I'm loving this webcam! How come any time the pups are awake, the black ones are doing the rumbling and wrestling? There's only one yellow who wants to play

That looks like an old link and an old list. Brings back nightmares though! I have a cat that survived Orijen. Melamine from China has been involved in several recalls of several brands of dog and cat (and human) food over the last couple of years.

I met an 11 week old Tibetan Spanial pup today at the vet. I don't normally do 'cute' but OMG even I squealed - he was such a fluffy white piece of gorgeousness, and being beautifully cared for by his owners. He's the happiest, friendliest pup, full of mischief and so tiny - he was wearing a blue diamante kitten collar! If EVER I get a fluffy little pup it's got to be one like him! I just wish I'd asked if I could take a photo, and who his breeder is ETA I have a black Lab X and a black Kelpie X - he would have been the size of the LabX's tail!

Is That A Male Newf, I Want To Use Him To Breed
Katdogs replied to newfsie's topic in General Dog Discussion
While out walking once, a stupid bloke was most insistent that his yellow Lab would DEFINITELY guarantee all CHOCOLATE Labs - from my black Lab x GR! It took ages to convince him she was desexed, not to follow me home because he thought she was the best Lab bitch he'd ever seen My cousin has a Bernese MD x Newfie. Appararently the 'breeder' had an ooops litter and the puppies were so wonderful she did it again deliberately. They don't drool, but are cute. Apparently. -
Yep :D Our poor old bloke had been treated for a few weeks for a staff dermatitis with antibiotics. Seemed to be settling but he suddenly had a few red sore patches where he'd been chewing. Because we haven't had fleas in the house in five years, and I didn't see any on our black dogs, I didn't even think it might be fleas upsetting him as well! The groomer mentioned he'd seen fleas when I had him clipped - late on a Saturday when the vet wasn't available, of course! Groomer didn't want to give him a flea wash because of the broken skin. After that I caught several on him and some on Jodie. We've used Capstar (left in the cupboard after treating some rescue dogs), Revolution, Fleatrol Plus, washing, vacuuming, sunshine and some new bedding. I *hope* we're finally on top of the rotten little bugs. We have a supply of cortisone and antihistamine in the cupboard because Stevie can sometimes have extreme allergic reactions (cause unknown), always after vet hours Old Mate is on Meloxicam though, so can't give him much else.

Thinking of you both, I trust this is just another of Ollie's scares and he'll be with you a comfy while longer.

Donation made, Steve. I guess it won't hit PACERS account until tomorrow or Thursday. Norskgra donated a day to help me with a dog rescue project and I really appreciate that. I saw how special and loved her dogs were. I believe Vicsta also worked for my family's 'other' charity - Special Olympics. Over the years on DOL I have admired the warmth and caring that this mum and daughter had. I can't imagine suddenly losing my only family member, then potentially losing my home, job and her most beloved dogs as well. I just wish there was more that could be done from Sydney to help out.

:D  A neighbour - such NICE dogs, and they win prizes too! I'm not a breeder/showy (obviously) but Robyn's dogs are an advertisement for purebreeding, just by walking around the streets!

Hey Hesa, at least one of the people in the original list is no longer posting on DOL and won't be able to receive PMs She's a lurker though, so if she wants me to confirm her order she can email me...

What Would You Want To See At A Community Dog Event?
Katdogs replied to ruthless's topic in General Dog Discussion
All of these are what I'd like to see! The reason we usually DON'T go to a dog event are heat/lack of shade, crowding, hard to get parking, and same-old-same-old stalls. I've been to Holroyd Pet Fest a couple of times and it would be better without the petting zoo (yuck), with more shade, and with more 'individual' stalls. I've only seen breeders at the Royal Easter Show and it's just too stressful to get to chat and meet the dogs, mostly, and there's only one 'breed of the day' where the dogs are on display to the public, not just judges. I understand it's not the main point of the Show but it would be lovely to actually meet breeders and their dogs in a non-stressed environment. -
Confirming five for me, looking forward to seeing it!

. I jinxed us by posting here. Our ancient SWF didn't want his breakfast this morning. It has meloxicam on it so I've left it for him inside the house, with the other dogs outside. It's the first time in many months that he's not scoffed down his food.

20 seconds is about normal for my Lab X! We supervise all meals but the picky dogs learn to eat it or lose it, there's only so long they get. Longer and with greater distance or door separation between the dogs if it's bones/chewy, and there's no real aggression or stealing of food, but the atmosphere is 'eat eat eat', not 'I'll just see if this food is here later, when I might feel more like eating it'. The cat is the only creature allowed to wander through and take from dog bowls, when she's feeling cheeky.

I've asked our vet to get a quote on titre testing for Stevie, as she has had dramatic reactions twice in her five years of vaccinations. Vet is keen to pursue this option, however the dogs need to go into boarding for a few weeks in June and the boarding kennel has just said that it is 'illegal' for them to keep a dog without an annual vaccination certificate. Can it be illegal? I thought perhaps it might affect the insurance, but not that the kennel could be closed down if I don't provide a certificate. If it turns out too hard I'll have the C5 done at a time when someone can be home with her all day, same as last year. We don't know for sure it was the vacc she was reacting to, in both cases she was in areas of the yard where she may have had spider bite or other strange things happen. We do know for sure that she's extremely allergic to dust mites and some plants, and she's having desensitisation treatment for that. Poor chook has been a snuffly girl for years, dosed up on anti-histamines and cortisone, and now has nice clean eyes, sinuses and ears!

http://www.k9pro.com.au/news/20/Pet-dog-su...auls-four?.html (direct link to Buster's story on K9pro site - the family has enlisted Steve's aid in assessment and possible rehabilitation of Buster) Thanks very much for that. It seems there may have been a bit of a media beat-up? What a surprise I've had dog-related dealings with the mayor, general manager and companion animal officer at Canterbury and have found them quite reasonable, given the constraints and priorities they have to work with. The staff at the pound are lovely. Good luck to Busta, Steve and the family.

