  1. I agree it was an atrocious thing for anyone to do to the little old bloke and his little dog. It was a bit of a worry though when the news reporter said 'such a little dog, how could anyone think such a cute little dog could do any harm' and then stuck her hand in for a scratch on the ears at the little dog being held by its owner. My two previous little Malt X's are the only dogs that have ever bitten me. A stranger doing that to Maggot when being held by me would have gone away with puncture wounds. Any kid who's done the dog awareness courses at school would know better than that reporter.
  2. Andrea is Maremma Rescue. Companions for Life - 02 6355 5004 or Mobile 0418 171896, or alternatively email [email protected] SNAP TD!
  3. Wrong. Best I can say. Been thinking about it for hours but can't work it out.
  4. I got both my parcels pretty quickly really. First one took longer than the second one but the storm intruded plus they ran out of an item and emailed me for instruction. It was all very clear until the parcels hit Oz, then I lost contact. Fingers crossed it will all come good for you soon!
  5. PetRescue has proudly announced on facebook the 150,000th rehome. Do they count dogs as being rehomed/rescued through PetRescue if you've also advertised elsewhere and received queries through that, and then move them to 'rehomed' on PetRescue afterwards? ETA what I mean is, is PetRescue aware that your enquiries are down through their site, or are they perhaps looking at overall 'pets moved' numbers and not seeing the detail?
  6. Thank you for clearing that up Rappie! Have you ever seen a case in a dog? How does it present?
  7. Australian Advocate for Cats specifically mentions Lung Worm It has the same active ingredients as Advocate for Dogs: 100 g/L Imidacloprid, 25 g/L Moxidectin for dogs; 100 g/L Imidacloprid, 10 g/L Moxidectin for cats. I don't know much about Rat Lungworm but I'm learning now and won't forget it! Here's a site that seems to be sponsored by Bayer in the UK
  8. Article/story about Rat Lungworm in Sydney children NSW Govt health fact sheet Article in Mosman Leader from May 2012 Previous DOL discussion - my apologies, I didn't find this on a search of DOL, just Google
  9. Is it very very rare or just not diagnosed?
  10. Best wishes to you and Bella, from our Jodie-Kelpie.
  11. I'm hoping someone with a lot more knowledge than me can answer these questions. I might start googling anyway.
  12. The owner of our local pet food place has asked me to spread the word about lung worm. I don't know much about it myself except what he told me, so I apologise if I get any of this wrong. Chris's little Pom girl recently died from lung worm infection. Chris employs a few vet students at his shop and remembered them talking about lung worm, so asked the vet to test for it but the vet (and others) all insisted it was extremely rare. It was only when she was crashing again after a blood transfusion that they did the test, and it was too late by then with complications setting in. Chris also has had to 'convince' (strongly demand) his GP to test him, his wife and their very young kids. A child died in Australia in the last year or so, and an older teenager has serious brain damage also attributed to lung worm. His GP hadn't heard of it at all. He says PLEASE pick up your dog and cat bowls so that there is no chance of slug trails being left in them. Keep puppies and kittens clear of snails and slugs. Advocate is the only preventer that mentions lung worm, but awareness, caution and vigilance are the best prevention. He's asking all his customers to spread the word.
  13. Ouchie, painful and very annoying. I hope it's not her 'hand'. I'm right-handed and broke my right wrist and discovered I can't do anything much with my left hand. Not even get dressed or brush my teeth or hair. Yucky itchy cast in summer, too. My sympathies to PS.
  14. Is Sally's colour common? I only picture Skyes as ash-blueish, like DeeDee. Sadly I didn't see a single Skye Terrier anywhere in Scotland, even on the isle. Many many Westies and one Scotty but no Cairn and no Skye. Very disappointing.
  15. I mean Kellyville petshop sells puppies and kittens. They are probably counting on making a profit somehow, even with donations to AWL. It's like PP last year having donations to rescue when often the rescues didn't know their name was being associated with PP. Just doesn't sit right with me
  16. That looks great :) and they donate $5 per package to the AWL But they sell puppies and kittens
  17. I saw that on Facebook from PetRescue, and even Ricky Gervais re-tweeted it. It's beautiful and says so clearly what so many of us feel. It seems to be connecting to many many people. ETA a lovely article about Fiona Apple's decision, from The Guardian: http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/musicblog/2012/nov/21/fiona-apple-tour-dying-dog
  18. I think it's funny that Sammy is more interested in the person and camera than the other dogs and the sticks and stones!
  19. Stevie's spot doesn't look as dry and is a bit puffy tonight, even after spending today inside. She's also got her irritated 'external urethra' problem again, which is a similar sort of 'not quite right' thing she gets. I think we'll end up at the vet tomorrow night for antibiotics if they both don't look better tomorrow. She's probably rubbing one against the other, as dogs do. I didn't even know what a hot spot was until DOL and now I know they're much more common than non-hot-spotters would realise. My sympathies to all who fight them!
  20. I know it's not rescue, but a worthy cause anyway: www.policelegacynsw.org.au Police Legacy has calendars for $25 featuring Dog Unit dogs :)
  21. New photo Sammy and his sisters meet 'Outdoors' Look at all the other legs outside the fence, watching the puppies
