Hi everyone! I have about a 15 meter by 10 meter area of Kikuyu Grass which has been pulled out of my back yard with an excavator which I need to find a new home or homes for! It's in slabs. It is the perfect dog grass, very hard wearing and drought tolerant and takes for ever to grow. So here is your chance to plant in an instant dog lawn! I am in Somerville which is Mornington Peninsula area. Easy access with a trailer as I am on acreage. You will need to bring some muscle power with you as well and a metal garden fork. Please email or phone if you are interested for my address. It was taken out yesterday afternoon (5th Jan) so its still all alive and healthy. 03 59 77 88 41 Jo

My big Dane whom I have just lost in October was measured for the largest dog. He was 41inches at the shoulder.

With scaring of skin, there is scar tissue underneath the skin which is why the hair doesn't grow back. Circular massage works wonders over the area to break up the scar tissue only after everything is healed of course. If it is an old very large scar (which yours is not) Acupuncture works even better!

Interested In..dogs With Disabilities..
Danelady replied to redangel's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I see so many in here. I make and supply Aussie Pet Wheelchairs and other Mobility Aids like leg braces and things. All dogs are very happy. They just adapt to life better than we do with missing limbs, paralysis, blindness and deafness. Its quite amazing. Their owners are brilliant and so dedicated. I have made some life long friends from all over the world now with disabled pets. Some need more nursing care than others but if the owner is willing to do that, they are very happy. I have seen blind paralysed dogs, even amputees who are now having problems with their only hind or only front leg. They all manage and their owners give them the help they need. Its brilliant. I have one dog who boards with me on a regular basis when her owners are away. She has hind limb paralysis and has been in a wheelchair for 4 years. She rounds up my chickens! It is fantastic to watch and she runs like the wind in her chair as well. She is so focused on the chooks and getting them to where she wants them to go, its truly amazing to watch her. She has a ball! -
My ol girl Zoe the great Great Dane lived till a ripe old old age of 19 and 2 months She was fed dry food, middle of the row kind and chicken frames. She was put to sleep after a massive stroke but was pretty good until then.

Hi Erny, Melbourne Uni already know about the wheelchairs as they are one of my regular clients, or their clients are really, for post op rehab and wheelchair fittings and of course wheelchairs if needed! I will try Lort Smith and ask as well. Good idea! Aussielover, if you have a look at my website in the online shop, there are pictures and info on the wheelchairs. They are all made here in Oz too by the way. Aussie Dog Wheelchairs. Its my other business besides rehab. Here is a picture of one of my clients anyway. This is Axel who lives in NSW. He got hit by a car and broke his back. He had surgery but is still unable to walk properly even after physio, so his owner got him a wheelchair. He is only 5 years old. They also live on a farm so I fitted his wheelchair with 4x4 wheels I call them, so its easier for him to get through long grass, go though mud and not get bogged etc etc. Now Axel can hoon around to his hearts content and is very happy and so are his owners. When his owner put him in the wheelchair for the first time he said that Axel took off down their driveway so fast and ran straight for the road again! His owner couldn't even catch him. He thought he was going to run out onto the road again and get hit again! Lucky he stopped. I always tell people to put a lead on them before they put them in their wheels for the first time as most just take off like rockets! There are so many people out there who just don't even know these are available and end up putting their dogs down. There are also so many uses. They are not just for paralysed dogs. We have made wheelchairs for cats and now rabbits! They are pretty fantastic, I think anyway.

Hi all, I have had a dog wheelchair donated back to my centre as unfortunately the dog who used it has now passed away. The very generous previous owner was hoping to donate it to someone in need of one, who are not in the financial position to purchase one, so their dog can have quality of life, just as her dog did with the wheelchair. I have contacted the RSPCA in Victoria and they don't want it, so I thought maybe I might find a worthy recipient on here! It is suited to a large breed like a Samoyed or Labrador or similar. The wheelchair doesn't need to be used for a dog that can't walk. It can also be used for a dog that has very bad arthritis or hip dysplasia who is having trouble just getting around. If you know anyone that may need one please email me (Jo) on [email protected]. Please also leave your contact number so I can give you a call after I have finished for the day at the centre.

If they can't afford the surgery and the dog is not in any pain, you can get doggy wheelchairs. They are very very happy in them and they can be independent again and have quality of life. I sell these all over the world every week. They are fantastic and made here in Oz.

I love the stuff and recommend it frequently

Your dog will end up with more arthritis in the knee if you don't have the surgery. The patella which is the knee cap sits in a groove called the trochlear notch. The knee cap should slide up and down this groove as the leg moves forward and back. A luxating patella is a knee cap that can move from side to side of this groove. The longer its left the more worn the groove will become (as in flatten out instead of being a groove) and the body compensates by building arthritis to hold the knee cap in place. It can be painful. You can however build muscle around the knee with a grade 1 or grade 2 luxation. You can't with a grade 3 or 4 luxation. Your vet can advise on grading of the luxation. So you have two options - wait until it gets worse which causes more problems as your dog will be putting more pressure on the other knee or get it fixed now while it isn't as bad. Either way your dog will have arthritis in the knee.

Cruciate ligaments don't heal themselves. If your dog is under 10 kgs as an adult, providing they don’t have damage to the Meniscus, scar tissue can form over the tear only if it’s a partial tear, but you have to keep your dogs activity to a minimum and very controlled. I see lots of them in here. The longer you leave it, the worse it gets and its very painful. There is also a change of doing the other knee as well.

Metho works really well after the crack has healed up. It makes them tuff! Keep him off concrete as that is too harsh on sore feet. I recommend metho for my endurance dogs that come in.

My farm is called 'Killara' which is an aboriginal word for 'always there'. You can use that too if you want. I run my business from my farm and I am always here for everyone which is why I called it that.

Canine Hydrotherapy In Canberra
Danelady replied to muffinmclay's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Thanks so much for this, I will call them tomorrow. Sorry about the delay - i forgot that I posted the question! BTW, your Vizslas are beautiful - love the breed Hi muffinmclay, we use both here for dogs with really bad HD and its a perfect combination. You need to try and keep muscle tone on and Hydrotherapy is a great way. Acupuncture works well for pain relief. -

What Diet Should I Be Giving My Dane Puppy?
Danelady replied to Maddi1146's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I have seen more growth problems with dogs on a raw diet than on a processed one. I also have greats (24 years). Eagle Pak (if they will eat it) is fantastic. You need low protein. -

Soooo many fantastic photos and lots of wonderful memories to go with them. We are all so lucky!
