  1. Only saw a few minutes of the show but enough to see how good the dogs were!
  2. Yep, that would set mine off! Jodie the Kelpie wouldn't know which way to turn!
  3. Oooh poor boy, Stevie has that same 'I still love everyone but why didn't that dog like me?' look. I like Perse's idea of putting up a notice.
  4. I have a sweet sooky big black Lab cross if you want Riddick to have Stevie therapy. She's helped quite a few fosters to find their confidence and remember their Labby play.
  5. Does kitten season ever sto these days? Will look into what's required. No time or really cash for the job but a huge crate and lots of love.
  6. Spare lead always. Also most of my pockets have liver treat crumbs Sometimes the SWFs are too tricky and fast, but the big dogs always want to be helped Eta spare lead has to be the type that can be turned into a collar/slip lead
  7. I saw that quote too and felt queasy. Poor dogs, and poor kid! OH heard something about the older boy left the gate open and dogs went wandering so Riley went wandering too - heartstopping bit was when they found his pyjamas near the water's edge - but at least they're all ok.
  8. How long will you be gone? Have you looked into what's needed to come back?
  9. Jodie (Kelpie) loves her food, but it comes below tennis ball and cuddles. Stevie (Lab x GR) LOVES FOOD and people and cuddles and FOOD and walking and meeting people and FOOD and being silly and sleeping and FOOD and FOOD and by the way, don't slip in the droool... It's easier to train Stevie without food because she gets so distracted by it (or everyone else's bumbags of food) she doesn't think about the exercise we're supposed to be doing.
  10. I saw it on the news on tv. Just the sort of energetic dog that would drive most people mad, but is perfect for her job! What a great thing she was rescued and has ended up with such a good busy life!
  11. Hey Steve how come you already know he's going to be boss sheep? Can't he be a wether and maybe produce wool? It's very sad that the cutest lambies and kiddies have to grow up. They're such delightful creatures. Nice pup!
  12. Hey, maybe I'm wrong. It's possible there are several groups working on improving Campbelltown Pound
  13. Have a look at pound rounds beware on FB, I think they're sayin PR has taken over the Friends of Campbelltown Pound group. It's pretty rude to 'comment' on Goldie Rescue's change of cover photo by ignoring GRR and pleading for their own likes.
  14. I'm guessing the Poundcc group flooding Facebook is the same people as PR? Same incoherent over-emotive style. They're posting completely unrelated comments on other rescue group walls (eg GRR).
  15. Nah, she's always like that! She's the happiest waggiest smiliest dog ever. It's the drool that tells me when she's looking at food!
  16. Beautiful k9. Takoda is a lovely young lady and a credit to her family. I'm sorry Stevie was a little distracted by some kid's sausage sandwich. She can be a very nice girl when there's no food around Isn't it great to meet at these events! I'm so chuffed to have met your pup (and you, of course) Eta Noni does have the deepest eyes for such a young pup :) such a sweetie
  17. Do you drench or treat your cattle? Just wondering. I can see how tempting it is to have a 'natural' pup, but even if the pup never leaves your property parvo can be brought in. Horrible disease.
  18. Stevie and I hitched a ride with TD and had a lovely time meetings dogs and people! Amanda from LabraDOG rescue was very busy with her helpers and stall, and I put a few other faces to names including the wonderful K9angel! There was a sad lonely looking bearded bloke running a stall. Between the pure breed St Bernard's and JRTs, and all the rescue groups, this character was peddling 'miniature budgies'. WTF?
  19. Oi! What about no-name Noni! Pls give the sweet girl a thread! Not interested in pups until they play properly ;)
  20. Thanks TD and Danois. It was a horrible Christmas. Danois, your Milo was very lucky to be a monstrous huge cat! I got out of most of the threads and forums because they were making me so miserable, but every so often I check in with the Itchmo forum. There's almost a new alert every day in the US about food for dogs and/or cats, it's really scary, but they're very alert to new problems there and have a way of dealing with them. I'm still not confident that anything other than one alert neuro and a very small distribution network made the Orijen less devastating that it could have been, and we still don't know what the long-term effects on dogs and cats could be!
  21. www.anthrozoologyfoundation.org www.facebook.com/anthrozoology?ref=stream Does anyone here know much about this group? So far all I've seen is the facebook page and the website, but it looks very interesting! It seems like the kind of research that DOLers would be interesting in participating in - except we all already know how good having pets makes us feel :) "The Australian Anthrozoology Research Foundation was founded in May 2011 in response to a growing recognition within the scientific community that our modern lifestyle presents humans with unprecedented health challenges, requiring innovative approaches to disease prevention, treatment and management. Although modern medicine has cured numerous diseases, millions of Australians continue to suffer with chronic physical illnesses, mental distress and age-related diseases. Millions more are physically and mentally well, but fail to truly flourish due to stress, anxiety, loneliness and other problems associated with modern living conditions. Interactions with companion animals can profoundly enhance the health and wellbeing of humans. Dogs have been used for decades to assist the blind and are increasingly being trained to provide additional specialist services. These include assisting children with autism spectrum disorder as they struggle to master basic communication and social skills, monitoring blood sugar levels for those with diabetes, detecting certain cancers, and helping those with social phobia leave the confines of their home, sometimes for the first time in many years. Even without specialist training, a small army of volunteers visit nursing homes and hospitals with their pets each week, reporting miraculous effects on some of those who interact with the visiting animals. These include the very young and the very old, some of our most vulnerable and underserviced community members."
