  1. New foster dog PB BYB Lab OOOMMMGGG our backyard is now yellow! Such a sweet dog though, she's worth it.
  2. Thinking of you, Jed. Every day, because your experience has reminded me to enjoy every moment I have with my dogs and family. Nothing is taken for granted. Will crawl back into my corner and hug my dogs now, and Harminee will wave her magic wand and make us all cheery again. Eta I've just been re-reading the start of this thread and got miserable. Then read some of this end - this is such a special place to be!
  3. Is he desexed? Is all his other vet work up to date? I admire the good people who would take him on, but for a 15yo I think the owner's decision should be respected. Easy for me to say because I haven't met him, he's just a concept on the internet, but older dogs often end up in pounds and rescue, and usually the discussion is about how the owner should have had the guts to just front up to the vet to pts rather than putting the dog through a traumatic experience with strangers.

    Rex

Very sorry for your loss Mon. Rex was just such a handsome gentleman.
  5. Poor Souff. It seems so long ago now that some of us read the news, but that initial heart breaking stomach turning shock of finding this thread doesn't really fade. Hugs to you too.
  6. Difficult to find the right words again. I have no knowledge of injuries like Jed's, but hope that medications and treatments are keeping her as comfortable as possible. I trust the more experienced that are saying that it's two steps forward, one step back. You're so missed here Jed. Thank you again to all the people looking after her and her family. Thankfully this waiting room appears to be calorie-free Hopefully the couple of bottles of decent Shiraz are allowed? Sorry, we might have to use disposable cups from the tea-room, but chocolate and red go well together, trust me! ETA just look out for the quilt with all this food and drink....
  7. Very glad to hear of improvement Jed. You are missed. Harminee you have such pretty thoughts. I'd join you all in the waiting room but I've got a yucky cold and Stevie would eat all the muffins. Still watching and waiting, from out in the car park.
  8. Thanks for those photos Steve. In the middle of this misery it's heartening to see the survivors. ChiChi must be one tough little dog, and very lucky. Can somebody please link to her rescue story or tell it again here? All best wishes for Jed's operation today and to her family and friends.
  9. Just a thought that's probably already been done, but perhaps lots of bowls of water should be left around for Magnus? The idea of using a tracker dog is brilliant, as is bringing in one of his own pack to bark for him. Crying at work again, those poor dogs under the bed. Heartbreaking.
  10. I have a truly beautiful collapsible soft crate called 'Bono Fido Portable Pet Home' 650x490x500. Pristine and new! Jodie's been inside it twice for 30 seconds and hates it. Stevie's too big for it. Rocky's a cat and wouldn't deign to enter something designed for a dog - unless it annoys them. It's embarrassing that I spent money on it, so Sway can you help me get rid of it? I don't know about postage - it's only a couple of kilos but about the same dimensions as above but one of them is only 30 when it collapses. So for the right price at auction I'll cover postage as well.
  11. Ten for me please. I'm going to use them as Christmas and birthday presents - maybe even Father's Day present! Seems an ideal Christmas present to keep in the cupboard for dog-walker, good neighbours, dog boarding people, cat boarding person, vets, Kringle at work, and those people who already have everything
  12. All my best wishes to Jed and her family, those still with us and those who've been so tragically lost. Jed's posts on DOL have always had my utmost respect and admiration. Wish there was more I could do to help. Julie, please let us know if anything specific is required in the coming times, though I realise just now money is probably the best donation.
  13. There was an article in today's Sydney Morning Herald about this that was quite inspiring. Wish I knew how to post it using my phone. A community enviro group has tripled to more than 90,000 volunteers meeting up at bbqs and parties, putting human, dog and horse hair into donated stockings go make oil-soaking sausages.
  14. Stevie is a lab x GR born near Penrith according to her 'papers'. Three months after she joined our family - three months of learning, socialization, fun, joy - I saw at the old shop at Roselands a pup who MUST be her sister, hunched up in her little cage, not interested in people at all. Same birth date, same breed mix, same face. She haunts me, I wish I had grabbed her then. A week later she was gone. So now I'm a mutterer when walking past the new shop and getting louder every time. I say, whether someone is with me or not: "where do puppies come from?". I should have gone back sooner for Stevie's sister.
  15. Same with our dogs, but I also use Stevie's special word as an emergency recall word - she always gets food if she comes to that word, and I've called her from 100m when she's been running at full pelt to another dog she wanted to play with! If someone else is feeding them apparently 'ok' will do as a release word, and if a stranger offers them food when we're not around Stevie will happily eat it.
  16. I finally met a lab x poodle the other day that wasn't psycho! She looks like a skinny little lab and sheds like a demon, is highly food driven and active, but has a good owner and is very quick to learn by watching the other dogs around her. Not barky either. Not what the owner expected though, she thought it would have a curly coat.
  17. Yes. My cat survived the Orijen poisoning and luckily has recovered almost completely from tetraplegia (and other associated neurological disorders). She was one of the worst affected that has recovered completely. I will keep in contact with Georgina at SASH and when Rocky's time comes, even if she lives a full life of another 15 years or so, I intend to offer her body for study. It may help other cats (or possibly people with MS). ETA Glad to hear Charlie is being so happy in spite of it all. He's living his life as fully as possible - an inspiration!
  18. There used to be a shop in the QVB in Sydney that had great statues and they now seem to be online - www.pawsawhile.com.au - it might be worth contacting them even if they don't have what you want straight away.
  19. I'm a bit slow. Anyone on this forum got a week off work looking after their new Whippy pup? Just wondering...
  20. Transfer made, thanks Julie. Ruthless if I win this collar for Stevie, I'll need to commission another one for Jodie! ETA I just looked at your website - will need one for our cat too!
  21. Any of the aloe vera or tea-tree salves. The spots don't usually itch very long, main thing is of course not to scratch them!
  22. Everyone at our local dog park has been complaining about the flea problem in Sydney this summer, but we haven't had any so far. We use Revolution on both dogs and cat, every month including through winter because it has the heartworm prevention in it and we have mozzies year-round. The boss at our local pet food place has become an expert on flea treatment because he's been dealing with so many people and he says many don't understand the absolute fundamentals - for example, they're using a spot treatment then washing the dog straight away to get the dead fleas off them, or treating the dog and not the cat because the dog's the only one reacting to the flea bites. He's also found one person who was coming in every week for more Capstar - they just kept using it every week as a prevention. He can't get over how many people just don't read the instructions!
  23. Both. Stevie is a very deep-chested dog and I read on DOL some advice about feeding smaller meals to mitigate against bloat.
  24. Murray from Mad About You - I still tell Jodie to 'get the mouse' when she's haunting the hallway staring at a spot on the floor. Toto Hamish Macbeth's Westie. When I was in a rented flat and just dreaming of one day owning a dog, I spent what seemed a LOT of money at the QVB on a concrete life-sized Westie 'Macduff' who still lives in my kitchen, peaking out cheakily from under a cupboard. ETA Dougal from Magic Roundabout - I begged my parents for a Dougal-dog for years
