Ivermectin Sensitivity & Desexing
alanglen replied to Dame Aussie's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Ivermectin, nor any of it's family drugs would be used in a desexing procedure, it's quite specifically for parasite control so you are quite safe!!! Best of luck for the test anyway! -
Aqua ear is usually considered a bit too drying for a dogs ear, epi-otic is the product usually used for routin ear drying and cleaning post swimming. Or you could try PAW gentle ear cleaner for something which stings less (natural product) and appears to work just as well.

Protective/possessive Foster Dog
alanglen replied to jaybeece's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Have you chatted to the group with whom Fender is a Foster? They may have a trainer that can help. -
That was me! We did very well and the girls had a ball! One of the girls blew the ring as she took too long on the dog walk wiggling her bum for the crowd! We came home with armfulls of food and prizes and so I had a ball. Definately be back for games next year if the girls are still keen! But yes, shame about the car, shame about the police not ever actually arriving to see it and the showgrounds trying to lock my friend out with our 3 dogs and gear whilst I sorted the car and glass problem out!

alanglen replied to Luke W's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Any chance you were there yesterday for photo's?? Fingers crossed! -
Yeah, great to see their names up there! We had a brilliant day, quite succesful but the dogs had a ball! Shame my car got broken into during the afternoon (whilst parked in a disabled car park) and my new navigator stolen but we thoroughly enjoyed the games!

Help Needed For Second Opinion
alanglen replied to sheenygirl's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
My heart really goes out to you, such a hard spot to be in, but where there is a keen attitude and a loving mum there is usually still something else to try! I would reccomend the acupuncture, massage and hydrotherapy very strongly. The nutritional supplements are a must as is regular (monthly) usage of cartrophen. Keep her comfortable on the anti-inflamm for a while, plenty of dogs live happily on them for a long time and it will buy her comfortable time for you to find her other help. Always best to see a specialist and they will also talk about the option of hip replacement. She is only young, she would get many years out of the surgery and whilst it is costly, I have seen it be a magic cure-all fix many times now. Stem cells will be a great option but probably not in time to help your girl at all, there is still so much research to be done. Start finding yourself a great vet acupuncturist and a well qualified/trained massage/myotherapist/hydrotherapit etc and get her onto a program. There is definately hope out there and lots of things that will help her and lots of us have been down that track before. Thinking of you both and feel free to PM if there is anything else you need. Pneumonia/Respiratory problems are common in BBD and you need to be careful, especially with a baby. Where did you get him, if from a breeder then chat to them, did he fly to you? The snotty nose can easily get inhaled as their throat structure is quite unique and predisposes them to lots of respiratory problems. Keep up the nebulising and best of luck!

Which Heartworm/tick/flea Stuff
alanglen replied to I Love my Dog's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Depends a lot on your area and what the ticks etc are sensitive to. In Victoria I use Sentinel spectrum as ticks are not a big issue, but you need to know what is most effective locally. The vast majority of any of these good products are monthly. -
If it helps, my nearly 9 month old chockie was starting to get a little bored with obedience too! Never forget, it's meant to be fun! She does everything beautifully but is just getting bored, we have startng to reduce the training and go back to puppy games and the enthusiasm is rapidly returning!

Unfortunately whilst I would love one of those tap dispensers, my labbies would work that out in a flash and have it going all day! They already know how to turn the taps on if they are not extra hard and tight! Nicely flooded yard very quickly and with water restrictions!!

Yep, I always put in an envelope, good assurance the entries are there and so much easier for the trial secretary! I have had friends drive many miles to trials and discover that australia post misplaced entries!
-
There's a few surprises in there! Thanks for the results! Apparently lots of the dogs had trouble with the crowd so close to the ring.
-
Thank-you! I would appreciate it!

Any idea of agility results from today?
-
Honestly I really wouldn't read too much into it all, two girls smell funny from cleaning products, anaesthetics etc and now they are both sore and not 100% themselves, it very unlikely to last! Once stitches are out, I'm sure all will be forgotten on the beach walks!

Drugs For Increasing Appetite
alanglen replied to Zhou Xuanyao's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Personally, only sick animals need periactin to stimulate appetite, if you thinks it's that serious then see your vet and get her checked, that's what they are trained for. Otherwise work on the training aspect and be wary of internet suggestions for drugs! -
Or try Aquapaws, www.aquapaws.com.au They advertise on here and definately sell the supports.

alanglen replied to PossumCorner's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Fantastic weather for the lure coursing, yet again! Thought I might post a few snaps from today! -
or try RSPCA Burwood, they have a young and an older puppy preschool. Your pup would be the perfect age for the second lot of classes.

Time for the vets, asap!

alanglen replied to 2tollers's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Which dogs have come down from Ballarat? We did exceptionally well for our crew (I do own Labradors, the standards aren't as high!!!), and so very very pleased! Off to watch the finals today in the rain and steward in the rain, did I mention the weather opened up!! -
Pippi & Jess - Come In Here
alanglen replied to 2tollers's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Have just been out on the grounds this afternon helping to set up etc and the ground has coped fantastically well considering it's state last weekend. The rings look great, it's super organised and it should be a fantastic weekend! There are some areas still wet and soggy underfoot but the rings are much much better than Wang for safety so fingers crossed for weather like today!! Good luck to all entered! -
The Kelpie site looks great, lots of choice and very cheap, are the buckles strong?
