I voted before I read the rest of the thread. This: and I have been thinking about the litter of pups at a pet shop that some DOLers knew were potentially seriously dangerous and tried to do something about.

She's so beautiful, and obviously loved! My childhood dog - the best dog in the world - was an Aussie. I'm going to get me another one of them one day. And Misty is a lovely name too, we've had that name in the family for another special dog. Must make you very happy to see these photos!

My only experience of the breed-specific foods is for Stevie (LabxGR). Her 'breeder' recommended the food (on a bit of paper from the pet shop when she was 5 and a half weeks old) so we stuck with it for a few years, first puppy then adult versions. Stevie's got some allergies (let's guess it's her Goldie half?) so we've changed to Canidae grain-free when we use dry. I wish the grain-free came in the big pieces with holes so she has to at least crunch once before scoffing down. Anything smaller can almost is just about sniffed up her nose We add extra joint guard and Dr whatsisname's health vitamins anyway, so it was the shape of the Lab formula that was most attractive. It's a lot like some of the supermarket dry foods were like about 30 years ago, but then shelf space got expensive ;) The shape is totally wrong for our other dogs, they're better with the small bits or softer food.

Compared to many of you I only dipped a toenail into rescue/rehoming but OMG there are some nutters out there. If it feels wrong it probably is. I had a phone call from someone desperate for Teddy (MaltxShi from a couple of years ago) for her little girl's 7th birthday, in a couple of days time. He wasn't suitable as a kid's dog and I said so. Two days later I had another call from a totally different person who was desperate for a dog to go to her aunt who had breast cancer but her dog was dying and needed to be pts so they wanted to get her another dog immediately (before the long-time dog was pts) to make everyone happy. There was just one word pronounced the same way (an accent, but unusual) that put my hackles up. Ted was unsuitable for both families without even meeting them, but then I found out that one of the young girls at the pet food place where I'd put up a poster was the cousin of the 7yo and the neice of the woman 'recovering' from cancer who didn't want another dog but thought she should do what she could to make the little girl happy. Eeeeeeek. They would have said anything to get this dog, based on a photo. I changed his petrescue profile to be less cute after this. Now if I have any say, no dog goes anywhere from me without careful checking and, if I can't do a yard check, at least a vet reference and maybe a local rescue group visiting. Ted's eventual family is still sending Christmas cards and he has been very important to them through some troubles and has finally proved he was worth all the effort. Phew!

I've been thinking of starting a thread like this because I saw THREE Samoyeds on Sunday afternoon at the park! Two separate owners, lovely big teddy bears with less mud than my dogs :/ Same day, same park, a French Bulldog playing fetch like a healthy fit young pup should, not being cossetted like the only other frenchies I've met. Plus a CCrested, a sociable GSD (and the antisocial GSD we often meet there), a handsome Weim and and and ... a Curly Coated Retreiver! NOT a usual day in this park! Mine were unusually the odd cross breeds. They were mostly well behaved but with all the training in the world Stevie will still beg for food from anyone

I'm willing to wait, or convert to donation if it all goes horribly wrong. It's the nature of volunteering - just got to go with the flow of it, and appreciate any contribution when it happens ETA by Christmas would be nice though, as a follow-up for those I gave last Christmas ;)

30 May was one (actually two, because I hadn't included my address in the first), sent to [email protected]. I thought I sent another more recently but that may have been sent from work email address. Doesn't worry me, but I'm possibly going to be out of contact for a few weeks so thought I should let you know
-
I've emailed twice and had no response, so I've ordered my five from the shop and any overpayment on postage can be kept as a donation, same as last time. I'd forgotten my details and had to register as a new user again

The 'superficial' bites looked nasty on the news just now, right through clothing and with a fair bit of blood. Poor kid and mum, terrifying for them.

Oh I WISH I could go, I missed last year too! Maybe next year.

It's NSW council law (? - maybe just guidelines) to provide leash free parks, however I don't think they have to be fenced. Our council has several advertised leash-free parks. Council will fence some parts (e.g. running along a canal, or separating a section of a park) but otherwise rely on existing neighbours' fences. One park had a big area that we thought was part of the park, until the neighbouring landowner built a big fence across it and blocked it off! We love our leash-free parks, Canterbury and Hurstville council areas have some great parks. Some of the owners and dogs, however...

