While cancer is high in Rottweilers I can assure you that LOTS of entire Rottweilers have died from cancer - NOT just desexed Rottweilers. I agree with your breeder about waiting until the dogs have matured before desexing. Always best to get another opinion before agreeing to any type of surgery - after having personal run ins with a few vets who are very fast to suggest surgery, I would never rush in to any surgery (except for em c sections) unless I had specialist opinions. I agree with Andisa that entire Rottweilers die from cancer all forms not just desexed Rottweilers having 8 of my 9 Rotts dying from it. I wish it was that easy. The same with any surgery I would go to a specialist before doing anything.

I feel your pain Saffioraire. Iam unsure of what Iam going to do with this litter pups my girl is expecting in Nov. I have asked a number of breeders what they do as Cavaliers are a very popular breed, there seems many backyarders and of course the cross breeders. I don't want any of my pups to fall into the wrong hands. Most of the people I have talked to do work from a contract and some refund their puppy people the desexing cost and have had positive results with doing this. For me Iam a bit like you and feel desexing them before they leave is the answer what worries me is the problems they may face as a result of doing this. I wasn't really thinking behaviour problems more urinary type or other health problems. Because Iam asking people what they do I have had a few stories of dogs desexed at a younger age and one bigger cross mastiff girl had urine leakage all her life and was medication that didn't help much. I don't know for a cavalier being smaller this would apply? I met this lovely lady at the vets a few weeks back for Sunni's prog test and really some of the general public have know idea. She was there because her JRT had started bleeding and she didn't at first know why or what was wrong with her. I thought to myself how could you not know but there are people out there like her and how easy it would have for her get an accidental mating. She was going to desex her which was great but had she not gone to the vet to find out more puppies that potentially unwanted. Ive got the vet coming today and I thought I might ask as they do alot of rescue pups and dogs what they think. I will be interested also in what others are doing..

That sound great Ill have to get some spring clips as I don't have a door on mine. OK, I'll try again ;) PS. I have a husband but he's even more useless than me :D We have the spirals but if my OH was here it would be cable ties as Iam hopeless at putting things together. I have had female dogs all my life and have never had to wipe them regardless that they live a normal dogs life which includes lying in the dirt, swimming etc you should not being doing this. Definately take her to the vet if you think she has an infection but I would stop wiping her with wipes as your probably causing the iritation there.

Iam so sorry Griff I also lost my old girl just before Christmas and it was a bit of a shock even though I knew the day would come, she was my last Rottie Rest In Peace Sinna run free with the other Rotts

I have had a dog with epilepsy and the onset is usually around 2yrs because he is older and 13yrs is a wonderful age I would take him to the vet for a checkup as it could be an underlying problem such as a tumor or cancer which is causing the fits. Sorry I don't want to upset you but thats more likely than just epilepsy.. if he has never had fits before in his life.

I have nothing to offer in the way of experience with this, sorry I really hope she will be ok I have been involved with dogs many years and it does worry me that we give them so much medication in high doses Iam assuming that this was for heartworm coverage for 12 months? I have always given my dogs (rottweilers) heartworm tablets daily and I have never had a dog develop heartworm,or a dog become sick because of this type of medication, so I know it works. Since getting my two cavaliers I have been giving them monthly heartworm (guardian) which also covers worms and I feel this enough. I know there are tablets that cover heartworm, worms and fleas, but if your dogs does not have fleas why give them this once a month, I only treat for fleas when they have them ,as I think this medications can build up which is not good for them when you add in their yearly vacs. Maybe next year when this vaccination is out of her system start her daily or monthy heartworm, harder to remember I know but maybe a better alternative for her. Sorry I was assuming they thought this was brought on by giving her the proheart 12, maybe not, what do they think brought this on? -
OMG I can't believe that burn your poor Beau! Why were they using a hot water bottle for hip x rays?It is bizarre did they say why? I missed the first posting so sorry if its been asked before. Edited to say I had a number of my dogs hip scored and never had a problem.Especially with a water bottle!
