozzies.
  23. For Mozzies Cinamon Leaf oil is brilliant Fleas - Pennyroyal Neem oil does a variety of bugs too Here is a Natural Non-Toxic Bug Spray Ingredients: 3 ounces distilled water 1 ounce witch hazel (the alcohol) 6 drops lavender essential oil 3 drops tea tree essential oil 3 drops citronella essential oil Place essential oils together in a glass spray bottle. Shake well. To really "marry" the aromas, allow the oils to sit together in the bottle for a week. Add the distilled water and witch hazel. Shake to ensure the oils are fully incorporated. To use, spray in and around areas where you want to repell bugs and inscects. Do not spray around the face and avoid eyes completely. For those holistic followers the following recipes can be wonderful remedies. Since they are all natural, they will only help repel fleas, ticks and flies etc. and must be applied more frequently as well. Herbal Critter Repellent Mix: Dried peppermint, eucalyptus, bay leaf herbs, marjoram, eucalyptus, rosemary, sage, clove buds. Crush your botanicals well and fill a muslin bag or use it in the cedar chip mixture of your dogs bed. The muslin bags can be placed near your dogs bedding area. Tick Spritzer Blend: 2 drops of Lavender, Basil, Lemon, Opoponax, Eucalyptus 1 tea spoon apple cider vinegar 1 tea spoon vodka 1 cup of dried marjoram, eucalyptus, rosemary 2 cups of water Flea Spritzer Blend: 2 drops of cedarwood, lemongrass, rose geranium 1 tea spoon apple cider vinegar 1 tea spoon vodka 1 cup of dried peppermint, eucalyptus, bay leaf herbs 1- 2 cups of water
