  1. Advising ALL my clients & puppy buyers never to touch the heartworm shot I am not familar with the routine. Perhaps your vaccination card has stickers on it??? Tell us what stickers are on there, or scan the card or bill, and we can tell you what your pup has had & what it now needs............
  2. If that Vet gave a baby puppy a heartworm shot then RUN RUN RUN.................dont ever ever go back there. NO PUPPY IS TO GET THAT SHOT, UNDER 6 MONTHS, so many many adults start having seizures within 3 months of having it let alone babies!!!!!!!! I hope you are mistaken.. If this person is bamaboozling you it is most likely cos they dont know what they are doing, some like to talk the talk & hope they sound knowledgeable enough to shut you up & do what they say ............I doubt you would go to a Doctor like that, so dont bother with a Vet like that, how can you have any faith in them at all when you dont understand a word they say............ A GOOD Vet is worth their weight in gold...................
  3. Thats one way of finding out if your dog has heartworms or not I guess.........It is more likely they dont have any, as it isnt all that easy to get really........
  4. MM Paganman No I wouldnt use it unless tested for HW first.
  5. Annual "boosters" are unneccessary so the window is about 8 years..........
  6. Booking_form_4_Jean_Dodds.doc Please find attached a booking form for the upcoming seminar June 2008 to be held at the Golden Retreiver Club of SA National show..........Please forward details to all dog owners & VETS to attend this very important seminar.
  7. Get rid of the wool mat bedding, wool can cause allergies. CORN, & all grains contained in dry foods, plus rice & pasta are also Known allergens. Also Vaccines most certainly CAN & DO cause itchy dogs, but usually it becomes a problem after a few years of build up, rather than instant skin rashes etc.
  8. Bittymoopeeb posted this 23rd Nov 06 Satin Balls Recipe's (for putting weight on dogs) From Norskgra: 500g ground beef (one with plenty of fat in it) 250g pkg cream cheese 1 jar all natural peanut butter 1 jar (smaller of the sizes) wheat germ 1 doz egg yolks 1 cup or so of flaked oats soaked in heavy cream Mix up, form balls, freeze, feed as treats or food supplement. from Cala 5kg Cheap hamburger meat {high fat content} Lg box of Sustain Cereal Lg box of uncooked oatmeal 1 jar of Wheat Germ 1 1/4 cup of veg oil 1 1/4 cup of unflavored molasses 10 eggs 10 pks of unflavored gelatin Garlic to Taste 1 cup of flaxseed...ground up. 2 scoops of Source/Kelp Take all dry ingredients and place in a bowl. I crunch up the Sustainl while still in the box, and then pour all the other dry ingredients over it In a another large bowl put the hamburger meat and the wet ingredients. Mix each bowl well, then half each so that it is easier to mix. Mix just like you would a meatloaf I then take it raw, and place in freezer bags and put in the freezer, thaw out a bag as needed. feed raw. I use this not only as a quick weight gain, but as a everyday supplement for my dogs this recipe has been tested and analyzed by several universities and was found to be a total canine diet a dog could live on this without added kibble or any other supplements...this was before I added the Garlic and the Flaxseed and Kelp I have long hair black dogs, and this recipe really keeps their coat black/soft/long since I have...the past 6 months I have had no vet bills...and my dogs coats are wonderful, you need to watch how much you feed it will put weight on a slim dog in a matter of a few days. It will also make an easy keeper fat in just a short period of time. Try it, your dogs will love it!!! One other thing, I have just started to add Kelp to it also, just for the added Iodine, may be good for those dogs that have a lower normal thyroid function. You can make this recipe in what ever amount you need/want by just halving the recipe down to what you want. from WithEverythingIAm 5kg hamburger mince or Chicken Pet Mince 1 box of Sustain or Just Right-Just Grains 500g Oatmeal #1 cup of Wheat Germ 1 1/4 cup vegetable oil #1 1/4 cup of Un-flavored Molasses 10 raw eggs + eggshells 100g of Un-flavored Gelatine #1 cup of flax seed* 6tsp Powdered Kelp* 3tsp Crushed Garlic* 3tsp Apple Cidar Vinegar* Add all dry foods together - mix. in another Larger bowl (I bought a HUGE Bucket/Basket thing from The Warehouse - $8), mix all wet foods together including crushed up eggshells. Add Dry foods into the wet container (this is where it gets messy), and mix with fingers. Make into balls, and devide into bags.
