Please ensure this adverse reaction is reported, as they never are, and so people happily continue jabbing their pets not knowing the dangers...... Proheart is not supposed to be given routinely to dogs , and it is not meant to be given at the same time as other shots. Vets continually ignore warnings, and then ignore the adverse reactions too! They cant have it both ways IMO....... The Australian Proheart shot is THREE times the dosage of the 6 monthly Proheart that was being used overseas. This product was removed from use due to too many adverse reactions, seizures, deaths etc, yet we give THREE times the dose to our Australian animals You can read about Vaccinations & Heartworm shots on a page on my website if you like, there is a letter from the manufacturer of Proheart 12 on there "Wyeth", and it clearly states the product is not to be used routinely only when no other form of heartworm can be administered, as I said Vets here ignore it......... You could have him looked at for Tonsillitis, dogs will be starving, tummy rumbling but wont eat due to sore throat........ If tonsils/other throat or teeth/mouth problem isnt the problem , then Periactin tablets from over the counter at the Chemist will probably work. It is a trick many breeders use for those fussy ones. Completely safe to use, can not overdose the dog, they are antihistimes, with the side affect in dogs being increased hunger! He would need 1-2 tablets at least 30 minutes before a meal, a couple of days should have him eating, if not I would say he has a problem of a more serious kind . Once he has the habit of eating again you can stop the tablets, you wont need them again hopefully.........

Sardines Should I Get Spring Water Or Oil
Cavandra replied to chloebear's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I use sardines in vegetable oil usually, cheap homebrand ones. I drain them off also. Soy oil can cause allergies. Seawall brand Mackeral was great in a large can 425g, packed full of fish, great value, but they have dissappreaed from the shelf at my BiLo now -
Whats The Shortest Clip You Have Done
Cavandra replied to charlie mouse's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
The dogs needs coat, a 10 is already very short for a Maltese. Are they not worried about sunburn, skin cancer, and a lack of a barrier against contact allergies, biting insects etc? -
People swear by different things. Listerine Mouth wash followed by Curash baby powder....Apple cider Vinegar & Zinc powder as mentioned
-
If it is a problem like I explained (which is sounds liek it is since he plays so rough etc) you will need a muscle guy, I find Greyhound blokes the best .......If you can find someone all the Trainers take their Greys too that is your man!

Teething Question Baby Tooth Still There
Cavandra replied to MonSqueek's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Just when you think it is never going to come out, it usually does .........I wouldnt worry about it, given him raw chicken wings & things to make him use his teeth, if it hasnt come out by desexing time have it removed then. -
Clippiing A 7 Year Old Retreiver
Cavandra replied to doggywoof's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
No dont clip her! -
I have seen this in a young pup before. A Greyhound guy explained that the dog must have jumped/fell off something & landed doing the "splits", the pup had his muscles/ligaments around the hips all wrong due to this happening, and they all needed to be manipulated & put back where they should be. The greyhound bloke said the dog would have been increasingly poor in the back end if left at crucial growth stage, and could have been permanently damaged..........

Barf Diet And New Puppie Owners
Cavandra replied to Russkie30's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
As much as I hate to admit it, I also dont BARF feed all my litters, as the majority are going to non Barf type homes, realistically if i have a litter of 10 only a couple will be Barf fed, so why bother traumatising the majority of the litter having to switch......I just find it easier to switch my own pups I am running on rather than the other way round If I have a small litter or know where the pups are going, I feed Barf, but otherwise I find it easier to wean my own onto barf rather than the pets switching to commercial........ I encourage alot of raw food with the commercial foods, and refer them to websites & books & to not hesitate to contact me if they have an interest is trying a raw diet in time etc, I get a few that do want to do it, and I get a few later in the dogs life that get back in touch about various issues or allergies, and they see for themselves how the diet fixes the problem then, I find you cant convert those who dont want to know about it themselves......... -
I agree, I would be seeing a Holistic Vet, and detoxing both dogs etc. Kelp & Apple Cider Vinegar together do boost the glandular/immune system also
-
Could also be VACCINOSIS............that would have any Vet stumped LOL..........if they both have unnecessary annual vaccines they are completely overdosed & reacting to it...............That is the easy & most common solution to most disorders in dogs!
-
Straight up without thinking Thyroid/tonsillistis Thinking, muscle wasting such as face Masseters Muscle Myosis (auto immune disorder, many cases due to feeding ethoxyquin used as a preservative, but also used to make RUBBER (usually in Eukanuba) Just quick ones off the top of my head!