Oh. Wow. <<runs away to look up Bernese 101>>

I started this in the training thread but thought there might be more 'newbie' dog owners in General who have used a trainer recently. Extended family's young 'Aussie Bulldog' male is a very nice-natured dog but is pulling very hard on lead. Basic obedience at home is good, it's just the lead pulling that's a real problem because he's just getting bigger and stronger and he's very ...enthusiastic... about life ;) Can anyone suggest a trainer in the Wollongong area who might be able to help a young mum get him to walk nicely so she feels more in control? It may be a problem to go to a training club due to having the kidlets looked after, so a couple of home visits might be best to start off. Thanks!

And it makes complete sense. Honestly - if I run by this, the time is now. When the time comes, I hope I'll have the strength and opportunity to give Stevie a BBQ chicken including bones and seasoning, and a packet of mint slices, then let her go after she's enjoyed them, than keep her going until she doesn't want food any more. Of course it won't be easy, it is very very sad, but it sounds like you already do know what is needed, to do the right thing by your little mate. If you have any doubts, maybe call Georgina and discuss your questions/concerns about the remaining medication options? She's very easy to talk to, and honest, and helpful, and will know more about the condition than your vet. ETA big hugs, it's a hard decision indeed

19000 - 450 = Good story, a bit rushed at the end when they were all chatting but I don't usually watch the show so maybe that's normal.
-
Very happy to watch... but even happier not to clean up or have scratched or teethed arms and feet! I wish they'd bring back the Lab pups some time, so I know who's who. there was one rascally black one with SO much character, even at just a few weeks old.

Family Sues Council Over Fatal Dog Mauling Of Child
Katdogs replied to samoyedman's topic in In The News
Judge awards damages to father and brother of girl mauled to death by dogs May 25, 2011 - 12:58PM The father and brother of a four-year-old girl mauled to death in a dog attack in rural NSW have been awarded more than $120,000 in damages. Peter Kuehne and his son Dylan, now 12, sued Warren Shire Council for negligence, claiming it failed to exercise powers given to it by the Companion Animals Act. In July 2006, Tyra Kuehne was mauled to death by one or more of six pig hunting dogs kept in the backyard of a property in Warren, in the central west of NSW. In the NSW District Court today, Judge Michael ordered the council to pay Mr Kuehne $95,330 in damages and his young son $28,506 in damages. Mr Kuehne claimed the council failed to act on complaints about the risk posed by the dogs. I've been watching them! We had a thread going: http://www.dolforums.com.au/topic/219776-cuddly-new-police-recruits-on-facebook/ - don't know how to post links to threads yet in new DOL
-
Hmmmmmm... Sounds like a brilliant idea - though I didn't look at the link, I'm squeamish - but I'm already plotting a way to feed this to the poor BYB underfed unloved regular escapees from down the road. Or their owners...

Counting nine little round pups there again this morning, all looks good! They're all so black, it's hard to count them. Sometimes they spread themselves around while asleep, but I think the camera doesn't show all of the box. One yesterday was lying on its back and stretched and fell over, his/her belly is so big he/she couldn't stop rolling
-
You're a good woman with a big heart Teebs Is there a 'safer' way for unwanted dogs to be dumped in your town, where they won't freeze and might have a chance of rescue? It might be worth an article in the local paper. Then again, with publicity you might end up being the dumpee again Good luck to King Tip!
-
Poor mum got up for a stretch and scratch at about 5pm and I counted 9 little white collars! One littler one seemed a bit slower than the others and was between her front paws rather than suckling, so I hope he/she picks up a bit. I've been having a very stressful time at work this week so this website has been a great distraction to flip to and update every so often. It was a worry when the screen was black for a while, then so exciting to see the pups this afternoon! So is mum a GSD or Malinois?
-
PUPPIES!!!

So puppy cam at the moment has no puppies, but what looks like a GSD in a whelping box! http://www.police.nsw.gov.au/about_us/structure/specialist_operations/counter_terrorism_and_special_tactics/spg/nsw_police_dog_unit Or is she a Malinois?
