  8. They are both different surgeries. One is to repair the cruciate ligament and the other to hold the patella (knee cap) in place. It will depend on what breed your dog is for cruciate repair. Luxating patellas will depend on which way its moving. There are 2 different surgeries to repair that also.
  9. Hi Aussie Guy, give Charles Kuntz a call at South Paws who are in Moorabbin. I have a patient at my centre who has the same thing but it is a neuro problem. Alternatively give Melbourne University a call in Werribee. They have Neuro surgeons there as well. I hope it all works out!
  10. Be very careful swimming! Dogs who are not used to it tend to panic and will swim with 'gusto' so to speak and end up very very sore. Also swimming doesn't do much for the hind end of a dog as they tend to tuck their hind legs underneath their body and use from their hock down to swim. A dog can just use their front legs to propel themselves forward in the water. Unless you can get him to a proper heated dog pool, give the beach or lakes a miss as this will make him even worse as the water is too cold. Keep going on the diet and be very strict with it. No treats, no extra bits even when they give you that face! Yes you are hungry when you are on a diet as well. Weight + Arthritis = Pain.
  11. Aquapaws Canine Rehab Centre on the Mornington Peninsula also have Acupuncture and Hydrotherapy.
  12. Joint Guard is the best on the market at the moment. It has chondroitin and glucosamine, msm (methylsulfonylmethane) which is a major supplier of sulfur, it is an natural anti inflamatory. Manganese which is a mineral essential to the formation of connective tissue such as cartilage. Vitamin C which is essential for the repair and maintenace of cartliage and bones etc. It is really good stuff. There are other products on the market but I have found the best results with Joint Guard.
  13. Thank you for that. I have seen their website. I have spoken with them as well. Just checking to see if there is anybody else as well. Very hard to find this stuff.
  14. Does anybody know where I can purchase quality agility equipment in Melbourne
  15. Hi everyone, just reading through all of your replys. I have seen a lot of dogs with HD and we manage the condition in here either pre or post op with hydrotherapy in conjunction with Cartrophen injections and joint supplement and a good healthy lean weight. Hydrotherapy does work wonders in keeping the muscles toned around the hips and shoulders which are often associated with compensation problems. Look into that if you can. Pity you didn't live in Melbourne...
