  1. Thanks guys! I'm going to get the malaseb and pyohex until her yeast clears up. What's Saint Francis and Oakwood? Do you have a link?
  2. Was thinking of getting teh combo packs most places offer. but her usual conditioning.. wats the diff between aloveen and resi-soothe?
  3. Hi all, I've run out of conditioner and was hoping someone could give me some reccs. What's the diff between Aloveen, Episoothe, Pyohex, Resisoothe... My bub has a slight skin yeast infection with seasonal allergies. Thanks!
  4. I actually got this tip from an ex-vet who works in my company. I was getting ventricular tacchycardia pills (100 mexilitine capsules for $60 and 20 sotalol tablets for $22). I got a script and got it from my pharmacist and it only cost me $28 for the mexilitine and 10 for 60 sotalol tableets!! then the doctor prescribed some antibiotics for Hazel which made her throw up and then he dispensed another type which cost me $77 for 15 tablets! i wanted a script but he insisted that he had already dispensed the medication. My colleague explained to me that the vets dont usually like us getting pills from a pharmacy because they makea big profit from dispensing the medication as well. sucks right?
  5. Hi Guys, Thanks for all the info rysup. I think so as well for the in range values. maybe if i could compare the units of the one u posted?
  6. Thank you all for all your support. She's as good as she can be.. just a little overprotective and worried about her now while I'm at work. but will be checking on her every few hours. Rysup: not sure about her calcium levels< but if i look at the blood test, she did test for Calcium which was 2.62mmol/L and the levels are (1.9-2.9)? no idea about her breeding at all. I couldn't even find the last vet she used to go to ...
  7. Hi all, not much news but yes hazel is home. she's still just tired and witrh the weather, it doesn't help... so the nes isn't that much better except that just keep giving her her medication.. her heart sorta seems better but still abnormal... so.. not good.. she's almost not as completely back to herself as she was before... and i'm just overworreid i guess.... the funy thing is her bum is kinda itchy cos its shaved and it's the shaved bit of her tail is tickling the shaved part of her bum its quite funny.. she'll just suddnely get up and go to another spot.
  8. Hi Rysup, That's great information. as I know u breed keeshonds. I'm at work now, so i'll email you more when I get home. but i'll try and get some results and stuff so i can be more specific with me when i get home. perhaps u can tell me whether I have anythign to worry about. I'm afraid I don't know her pedigree. is there anyway to find out? I only got her 2 years ago and she's about 7 now.
  9. Aw, thank you guys so much. Went in to see her before work this morning. She seemed almost like her usual self. When she saw us, she was barking in the cage as if to say "let me out!" then we kinda just walked around, she seemed keen to want to go home. Her ECG isn't quite normal as yet. but its better than before. and she seems pretty stable so.. *fingers crossed* she may be able to come home tonight. Thanks all.. after this, we have to consider whether we want to do an MRI and then a liver surgery.... *kicking myself for not getting insurance*
  10. Just got back from the hospital. She seems almost like herself again, she's eating again because they're feeding her chicken and she lovvveesss chicken. the ultrasound on her abdomen found enlarged lymph nodes an a 2-3 cm lesion on her liver. so we have some things to consider whether we want an MRI done before we do a liver biopsy/remove etc.. but first we have to focus on her heart. because she has almost no normal heartbeat. the vet explained her ecg waveforms and comparison and all.. sigh...
  11. hi all, just a quick update as the specialist has just called. She's had an ultrasound of the heart and an ECG done. and they think she had a syncopy or something? and they observed a really abnormal rhythm from the ECG and says its ventricular tachycardia where the pulses which are suppoesd to originiate from the SA node are orginating from the ventricle in multiple locations. They're starting her on something that sounds like "Lignacone" and they said that it may or may not work and it may or may not have a worse reaction.
  12. Thanks guys. Cockerlover: it was frightening to see her like that. I was so freaked out i immediately called the hospital.... and to see her eyes like that and not knowing what to do. Rang up this morning. the diarrhea was darkish brown last night and she hasn't diarrhead overnight.. which is a good thing. They've noticed that her heartbeat is slightly irregular (which we thought was always a known thing) but since the specialist is having a look at her, they will let him know (since i'm paying $170 for consultation) although an ECG will cost about 300 more. IT's weird though. Wanted to get her pet insurance when we got her 2 years ago, but we were advised against it because we hadn't had her as a puppy and were told that there would be alot of exclusions cos we didn't know what pre-existing conditions she had. oh well.. too late now.. we're up to 2000 bucks now..that's exluding the ECG and mostlikely tonight's stay.. i just miss her.. and i want her to be ok. and i want her to come home
  13. THank you all for ur support. We spent an hour earlier today at the hospital just spending time with her, patting her, watching her sleep. She's on antibiotics and its made her quite drowsy. so she was just sleeping while we were there. that was at about 2.30 3ish. Just gave them a call and they said that her continuous diarrhea has stopped and she has only had one episode of diarrhea since we left. Which is better but still unusual. Anyway tomorrow we're going to go ahead with the ultrasound so we can get some sort of idea of what's going on. will keep updating...
