  1. With Alazin (sp?) it is something like 40-45 days. 2 injections I think 1 day apart........
  2. There is alot of dogs diagnosed these days, and it is often a direct result of Vaccinosis. No vaccine, & a natural diet often helps, and particulalry apple cider vinegar & Kelp regularly.
  3. Yes, and they were going to take it off the market due to so many adverse reactions , mainly DEATH......
  4. Unfortunatly slippery floors like floor boards are a very bad environment for dogs to grow up on, patella & hip probs are usually seen from this environment Often these ops dont work, and if she is going to come back to slippery floors then it is likely she will do more damage eventually. I would advise her to be crate rested & toileted by lead only, no free roaming, they can mend, but with these floors it will happen again to her and no operation will stop her from injuring herself Im afraid. Many Vets jump at ops, as they are trained surgeons, not always the best option though! She should be crate rested & toileted on lead for a couple of weeks, maybe some pain relief/anti inflammatory given too, once mended as I said it will keep happeneing on these floors, having surgery like this & bringing her back to slippery floors it is likely the surgery wont work anyway.
  5. Why do you think Metacam did it? It is Rimadyl that kills dogs usually!!!!
  6. I think you must be talking of the annual Heartworm injection Proheart 12................If so , I would NOT give it under any circumstances (seizures/death are 2 things that can happen), especially to a dog of the size you are talking of......
  7. constipation is common in bottle fed pups. Get a thermometer, lubricate the end & insert into the anus. Or put some olive oil in a dropper & gently insert into the anus & squeeze the oil in, then stimulate the tummy by massaging. Dont stop til you get a result.
  8. What age was the first one given? If it was too young ie 6 weeks that is the reason the level is low, as in theory he has only had one vaccination so far the first one has been "balanced out" but mothers immunity, so wont have done anything. I would have thought 7 days a bit quick to be doing a Titer also........ With this being said the 16 week shot & then testing a couple of weeks later should show you his correct levels. When in doubt contact Dr Jean Dodds in USA lots of peopel email her or send her their Titer blood from Australia.
  9. Sounds like it is Vaccine induced, usually within 4 weeks of Vaccine, and usually the Distemper component being the issue.
  10. If your pup hasnt been reared on bones, I would take it easy to begin with. I would start with chunky raw chicken mince , cut up necks in sizes where if she swallows whole it wont choke her, once you see she is chewing properly & making effort & not gulping you can start on bigger bones like wings & full chicken necks. Turkey necks are no good as they are too big, and is more than she would eat in 1-2 days. Also most Cavaliers wont eat anything still cold from the fridge, they like it room temp, so I would be surprised if she would try frozen bones as suggested above, a great idea for larger breeds though I expect. I mainly use necks & wing tips, tips are very soft & they love them. You can buy alot of wings cut the tips off & freeze the rest for when she is older.
  11. It is a dangerous product, causing various issues, including seizures & death. The manufacturer acknowledges this, and it was never designed to be given routinely like it is being given here in Australia. It was always ONLY for dire circumstances where a dog/owner can not administer the medication any other way. Our product here is a 12 month dose, yet USA, Canada, were using Proheart6 which was 6 monthly injection, that product was taken from the market due to adverse side effects, yet here in Australia our Vets continue to use it, and our product is THREE times the dosage (not twice, but THREE) of their product Many dogs have symptoms caused by this product, but Vets & owners are not putting two & two together, symptoms could show up 3 months after the shot for example.........also some dogs appear to have no symptoms for years of having this shot until suddenly one year they start having seizures ........again Vets/owners dont associate the vaccine with the disorder or death.
  12. I would be suggesting to the Vet who did the op that $$$ wont be an issue as it will be THEM who will be paying for any further treatment she requires at whatever specialist/chiro etc you decide to take her to to fix the mess they caused..........
  13. Your pup doesnt need worming again til 12 weeks. Should have been done at 8 weeks last time. (2,4,6,8...12 weeks) I am not sure why heartworm hasnt started yet, mine get their first one at 6 weeks. I use the cheaper products on the market as I dont believe in paying alot more for the same thing just to have pretty packaging "Canine Allwormers" for intestinal worms every 3 months "Valueheart" monthly heartwormers (which last 6 weeks in the system actually) NEVER UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES EVER GET THE ANNUAL HEARTWORM INJECTION................... Depending on what area you live you will need to think about flea & tick treatments, "Advantage" for non tick areas & "Advantix" for Tick areas I would suggest. When you are looking at buying your products remember that you will pay twice as much for most things at your Vet, there are many good online stores including Priceless Pets far far far cheaper. ;)
  14. Perhaps it is not diet, I gather the Vet presumed it to be irritable bowel syndrome or something??? What if it is coccidia, or some other gut bacteria that is triggered by stress, & not necessarily anything to do with what he eats. Maybe teh water doesnt agree with him, giardia type problems. I would suggest a detox diet, and a Holistic Vet.
  15. Geeezus!!!! Perhaps they have put her back out & pinched a nerve from manouvering her on the table while under???????
  16. Well that would be pretty silly of them not to accept it, as it is the ONLY way to know if a dog is vaccinated or not. Just because a dog has had an injection means nothing, as many dogs never get immunity. Titers are the only way to prove a dog has levels or not. I know kennels & training Clubs that have been accepting them for years already
  17. There is always risk with surgery no matter what age but If you dont have it done, the teeth is what will cause her to go down hill in her old age, as the infection does affect the heart I would have it done if she were mine.
  18. Thank the Gods...........at last some Vets that bothered to become educated!!!!!!!!!
  19. If your dog requires surgery for the elongated soft palette, I would be rather concerned about taking your dog back to the same Vet that prescribed antibiotics & misdiagnosing the condition like that. It should have been the first thing the Vet thought of considering it is a problem in the breed! If the Vet cant diagnose it, then surely they havent experience in the condition & therefore no experience in the surgery requirements either, JMO...........I would be in touch with your breeder for advice, and a recommendation of Vets familiar with the condition. It is extremely common in short faced breeds, and it is not common to have it surgically corrected as a rule.
  20. Many breeds do it, Cavaliers do it when they are excited , on the lead & pulling etc........... Pinch their nose & make them gasp, through their mouth, point the chin down when doing it. Is it a reverse sneeze type spasm ????????
  21. It is always best to freeze ALL meat & bones before feeding, it kills bacteria that us humans are so paranoid about LOL, defrost in the fridge, & no problem.
  22. For all joint issues Ester C will help. Plain Vitamin C can not be given in any substantial dose without causing health problems like upset stomachs. Ester C is already in a form that is highly digestable to a dog & delivers much larger doses without causing stomach problems. Ester C will be absorbed far better than Vit C.
  23. Yep! The only thing I have heard about this brand is that they use 220, well known celebrity Vet on one of the morning shows many years ago trying to get the product banned due to this preservative......wonder if they still use it? I know people that were using it & when I asked them to give the dog a break from it, they discovered the dog stopped scratching itself to pieces. The dog scratched so badly that it had to wear clothes to protect its skin a bit.
  24. If you have to feed a dry food, you would probably have more joy feeding one that has no grain, wheat, cereal, rice, pasta or anything like this whatsoever. These things can cause bad skin, and ear infections. Unfortunately most commercial products contain them , also dyes & preservatives can cause bad skin too