  9. Norskgra what is actually wrong with your girl from a Veterinary point of view? Quite strange she can eat processed foods, what meat is in that?
  10. Amuzing story When I lived in Israel, the dogs were Vegetarian on our Moshav. They happily rode out to the fields with us on teh tractors & scavenged for old fruit & veg as we picked. In saying that they also managed to catch small rodents & Lizards to eat. Being in the middle of a Dessert it was also interesting to see the Wolves, they would come to the fields & feast on fruit & veg also, and some of the Farms had Turkeys, and we would throw the dead ones into a gully, the Wolves would always be sitting waiting for us. Not alot of meat in the dessert, yet they all were happy to eat a vege diet when there wasnt anything else to eat, I spose that is called survival LOL
  11. Mid North Coast NSW is infested with Fleas. All my customers who use Frontline Plus have fleas, all those on Advantix 2-3 weekly dont have fleas. (doesnt last 4 weeks) Innovair These things supposedly work, indoors & also need one outdoors too. Natural products like Neem oil work also, but like most essential oils you cant use them on pregnant bitches. Someone on here the other day swears by 50:50 lemon juice , water in a spray bottle. Lime the soil/grass
  12. Ive fed it for 10 years as a Barf feeder, and have never had any dog with worms nor have I caught tape worm either LOL...........Most of these things are precautionary as they think we are all dumb Even down to monthly heartworm tablets they recommend once a month when in fact they are every 6 weeks, but they think we wouldnt remember that so make it as fool proof as possible.
  13. My guess is that he has a pinched nerve due to having his spine/neck out. I would be seeing a Chiropractor.
  14. As a Groomer I will say that ALL my clients who use Frontline Plus since it changed to "Plus" years ago have had fleas ever since, never many , but always a few. My Advantix customers have NONE, but it never lasts 4 weeks it usually only lasts 3 weeks max. There are still those people who insist Frontline Plus works, but I cant agree, and can only think they dont have fleas in the first place really. Apparantly Frontline spray still works, but so much hassle.
  15. I can see them all lined up spitting out the pips...Bless em
  16. Apparantly Lime keeps fleas & ticks at bay (also snakes).........But how often you have to do it I couldnt tell you, and does it change the soil/grass, again I couldnt tell you. Someone has said on this forum just recently that a 50:50 lemon juice:water in a spray bottle will kill fleas instantly, perhpas that is the cheapest option to start with.....again never tried it myself.
  17. Why not try these things? Cheaper & more environmentally friendly. Innovair There are others too like "Pestrol"..........You would need one indoor one & one outdoor one.
  18. I would be nervous about her eating any of the seeds by mistake, all those large seeds are either toxic or build up to cause bowel obstructions
  19. I dont feed much rabbit they are $15 for ONE Rabbit here LOL Dont know where you can get goat & Deer meat from???
  20. Some regimes: Advocate monthly Drontal 3 monthly Preventic tick collars (last 2 months) OR Advantix (fleas, ticks , mossies, mites etc) Proheart monthly heartworm tablet Drontal (3 monthly)
  21. Cavaliers are Gay & fearless, she wont have her tail between her legs & be shaking!!!
  22. You cant use Neem oil or Lavendar on pregnant bitches. Can cause abortion!
  23. I raise my pups of BARF, occassionally when I have a lot going to pet homes who dont want to feed BARF, I then use "Advance" rehydrateable with the raw diet, so all pups have the least amount of stress in converting to commercial or to total raw.......... Eukanuba always used Ethoxyquin as a preservative, this substance is used to make rubber, and was linked to auto immune disorders in dogs (going back 10 years or so )..........It would always be my last choice of product for this reason, whether or not they use it now I dont know, but it was a hidden (not on the lable) ingredient back then, so I personally would always have "trust" issues with that brand ......... As always only my opinion, I am sure lots of people will come on & say the complete opposite, and you will be left trying to decide for yourself anyway LOL