More Questions About My Foster Boy - Huey!
Katdogs replied to PoppyDog's topic in General Dog Discussion
This may be opening a whole new can of worms, but how does interstate rescue take from NSW pounds? Do they get a 16D (or equiv) or is someone else having the dogs chipped into their own rescue group's name and then transferring the paperwork? Or are they paying the full tender/sale price? Just wondering. -

Happy story: Chipped, registered, undesexed female Staffy went missing 9 years ago. Toddler and family devastated but no sign of dog anywhere. Family grows, gets a GSD, toddler grows up but teaches her younger sisters all about 'her' dog and always remembers. Family got a call last Monday. Were they missing a Staffy? Two years ago the dog was found on the street a wandering, thin girl. She was checked out, then chipped, desexed and kept by people who now can no longer care for her due to changed circumstances. (I'm a bit hazy on these details). When she was scanned on Monday to check the chip before rehoming/surrender, the first chip was picked up! No idea where she was during those lost 7 years, but signs are she's had a few pups. She's been lovingly cared for over the last two years and has no signs of any problems except overfeeding. She recognised her family straight away, is getting on well with the young male GSD, and all's good! NINE years and she's home!!

Just a bit of an update. We've been using the Big Dog BARF since this thread started and we're very happy with it. It's the only change of diet the dogs have had for ages, everything else we use (dry, health booster powder, added eggs/tuna/vegies etc) has remained the same. However, Stevie's also been undergoing allergy desensitising treatment (dust mites mainly) for the last two months. She's lost two kilos which is a good thing , is shining like a mirror and is bursting with energy. The vets can't believe she hasn't had any skin or ear problems compared with last summer, and compared with lots of other clients this year. I don't know how much (if at all) the change to Big Dog has played in this massive improvement, but we're sticking with it. We don't use the Roo because I can't stand the smell, but all the rest are good. Just a few supply problems - our local people seem to only order when they've run out of almost all of it, so sometimes the selection is reduced.

Must be an election on: http://www.smh.com.au/nsw/state-election-2...0310-1bpql.html Doggone it: it's lonely on the hustings Alexandra Smith March 11, 2011 CATS and dogs and a glamorous swimwear model saved the day for Barry O'Farrell yesterday. The only time the Opposition Leader managed to inject a little bit of spark in his campaigning was when he announced a Coalition plan to spend $7.5 million on upgrading the dilapidated RSPCA animal shelter at Yagoona. And that was possibly because he had the model and designer Jodhi Meares, an RSPCA ambassador, by his side. Mr O'Farrell wandered around the cages of sick and abandoned dogs, cats and even cockatoos at the ageing centre before receiving a round of applause when he committed to doing what Labor wouldn't - fixing the animal shelter. The 40-year-old centre is so rundown that the ceiling near the operating theatres recently caved in and many of the 800 animals housed at the centre live in outdoor shelters that are falling apart and do not have airconditioning. ''What the RSPCA does is important. It's important … because this is about animal welfare,'' Mr O'Farrell said. ''But it's also important … because of the interaction between pets and owners in so many circumstances.'' The staff cheered, Ms Meares politely clapped and the RSPCA's chief executive, Steven Coleman, beamed. But it was a very different reception just an hour earlier when Mr O'Farrell arrived at the deathly quiet Ruse Village Shopping Centre, in the seat of Campbelltown, one which the Coalition is desperately trying to win. Mr O'Farrell and the Liberal candidate Bryan Doyle walked around the suburban centre, with barely a voter in sight. He stopped to pat an enormous dog and then popped in to the butchery to ask about the price of lamb. Mr O'Farrell was there to stand in front of the Coalition's mobile billboard, opposing the federal government's proposed carbon tax. If he was there to meet constituents, he chose the wrong place.

I'm a fan of the Vebo puppy pen. It's very versatile - we quite often use two or three panels at a time across doorways or more panels to go across the driveway, if we need to separate visiting dogs for a bit. We first bought ours when our cat was very ill and couldn't jump, but needed a largish portable safe area I could reach in and out of easily. I haven't used them for exactly the purpose they were designed for, i.e. I haven't put all the panels together and pegged them into the ground, because the dogs seem to respect the rattling/crashy noise if the panels get moved on a solid surface. ETA two sets of panels might be quite heavy to travel with, they're solid.

Questions for an interested bystander * I thought there was only one family of Bergamasco in Australia, or at least just one breeding pair. How many of a breed are required for a show? * When do the 'children's showing' thing happen, or does it not at a Royal? One of my neighbours has a lovely Fox Terrier for the children to show, along with their own Staffords. * How can I possibly get to see all my favourite breeds when there's a few every day of the show and I can't take all those days off work
