You'll find several DOLers were affected and mine is one of the few cats who was almost completely tetraplegic but is now still going strong. Note the article in the paper is from 2009. I think the information is now quite out of date. More cats passed in the six months to twelve months after this article as their owners slowly lost hope or gave in to the drudgery and indignity for the cat of being cared for with paralysis.

Recommended Skin Specialist Sydney
Katdogs replied to TheCheekyMonster's topic in General Dog Discussion
The account for Linda's work for Stevie was through Sydney Uni, not SASH. Maybe that affects the pricing? SASH didn't hold back on the billing for Stevie's lump paraosteal fibrolypoma tests and surgery (eta it was worth every cent though for peace of mind!). -

Recommended Skin Specialist Sydney

Linda Vogelnest is the specialist who our vet asked to do Stevie's allergy analysis and serum. Didn't seem terribly expensive, but we didn't have a consult. -
Butternut is easiest, just leave the skin on

I'm just simply : and a bit . about all the ethical hard-working rescues having their years of good work used and then ruined. Local elections coming up. Who can get a story in the Gazette, Blacktown Torch(?) etc about how good rescues work with the pounds, not just fairy-tale weavers?

I was going to recommend Foreshore Drive but last time we went there, people with little kids were trying to have picnics in the middle of the dogs and throwing sticks, rocks and sand at them. It was a busy Sunday afternoon in summer though. The trucks going past the narrow parking shoulder are a bit scary. I haven't seen the feet or heard the rustling in the shrubs for a long time, but I keep my eyes ahead anyway (the dunes have a bit of a reputation as a ... um ... 'meeting place' for people with particular tastes). Where on Botany Bay? I'm ok with the water at Glebe at the right tide, as long as I can rinse off the dogs under the showers at Greg's tennis club (don't tell the members). It's better than the mangrove swamps around our area that Stevie really wants to go into! There really aren't many nice water places around Sydney except the north side.

Petfest 2012 - Furry, Feathery, Scaly Entertainment
Katdogs replied to Holroyd Council's topic in General Dog Discussion
For once it doesn't clash with the Lugarno spring fair so Stevie and I might come along after all! I hope it's cooler than last time I went, the petting farm/zoo critters looked stressed, as did the microchipping staff in the tents. -

Ooooh how fun! Wish I could be there! Will there be lots of rescue stalls set up too? -
If you don't mind giving them a good bath when they get home, we enjoy going to the bit of beach in Glebe (Bicentennial Park). It's better when the tide is higher, it's worth checking before going.

All this, plus small groups rather than masses of dogs, and separate individual training for reactive dogs (and their owners) long before they join the other groups. I especially like the idea of puppy primary school and dog high school for pets, rather than the sports groups (but with encouragement to join sports groups for interested people).

Dog Vomiting Up Foam And Blood
Katdogs replied to keetamouse's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Could still be KC with a very irritated throat. How does the blood look, fresh red or old dark? I'd be trying the benedryl and honey until you get to the vet, it can't hurt. Good luck. -
Can someone cleverer than me find the old thread about Chewy's dog that went to fat camp? It's lovely to see you caring for him and he should do well on the meds and diet! Pumpkin is your friend and he does have a lovely face. He actually doesn't look that big to me, so hopefully soon he'll feel much better

Ooooh they sneaked through while Tracey wasn't there! She's going to be JEA-LOUS!! -
In my experience you'll feel worse and more guilty yet, when you realise you didn't automatically grab for his lead or bowl or look for him, because you've moved on. It's all part of the process of grieving and we have all been through it in our own ways. Hang on to the fact your pup is no longer in pain, and you thought of his needs and did the right thing by him. It doesn't get easier with practice by the way, every dog is different

Vietnam Veterans March - Guest Of Honor Private Sarbi
Katdogs replied to Inevitablue's topic in General Dog Discussion
Great work! I was talking to a bloke today at the dogs nsw day (I think he had mastiffs?) who told me Stevie looked like Sarbi and thought I wouldn't know who Sarbi is! He said when he was in Vietnam the Sarge asked for anyone who knew anything about dogs. He put his hand up and was sent to clean kennels, but ended up working with the tracker dogs in a special unit. He wants to get Sarbi and another dog to an Anzac day show next year. ETA Sarbi went AWL and still got two medals? Or was she a deserter? -
So sorry MsD. Your house will be too still and quiet. But you will never lose the love. It's amazing how big your heart can stretch to hold the happy and sad, but the happy is why we do it.

Wow Charles is a powerful little man! That's beautiful, thank you for sharing. Emmy is keeping Charlie moving like a real personal trainer, isn't she!

I'm not usually a 'hang'em high' sort of person but I don't want this guy back on the streets before he's even 30!

A couple of weeks ago my little Maggot SWF couldn't get up the steps to eat BBQ chicken, and gave me the look I'd been waiting for, and then I just knew. It was a combination of resignation, patience, asking for help, and an other-worldliness that couldn't be mistaken. Sometimes the thinking about it and dreading it is worse than the time of passing itself. With Maggot, I'd been expecting a crisis or decision-point for two years. When it came to his time though, after a mint slice and tummy-rubs in the sun and a rousing bark at the puppy in reception, I could feel his pain drain away under my hands, and knew he was at peace. My OH feels it more than me. I think it's because I overthink it and worry about it and talk about it beforehand. He puts it all off and doesn't want to know about procedures or the technical aspects, then tries to deal with it in a big lump that can be hard to swallow. Look out for your partner, he may find it difficult to talk. Hugs for this terrible time for you all.

Plan B, can you tell me more or point me to a link about the black dog in the front of that photo? I'd swear you must have dognapped my Stevie! Well done Horse, I hope you find good strong owners to give your big heart to.
