  2. Does anyone else think it's time to ask Troy to lock this thread so the lessons can be learned by others, but so that it doesn't get any nastier? *disclaimer - I'm thinking very nasty thoughts and trying not to type them - type and delete... type and delete...
  3. That's odd. Our local council hires out cat traps so nuisance cats can be caught and taken to the pound. If they're feral they're euthed immediately, but if they're chipped or reasonably well behaved they have a chance of going home or being rehomed. Council can't keep up with the demand for traps!
  4. No. If you were really in it 'for the dogs', you'd have spent more than a couple of weeks on the exercise. Some people take years to make sure they're going to do it right, they don't jump in blindly. It has NOT been good for the dogs - either these two individuals, or rescue/greyhounds as a whole. Sorry, I was being as nice as possible but I'm not sure about the tone of the bolded bit. You think it's GOOD of you to pass on the donations? And you didn't ask the other rescue group for anything? I would hope you're paying them something for helping you out! Also you should realise that $500 for two dogs isn't an awful lot to be paying out in rescue.
  5. I've just realised it's only been two weeks since this thread was started. What a rollercoaster for you and your family and the dogs, Greylvr! Good luck on rehoming these two (if they're suitable for rehoming) and then have a break, take a big breath before starting again. I'd suggest you update your facebook and the 'other website' pages as well, otherwise you might end up with pressure on you from PR to take more dogs.
  6. Ha! Three-four years I wish! Perhaps you could call Amanda at LabraDOG rescue - I don't know if she sends dogs interstate often but she might have some ideas for you. Have you considered a Golden Retriever, if they are available? Longer fur but many similarities in nature.
  7. Sammy will get a lot of attention - so will Stevie, Jodie and our cat. If I'm slack in cuddles I'm sure my neighbours will more than make up for it :)
  8. Looks like I've finally got myself blocked from pound rounds on Facebook so I can't look back through it. They appear to be suggesting getting a poundie out to give as a Christmas present
  9. I think my very polite question has been deleted and I've been blocked. Less than ten minutes!
  10. OMG And the dogs they're advocating are the poor leftover Amstaffy types from Blacktown Pound (where many rescues will have already assessed them). Yep, sure, everyone should get a 30kg Amstaff for their random Christmas present. Maybe I should give one to my sister, surely it will get on ok with her Iggy and three cats and all the visiting foster kids! I have so much sympathy for these dogs but more for the unsuspecting adopters who believe the sales pitch!
  11. Pugs welcome, they're always worth a laugh! Lunchtime Saturday 16th Feb. I'll start a list and send some PMs
  12. TDierikx has claimed first cuddle rights! She's given us a collar, some puppy-sized soft toys and a loan of her crate already :) I am serious about having a DOL meet-up at my place - maybe February? Any inner westies, south westies, nice Lab owners, well-behaved dogs and dog-friendly kids. NINE SLEEPS TO GO
  13. She's been mentioned previously on the Pound Rounds facebook site but I can't find it now and don't remember the details. There may have been some malice in the reports made to RSPCA.
  14. Excellent plan! Best wishes to you all and thanks for the hard work.
  15. The dog park at Long Reef is pretty good for purebreds - especially poodles and vizslas - but I've never seen such a variety as you saw today! Wow!
  16. TOO MANY Also haven't had any photo updates Maybe he's turned really ugly and the breeder doesn't want him seen. I can't believe she's just busy or something, how could that happen at this time of year? Ten sleeps until we meet him
  17. I know of one rescue group that tried very hard to treat two dogs that came in with heartworm.
  18. I do a combined tick/intestinal/heartworm every month. We have lots of mozzies, and for the last couple of years have had fleas (I THINK I've got them sorted since old Maggot dog passed away, he seemed to be a flea-magnet). Rats and stray cats come through our yard, we walk around areas with lots of untreated dogs and at dog parks with random dogs, and Stevie has a cute habit of picking up cat poo anywhere she can get it.
  19. Yes. That brick wall you've been hitting your head against doesn't get any softer does it! Hope you're having a good break and keeping well.
  20. I think it indicates that Labs, Goldies etc really LOVE dog parks and socialising!
