Sammy The Anti-gardener And His Big Weekend
Katdogs replied to Katdogs's topic in General Dog Discussion
We're looking forward to seeing you Pauline. You won't believe how clever and funny our big boy is now - as long as no other dogs are around Minimax our trips to Sydney Park can be pretty random, especially now uni's back and obedience is on Saturday afternoons. I'll certainly let you know next time TD I think Harper and Sammy together would be sent to the naughty corner! -
Oh, how lovely

Sammy The Anti-gardener And His Big Weekend

So this is what Sammy got up to on Friday: Luckily I found the pot itself and the other half of the tennis ball under that bed. I don't think my lovely rock orchid will recover I forgot I had stashed some unwell potplants under a shrub until they recovered or died properly - but Sammy found them! He has nice new shiny big-boy teef coming through now. On Saturday we went to Obedience Training. What a shock! There were so many puppies and of course he was almost the biggest (though not the oldest). Every good thing he knows how to do went out of his head completely when he saw the dogs, people, treats/food, and the long grass hiding food, and puddles everywhere! So we're just Green until we do a lot more practice with distractions. He's such a sweetie though. The trainer asked me to stand near a couple of nervous dogs so that they could see how happy Sam was and eventually they got up enough courage to move a little towards him. He has the most submissive but happy tail-waggle in the group! Sunday we all went to Sydney Park where Sam followed Stevie into the puddles. His recall was amazingly good except when he met a completely mad Whippet pup the same age as him! Five month old Whippet zoomies are so funny! Sam was absolutely wrecked when we came home, he had almost an hour of sleep before he had the energy to get up and attack Stevie again! Hopefully today he's having a good rest. We've locked Stevie in the house to give her new hotspots a chance to repair without being chewed by Sam or licked by Jodie. The sad news to report is that Sammy is a MUTANT My hubby has been trying so hard to teach him to shake hands but it turns out Sam is goofy-footed - a natural leftie I don't think that's something that can be fixed during the desexing operation He won't ever be able to be shown with a fault like that! -
She's smart enough for HDs I think!

This And this! I saw it with a young person the other day and she told me it was about how to love your life even if you have to try harder than other dogs or people.
-
Charlie was certainly an inspiration and touched so many other lives, whether we met him (I think I did at Bunnings once :) ) or not. Thank you so much for sharing. You are wonderful people.
-
Oh Perse So sorry. They all take parts of our hearts with them - but then again, they make our hearts so much greater as they pass through our lives.
-
Wsibs this dreadful day has been hanging over your heads for so long You've handled it with such grace and love. I've been reading about Charlie for years and all I can say is how much I admire him for his cheekiness and spunk, and you for your love and care for him. What a lucky little man Charlie was that he spent his life with you.

Stevie is 7yo lab x Goldie and getting her a lab puppy has been wonderful, although a bit of a shock. She's fitter and more active than ever. Our only problem is that Sammy Puppy loves Stevie more than us so we're working on attention and also making sure our 7yo Kelpie doesn't lose out too much. If we'd waited much longer I might not have brought in a pup. Jodie Kelpie is getting grumpier and Stevie might have found it all a bit hard.

http://www.wherearethepetfoodchampions.com Quick update Rocky's still at about the 90% mark. She's not very active and certainly doesn't climb onto roofs (which is a good thing). We don't know what the long term implications will be, but her life these days is good. It was a really awful Christmas in 2008 though.

Happy birthday sweet girl I reckon you'll get lots of nice cuddles and cake!

Looks like a all-star-rating dog food. http://www.dogfoodadvisor.com/?s=+Orijen http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/dog_food_reviews/showcat.php?cat=all&stype=1&si=Orijen Wish there's a place in Aust that we could try some of them out. What it did to my cat and a couple of hundred others was truly horrific. I'm just extremely grateful mine was one of the few to repair and recover as much as she did. If it's not irradiated, there's a huge risk to Australia's fishing industry (and other agricultural industries).

Does Anyone Have Room For A 15yo Goldie Girl?

The gorgeous Annie is now appearing on GRR's facebook page. What a sweet looking old lady -
When you have paper clips and other tricky little things stored in your office desk drawer in little blue bags and don't think it's gross (hey, they were in my handbag when I needed them!)

Opening a HUGE can of worms here and preparing to get massively flamed :p Partly it is how they stack them but partly the way they breed them too due to overangulation. The way they stack them so basically have their hocks touching the ground makes them look weak and unbalanced (personally). Sorry stack is basically to me how you stand a dog in the show ring. I've seen lots of threads about this over the years and not being a GSD fan (sorry, bad experience as a kid) and not knowing much about showing I don't get involved. It just seemed odd that some of the other dogs looked 'tentative' but more exaggerated in the photo of the GSD. Perhaps the photos were all taken at the end of a long day. I'm interested enough now to go and look at the GSD videos to see how they walk - a couple I've seen at the park look crouched down and not really running smoothly. Do they actually have to 'run' at the shows or just walk, jog and stand?

Some interesting photos there, especially of the breeds I've never seen before! I didn't know there were two types of Beagle - 13" and 15". Some of the call names are great especially Bob the Stafford and Ian the Dalmatian! I also really liked seeing drool on the Dogue and a person in the photo with the Lab  Jed, can you please explain 'stacking' to a non-showy? Some of the dogs end up looking unbalanced or unsure of themselves - 'tentative' - to me, as if their hind ends aren't as strong as their front. Is this part of the 'stacking' process or just the way the breeds are meant to look? In particular the GSD but also the Irish Setter, for example. Even the Golden Retriever looks a bit different in style to those I've seen here (admittedly I haven't seen many in show condition).

Lucky Grayson! Having his ears and teeth fixed will make him a lot more comfy! How did he get so fat if his teeth are yuck? Hope you have another 13 or so years with him ;)

Sammy The Anti-gardener And His Big Weekend

I also missed the beautiful sight of Sammy when he's standing and staring (almost pointing) at something amazing like a Galah on a wire. He's so straight and square and gorgeous! So you'll just have to have the cheeky-boy photo instead. -

So funny when I have two flapping mad dogs running towards me then skidding to a stop to sit and wait for food! I just wish I could take better photos. -

RAIN! It's been a big week for us so the dogs have been home alone more than usual. They're a bit stir-crazy but every time I thought 'walk' today the rain would get heavier! So I togged up ready to walk in the rain and the instant I stepped outside it stopped Lucky Labs - there were big clean puddles everywhere! Sammy's recall is 100%. We walked our usual area then a bit further and further again. He's totally crashed now (on top of his still-wet Stevie) but he had a fantabulous time skitching Ibis and doves and ducks  -
I've been guilty of double-checking with vets about this One of my rescues was a very healthy young boy, maybe a year old. His sac was bigger after desexing than before - for a couple of weeks, then it all settled. I've also had a 14ish year old male desexed and within a month or so his sac had shrunk right back down.