If you use Vit C for joints it has to be ESTER C.........which is completely different to plain old Vit C which does nothing .........ESTER C is far more expensive, but it works! -
'lump' Appears After Annual Shots
Cavandra replied to pawsaroundoz's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Yes I have had this a couple of times over the years when I used to give C5's.........very nasty reaction, and hardly something to fob off....such lumps in cats after injection often lead to sarcoma, and hence the reason many Cats are injected in the legs these days in teh USA, so that the leg can be amputated if need be. Mine took weeks to disappear Your dog has experienced an adverse reaction, and it needs to be reported via the correct channels, and not excused as "normal" by Vets.........All these things are never reported and that is why Australia is still in the dark ages giving unneccessary annual shots to every animal they can get their hands on, despite all the experts, and studies that show just how harmful they are! -
Do You Add Any Supplements To Their Dry?
Cavandra replied to Norskgra's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
It is actually not a good idea to feed cat food to a dog, they are nothing alike in their requirements. You can give it as a treat, but not as a diet. If he gets constipated then the diet doesnt suit him. His dandruff sounds like a reaction to diet, preservatives, colours, cereals??????????? Dogs dont eat grains & cereals in the wild in general, they do scavenge & eat most things but it is few & far between they are carnivores plain & simple, no matter how much we humanise them they are canines & are carnivores ...........usually skin is the sign of diet problems. I just read in a previous post of soya oil being used, which is also not a good idea for dogs.......I have an article somewhere about Soy products and dogs, cant find it right now though, but not good, usually causes allergies actually :D -
Do You Add Any Supplements To Their Dry?
Cavandra replied to Norskgra's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
It really does depend on what exactly the supplement is for...........I use supplements for varying reasons, but mind you I dont feed commercial dog food at all......... I use Ester C , Vit E, Tumeric, Fish oil, Salmon oil, Folic acid, Zinc, Evening Primrose, flax seed oil, Kelp, apple cider vinegar, Coenzyme Q10, garlic, brewers yeast, Vit C,cod liver oil, cranberry tablets, calcium, phosphorous, I have homeopathic treatments on hand too, and so it goes on, I am bound to have forgotten something LOL Each supplement is for something specific at the time, I rarely go to a Vet as most things can be treated at home. Cranberry for a kidney infection, zinc, EPO & Fish oil for a grass allergy, Coenzyme Q10 for a heart condition at the time....growing pups & juveniles get Ester C to prevent dysplasia etc etc etc.......... Mine get nothing on a daily basis, as every vit & mineral is in bone marrow of a raw bone, or an egg yolk etc...... I would almost consider it dangerous to supplement regularly any dog on a commercial diet, as they all claim to have a balanced meal in every scoop already, and dogs arent meant to eat a balanced meal every day as it is let alone supplementing every day on top........ JMO -
"Canine Allwormers" do Tapeworm as well as the rest. I buy them for about $1.50 a tablet from my supplier.
-
I have been using "Canine Allwormers" for many years now, they are affordable, and effective.
-
I would suggest taking him to a Greyhound bloke to give him the once over & put everything where it is meant to be so the pup can grow normally. He only needs one muscle damaged & it can change the way he grows forever.

I have found a link finally, (I knew I had it somewhere!) This website has the epileptic diet that has been devised by Dr Jean Dodds ....... Dr Jean Dodds diet recomended for epileptic dogs
-
Can you link them to a chemical reaction like Frontline, Advantix, heart worm medication, changing flea/tick collars etc being 4-6 weekly seems highly likely. Does he get the annual heartworm shot? This drug is linked to seizures & that is one of the main reasons it was withdrawn from the market in USA & other Countries. I do know of over vaccinated/annual heartworm dogs that are now seizure free through detoxing etc using Homeopathics.

I think many dont actually care about animals they just got the marks at school & thought "I may as well" LOL..........You might think that crazy, but I have a friend who never even owned a pet in his life become a Vet, & doesnt have any natural ability with animals at all.... I have a Vet at where I go that isnt a dog lover, but pretends, but good at surgery, crap at consults..........Not all of them became Vets because they love animals, quite sure there are many Doctors that did it because it was expected of them & are no good with people, Lawyers who couldnt care less etc, just because they did the study doesnt mean they are naturals & love their job or have a clue JMO........
