  1. oh is that the one bringing greys down from Sydney via pound rounds?
  2. Isn't it amazing what you can get used to! When a previous lovely old dog snuck into the laundry for cat poo I seriously retched and couldn't go near poor dog for a day. Now as long as Stevie doesn't lick me straight away I'm ok
  3. Nice response HA but I just went looking for the herpyderp website to have a giggle before I realised you'd changed the name! That's a great Wiki page, too. 'Quantum Feadback'
  4. Yes. Stevie's not submissive. She just doesn't care about anything else when there's food in my hand!
  5. Stevie is the bomb-proof 'therapy' dog that was overused at obedience training to be the stooge. She would just sit there and cop it - barking, growling, the occasional humping ( ) even though it was supervised by the 'trainer', I eventually realised I had to say No - this is not good for my dog - she's not comfortable in this situation any more and I don't want to break her. Sadly she was about the only bomb-proof dog in the higher class!
  6. I was brought up to believe that any tick collar or treatment is just to slow down the ticks. Nothing works better than the twice-daily thorough going-over with finger tips (and eyes for the trickier crevices).
  7. Must have a whinge. The pups are six weeks old today and I've received NO NEW PHOTOS! Nothing for at least three days : What sort of breeder am I dealing with here??
  8. All of this sounds great. One or two dogs at a time, you're responsible for them totally, all good. But weren't you also looking into charity status and having other foster carers helping you? That's when it all gets tricky. I understand wanting to do your own thing - I've been frustrated as a foster carer myself when I knew the dog better than the organisation - but you're either a private rescue, or you're part of the Greyhound rescue landscape as a whole and need to work out where you fit with it. Good luck, sadly there's nothing easy in rescue except finding the dogs.
  9. Description of a weed: a plant in the wrong place. Description of a fox: an animal in the wrong place. The damage of both to the environment they move into is catastrophic. Foxes are sneaky vile little critters who get into places where a bullet cannot go, but the carbon monoxide finds them and off to sleep they go. The natural environment needs this to happen. Souff Yay, Souff's back Welcome, I've missed you
  10. *imagining fat Teebs crawling around a backyard looking for holes in the fence*
  11. It is at Riverstone! Whereabouts Lillypilly? I've been trying to search for it because I'm a sticky-beak and there aren't many details available on the net. I was wondering if they've taken over somebody's kennels or built new ones (and presumably put a DA/BA through Council)?
  12. Jodie would go through every red light just to get from A to B because B means BALL. Stevie would get stuck at KFC drive-through.
  13. If you get stuck and they're dog friendly and not escape artists they are welcome to stay with us - Sammy will still be very young but we've managed more. Just off the M5.
  14. Best wishes to both of you, Helen and Diane. I grew up in a bad tick area and remember well the mad dashes to the vet with a tick affected pet (and the horrible feeling when you have one yourself). I've seen them inside cheeks/jowls, anus and so deep inside the ears that the vet found it by chance with the ear-torch-thingy. Horrible little things.
  15. This all good. When I had three dogs, I had three types of dry food, one type of wet (Big Dog BARF) and lots of other 'raw' type stuff such as eggs, fish, vegies and meaty bones. Poo patrol becomes a BIG part of life when testing different foods :)
  16. Thanks Perse and Rozzie, I hadn't seen this before at all. What a lovely bond they have. She's a clever girl but he's a very good dog too!
  17. It makes the hair rise on the back of my neck! They're talking about the real hard cases here - possibly DA, HA dogs that the other rescue groups won't or can't take - as if they're friendly little kittens. And even kittens can scratch and bite. I have to admit it's very cleverly written though, no matter how much it grates with me too.
  18. Blech I looked into the STAR thing. https://www.facebook.com/SanctuaryTails Sanctuary Tail Animal Rescue. Another incarnation
  19. Sickening. Who are they appealing to with that language?
  20. I've had two Malt x Shih and they were both stubborn little s*** with a lot of attitude! Both food/resource guarders and both yappy when they met other strange dogs. Both from very undiscoplined backgrounds. Compared to 'training' my LabX and Kelpie, they both needed a lot of time, love and strict rules. They just weren't used to being dogs and seemed to react positively to having rules, even if they grumbled. They had huge hearts and could be very loving too. Good luck! Toughest dogs I've ever dealt with.
  21. PS did you see the photo of Sammy 'unstacked'? Apparently he's the class clown
  22. Nah, I should be able to do it on the way home from work. Thanks anyway!
  23. I might be able to, tomorrow evening/night, if you don't have any other offers.
