My old girl had epilepsy and pancreatitis. We tried Hills and Royal Canin prescription diets and she flatly refused them. The only food she would eat and wouldn't get episodes with was the Prime single protein pet rolls - Kangaroo & Potato at about $11.50 per 2kg roll and boiled chicken breast. Any kind of treat, scrap, anything apart from those items and she would have an episode. She maintained a good weight once on the rolls, but unfortunately due to the epilepsy drugs she was on, had an insatiable hunger. There is a canine pancreatitis group on facebook, when the vets ran out of low fat food suggestions - that group was amazing.

Hi there. I'm in VIC and looking for some sort of trial calendar/entry forms for this year. The VHA website doesn't have anything for 2014 and the facebook page lists a trial coming up in April at KCC but I can't find an entry form. Or I am a moron and would it be in my dogs magazine (will have to find it lol). I've not done any trials before and just looking to get the instinct one done and myself and my dog are registered with dogs victoria. Can you only do an instinct test at your first trial? I've just downloaded the ankc rules for herding so will have some fun reading to do this weekend! :)

Hi there. I'm finally looking at registering my dogs (filled out the forms yay!) so I can begin herding competitions next year. Just wondering if someone knows the answer as to who I need to be registered with as I've tried contacting the Dogs Victoria office with no luck. I have mixed breed dogs kelpie x bc. As far as I can tell I need to: Join the Victorian Working Sheep Dog Assn (which I assume means I become a member of the ANKC approved Australian Sheepdog Worker's Assn as their website redirects to Vic W.S.D.A for VIC). Have my dogs inspected to for proof of working ability by the Vic W.S.D.A & register them. Join Dogs Victoria and register my dogs in the Sporting register by means of them being registered with Vic W.S.D.A. Has anyone done this before? As it's reasonably expensive I was hoping to get confirmation in case I need to go down a different path before sending off my money :) Thanks

You will need to be a member of Dogs Victoria to participate in ANKC herding tests and trials. If you are just interested in having a go then maybe try and find out where there is training near you ,and then if you get hooked you can join Dogs Vic and compete. Joining Dogs Vic just to do an Instinct Cert would be expensive IMO, unless you are also going to be trialling in obedience, agility etc. Thanks Piper, I live about 10 minutes from KCC park so hopefully will be able to find some training I found some threads on here which mention Southern Dog Club I think in Keysborough/Bangholme so will try them.

Hi Rachelle Do you have any idea if you have to be registered with anybody to do a herding instinct test? I have a 2 year old kelpie cross that will round up the horses and the cows at home but I've never done any obedience classes with her or anything with a dog club. I can call her off the stock & she sits, stays etc. Just thinking about doing the herding and wondering where should I start? ie. just wondering if I can enter for this day & do the instinct test or if I need to be a member of the herding association first? I will give the secretary a call. Cheers
