  1. Stevie was perfect inside all day, but busting for the grass Ten hours is a long time. There was an unusual amount of black fur on our bed! The best thing is that her spot was clean and dry when I got home! So she's going to be inside again tomorrow. She's Lab x Goldie and has longish thick fur and undercoat, and a lot of jowl and spare neck skin. She is very beautiful though :) Her main allergy is to dust mites and a type of native grass we don't have. These spots mainly happen after she's been wet, in humid weather.
  2. I think we're going to have Stevie inside tomorrow, and Jodie outside. They'll survive the separation, although Jodie will be jealous. Stevie will probably just snooze anyway.
  3. All great ideas, thanks. But how do I stop Nurse Jodie the Kelpie from licking everything off? She tries so hard to keep Stevie's face and ears clean. She's cleaned off two goes of powder already tonight, even with a bit of wound guard near it. She doesn't care about bad tastes or pain, she sees it as one of her jobs
  4. Where has PR set up the STAR kennels? I can't see an address on their facebook site. Just wondering how many dogs they're going to keep there.
  5. Of course, today was the day I was going to try for Santa photos and now Stevie looks poxie and is in a grumpy mood after I shaved her spot.
  6. Thanks folks. I'll give the curash another go. Last year it didn't seem to do much except pack into a scab/cover of its own and the hotspot kept spreading, but it was quite a mucky and hidden one that had a while to fester. Eyeopener what is the pink spray? Stevie's on Big Dog BARF patties and meaty bones (plus random tuna, sardines, eggs, yoghurt, people scraps etc). The Canidea dry food is grain-free and she only has a couple of cups per week, when we're in a hurry or run out of ideas.
  7. Stevie's first hotspot of the season is on her cheek/jowl, and it's the size of a 20c coin already even though I swear there was nothing there last night when I was studying/adoring her beautiful face. I've shaved a bit and put neocourt on, but we usually end up getting antibiotics from the vet. I've tried the various zinc powders, tea washes and betadine over the years. She's had allergy treatments and is on a virtually grain-free diet. Any new ideas?
  8. We haven't tested the new toys from clean run yet but our best toys are the air dog squeaky tennis balls for Jodie and Vinnies $5 bag of teddy bears for Stevie. I gut and de-eye the bears but we have soooo many shapes, sizes and colours, and they usually go through the wash and rain and mud quite a few times before they're really dead. Jodie kills the squeaker in the air dog balls quite quickly but still prefers them over real tennis balls. TD what's the brand of bear you gave Stevie for her birthday? It's lasting very well considering both dogs are trying to kill the squeakers and play tug of war with its limbs!
  9. Wow there's heaps more stuff since I looked yesterday
  10. Yay got my second box today! Love the chew-guard elephant!
  11. Clean run free shipping. Good solid poo. Gourmet Treats Christmas selection - I wish I could find people food that looked and smelt as good. Dogs sleeping because they're content and tired after adventures, not because theyre bored. Having Stevie take off towards a Lab a hundred metres away at the park and then swing around in a big arc and COME BACK TO ME when I called her, in front of the obedience trainers before class started. Watching Jodie teach a crawling, just sitting up baby how to roll a tennis ball. Six months later, watching Jodie teach the baby to walk and throw the tennis ball.
  12. Well, my little man isn't on Canterbury Pound's website (http://canterburycouncilpound.webs.com/apps/photos/) which was updated yesterday, but there are lots of other good lucking pups of all shapes and sizes!
  13. Kelscats have a look at the Aussie Bulldog boy 'Winston' in Canterbury Pound at the moment. What a face! http://canterburycouncilpound.webs.com/apps/photos/photo?photoid=169435211 Pity about his skin allergies
  14. My order #1 arrived today Jodie was trying to swap her soggy old tennis ball for a new Air Squeek straight away. Stevie wanted the Kong frisbee, but then they both saw the Wubba monkey friend and suddenly it disappeared! The big safestix had hubby a little concerned. Stevie was very keen on that too. We've tried out the Easywalker harness but I think I should have got the next size up. And some instructions Now to try to remember what I ordered in #2, whether I need more, and which bits are safe for a tiny puppy and his littermates as a 'hello to the world' gift :D
  15. When will Fatso the Wombat start running around and working off some of this lard? Gotta start having more 'calories out' perhaps?
  16. I can't read the FB site either but my sympathies to the breeder/owner and poor pup.
  17. Is there a KFC or similar that way? Or something else strong smelling (our mangrove swamp seems to draw the dogs)
  18. Thanks T. One thing I'm guessing is that he won't quite be big enough to chuck behind the cargo barrier with the girls! I hope he turns out as handsome as he is cute but I'm just happy he's healthy and going well. Lara and Pete the Puppy-Wrangler did a good job this week !
  19. Thank you Tapua! He's turning into a puppy now! Squeeee
  20. Pauline has had other commitments and hasn't sent updates for a few days but I saw this on PetRescue FB and realised it's going to be Stevie and Sammy. Stevie has me trained to give her treats whenever she runs away and I call her back. Took me a long time to realise why she kept running away
  21. I can't answer the question about how our obedience club would accept a Sporn harness. They seem very keen on selling their half-check/martingale and halti collars and leads to newbies. It's one of the reasons it took ages for me to go back for a second lesson, after being told our check chain was cruel and unnecessary. Jodie (Kelpie) doesn't go to obedience but we love her Sporn harness. She wouldn't wear a halti no matter how carefully introduced, but seems to see the Sporn as her 'work' clothes and although she still pulls, she's more carefully listening to correction and is sensitive enough to it to not walk if it's still in the off-lead position of slightly tightening the bobble so she can't get tangled in it. It's made a massive difference to the strain on my shoulders and back and so Jodie's being walked more than she used to be. Stevie is perfect at loose lead walking now on flat collar, but Jodie's a bit 'special'.