  14. hmm.. feel kinda odd that no one else has offered any advice? Must be out on this beautiful sunday. Called up twice today already. Bloodwork has come back and all except liver enzyme seem normal. So we're looking to get an ultrasound done on Monday with the specialist. She has had this weird "strawberry jame" diarrhea (the doctor calls it) and it keeps runing so she can't come home yet. Also she has weird enlarged lymph nodes on her back legs. so. hopefully the ultrasound will fix all. wil be going in to visit her today.
  15. No, as far as we know, everything was as normal. she is an inside dog so she's hardly outside in the grass. no pesticides around my house no bugs at my place.. well they're watching her and doing a blood work.. hope its just a once off... thanks for the thoughts
  16. HI all, I've read through all the posts.. But I didn't know where else or who else to tell. and I know you are all very supportive and a wonderful community. Hazel just had her first seizure tonight. She kind of just vomited all her food went into a corner and looked like she was sulking. I went up to her and she kind of just fell into my lap kind of stiff, eyes wide open and glassy and her legs stiff but slightly paddling. Her stomach was sort of pulsing in an exageratted motion. not sure if that makes sense. I immediately called the emergency vet to find out where they were. and while I was on the phone it stopped. Lasted about 40 seconds. She also lost control of her bowels and after she seemed really exhausted. We just dropped her off at the hospital, they cleaned up her bum (cos of her hair) and she is on "seizure watch" tonight. I just feel so scared, not sure what the outcome is going to be. If the full blood work comes up with nothing, is that good or is that bad? Can't wait till morning to hear the results. :D
  17. I've already posted this in the pinned section.. but was hoping to get a response here.. We're taking our keeshond up to smiths lake for a trip and heard that its possibly a high tick area? I usually live in Sydney near the city and we've never had a problem (we still put preventatvies: advantix). I'm slightly paranoid about our trip and was hoping someone could advice me on what I should do before and after etc etc.. I'm also planning to let her swim so.. we treated her with advantix last week. our trip will be christmas day. should we treat her again before the trip? or should we rewash her and treat her after her swim? Is it better to use frontline spray or add in permoxin and use advantix?

  19. during winter because my dog is an indoor dog, we only bathe her once every 2 months with brushing daily.... However, I have bathed her twice in one week since getting EPO and she doesn't seem to be getting better no doubt, I will persevere!
  20. Hi guys, I showered her today... using vet grade.... blow dry for 2 hours + she seemed to really enjoy it (usually she just walks away) but this time she kinda just stood there, sat down... but tonight... (i bathed her at 11, now its 9pm) she's back to her licking of the feet, scratching of the face....
  21. My shampoo's arrived!!! shower time tonight... will let u guys know how it goes
  22. hi Guys i jsut got back.. was about 15 minutes late... but Peter was so nice.. He put hazel on the table.. and said her shoulders and front legs are good, but she's got a slipping patella in her left knee irregardless, thats hereditary.. and I don't realy need to worry about it right now.. anyway she has a hooked tendon and a pinched sciatic nerve... and i think it was quite bad.. cos he waas oohing and aahing.. there was a guy with 2 greyhounds waiting after me.. i think i was really late he asked me how i heard about him..and i told him that he came highly recommended.., he said he's dealt with alot of paralysed dogs... I'm so embarassed... I forgot to bring enough cash.. i only brought $20 and it was $25... next time i go i'll pay him $30. but he's a realy nice guy. was explaining to me everything.. and i think he new I was kind of worried about her, so he kept reassuring me that its ok. told me how to massage her to get her blood circulating, gave me an aspirin as well... i think it has really helped because although he mentioned it.. i didn't think it was abig deal... when hazel's been walking around.. her tail doesn't go up unless its wagging.. he said cos the nerve was pinched... so now i notice its up even when she's not wagging her butt... I always thought it was just because she was hot and bothered because it still was up when she was wagging her tail.... it does seem to be sitting higher up now.. not sure if i'm just being biased He wants to see her again in 2 weeks, and then every 2 months... I think it's good, he's so nice.. and i mean i'll be taking her every month just to be safe... Even though it took me 1 hour to get there and only 20 minutes for him to see her.. I think its really worth it.. and he seems nice... highly recommend it to anyone with older dogs.. he also said I could ring him anytime i had questions... so all is good, thanks for the recommendation guys.. I kidna feel like I shoulda asked about it earlier... and taken her there earlier.... well better late than never!!
  23. After ages and ages, I've made an appointment to see Peter on Monday!!
  24. Wow westiemum, his coat looks so shiny!! just wondering how much postage costs... dolers, do u usually get the HUGE 5 litres? or jsut smal amounts?
