The AVMA voted August 2012 against giving raw food to your pets -because pathogens like salmonella and e.coli can be transmitted to humans by handling raw food. Could be your vet told you this in response to that. However go figure since most of us handle raw meat every week with our food.

[ Well yes that's true but being vaccinated against measles, chicken pox etc. also doesn't mean that you'll never get them. But back to parvo it is a serious issue and I'm not sure, or at least I haven't heard, an argument that I can go back to my vet on Thursday and say she shouldn't be vaccinated again. So at this stage I'm taking her to be vaccinated again as I would not like to be responsible for her either picking it up or passing onto another dog. Still open to more opinions though.......

No not for kennels or dog sports but I could not risk her catching parvo and this is where its all so confusing. Since the titre test "can mean no immunity" or just no "circulating antibodies" then would I not be taking a risk by not vaccinating her against it this year since I don't know which it is? I could titre test her again after the vaccination but then in a years time supposing it shows no antibodies again.

Last year I titre tested my miniature dachshund for antibodies and she was fine, this year the titre test has come back saying she has no immunity to parvo. She is now 3 1/2, had all her puppy vaccinations and annual C5 at one year of age - can anyone shed any light on why she doesn't seem to have a "lifetime immunity". We're off to the vets tomorrow to get her re-vaccinated so would like to go with some information.

A friend of mine has just got a new puppy and due to the lay out of the house is trying to toilet train her both on paper and outside. Saw an earlier thread about how confusing this is so looking for some advice. Its a 3 storey house and she will mainly live upstairs thus the need to go on paper. The garden is 3 floors down so they're taking her out last thing at night/first thing in the morning. All other times to go on paper in the house. She's a dachshund so can't run up and down the stairs (not that many anyway) Will she just get used to going on paper, with the usual praise etc. and also learn to go in the garden?

Its not just one of those groomer nice smelling shampoos, if you do a search (or click on the link above to get you started) you will find lots of positive info for eczema, dermatitis etc. using this product.

Hi Luke, Funnily enough my dog started scratching with spots under her front arms (?) so changed her from Eagle Pack to Artemis, on top of going to the vet for antibiotics to clear it up, together with being told to use Malaseb shampoo. This was the second bout of itching spots, thus the change of diet. However had a delivery of Evening Primrose Oil from Groomers Products and after using that, and I'm convinced it was this shampoo and not the pills, all has disappeared. Artemis is still what we're using. Any comments on the scratching and the reflex kicking? Arghhh...Dogs. End vent.

Can anyone recommend a bowen therapist in this area? Have a client with a 6 month old puppy who is having some kind of recurring neck complaint. She's in pain and sometimes holds her head up because she can't lower it. Vets put her on anti inflammatories (I think it was these) and they think she may have to stay on them for the rest of her life!! Would prefer the gentler techniques of bowen to chiro and would really appreciate some recommendations. Thanks.

Scottie, We flew a dog from Canada to the UK and then eventually out to Australia. My understanding is that the hold gets very cold and if they have livestock they have to turn on the heating in the hold. I guess if you're worrying about the heat here in Australia and are thinking of a cooling pad, it might not be great once they're on the flight. Not very helpful but why don't you ring up the companies that transport pets all the time, they must know and be able to answer your concerns.

Cavandra, why Never ever use the heartworm injection?

Sounds like the microchip to me - had a dog with exactly the same thing. Never caused any problems

Not related to dogs I know, but my daughter went through this and it turned out she was allergic to dust mites. We went through the injection scenario for about a year (think it was meant to be 3 years) but to be honest not a lot of difference, so we eventually stopped going. May have worked after 3 years or so, but that is a long time to traipse along to a clinic every week for injections. Perhaps going along with the homeopathic route as well might work. Good luck.

My dog just got gunky eyes too - maybe something to do with all the pollen flying around at the moment. Anyway got some eye ointment from the vet for her and he also said I could use visco drops at night. Think thats the name - just normal human eye drops. Double check with your vet though - wouldn't like to be passing on bad advice.
