  1. I believe all states including WA now have to provide registered pedigrees with ALL their pups. If you do not have the pup's papers, but just copies of the parents papers, you have bought from a backyard breeder.
  2. The BARF diet recommends 70 percent raw meaty bones.
  3. I don't use it, but would suggest a three monthly Drontal all wormer and flea meds as needed.
  4. yes, Homebrand too! A few dollars for 100 tabs, same ingredient as Dimmitrol. Considered by some as safest for pregnant bitches (if you use a preventative on pregnant bitches)
  5. I don't understand why the vet would suggest you use two different heart wormers simultaneously.
  6. I wouldn't trust any of those supermarket wormer. Apparently they don't do a great job. What do you mean "apparently" There's nothing wrong with Dimmitrol, you just have to remember to give it every day. What do you mean by Spectrum? if you mean Sentinel Spectrum, it does heartworm so why would consider the needle as well? I don't know of anyone who uses the needle anymore, too many risks.
  7. Aren't Pointers bird dogs? Might not be too many happy budgies What about a Cavalier? Maybe specify a bit more what you want in a dog. http://www.dogzonline.com.au/breeds/puppies.asp Should add, do not feel obliged to rescue a dog. Breeders often have older dogs for sale as well as pups
  8. And don't soak it unless it is designed to be soaked, ie Rehydratable
  9. Pups can regulate their body temp from 2-3 weeks onwards. Rehydratable Puppy Advance would be a good choice, and some chicken mince. Puppy milk/goats milk/puppy porridge would be nice and would no doubt go down well too.
  10. Milk bucket who is a milk bucket? So Tonymac, did you write that essay then?
  11. Strange vet you have, as he/she is contradicting themselves. Why would you risk it?
  12. Chicken mince should be raw minced frames with the bone included. I would not feed raw beef as it does not have calcium. feeding raw meat on the bone means the calcium to phosphorous ratio is balanced. Onions should never be fed though I am sure there are dogs who have guts as tough as old boots who become immune to them, but they can cause blood disorders. Most people here don't seem to think much of Hills but there are hundreds of threads to read here on different dry foods available. As long as is good quality puppy food, that's fine.
  13. Wrong. The PBS does not cover drugs that are prescibed to animals through chemists. Last time I looked animals do not have a medicare card or pension or health care cards. Well sorry, I never said I was RIGHT. It was a guess. Actually you were right Kharn.
  14. Vets don't get the government subsidy for drugs.
  15. She's too young. She should still be with her littermates and her Mum.
  16. Dependant on the reason why they have not dropped. There may be obstruction ie. they might be buried in fat or other fibrous tissue, the cord may not be long enough, the testicles may not be devloping normally, - lots of reasons. If the dog is a pet only, give him till 6 months then desex, if a show dog, hold your breath and hope for the best Some dogs mature later than others. The vet won't know till he opens the dogs up, (unless he can easily feel the testicle in the groin or abdomen), how difficult it may be to find it. If they haven't dropped and you have chosen to desex, I'd be getting a reproductive specialist to operate, rather than GP vet.
  17. I think we are all thinking the same thing, but we dont want to say it PARVOVIRUS (sp). get ur pet to the vet straight away, bleeding over 1 weeki would say (if its PARVO) would be a good thing, because the pup has some fight in it. If its not AV,then 1would ask,if i beeld from the back-side over 1 week, would i see a docter ? So a couple of weeks ago you were asking the most basic of questions about how to look after your dog, and now you are diagnosing Parvo over the internet??? Mikhala, I would say the breeder is right, but best get checked by a vet to make sure. Umbi hernias are nothing to worry about and will probably disappear as his muscle tone develops. I had one that was quite noticeable, vet said it is just a bit of trapped fat and will never be a cause for concern. it can be easily fixed at time of desexing if it concerns you
  18. Did she come from a registered breeder?
  19. check out Priceless pets you will find they are way cheaper than the others
  20. OF COURSE IT DOES ! The genetics puzzle gets more complicated when you cross breeds. But heredity doesn't disappear!!!!! One reason I caution people against cross breeds is that they may come from dogs/bitches that would not have passed health criteria within their breed standards. Find out what you can about sire and dam . . . it never hurts. So how many pound dogs do you think would be adopted if potential buyers insisted on knowing the health status of the dog's parents?
  21. What have you decided about the dog Humbolt?

    Feeding Problems

Try a raw chicken neck or wing. yeah? Twaddle mate! A myth perpertrated by movies with pampered poodles perfectly groomed sitting on satin cushions being hand fed caviar perhaps Lots of tasty people alternatives are OK like a litle scrambled egg or some sardines mixed in his dry may make it more interesting. Try a little experimenting but avoid the nasties like onions, chocolate, grapes etc, oh and caviar!
  23. If that is the case, no rescue dogs would ever be rehomed. This pup needs a new home where it will be wanted, and the reason why is hardly important. Gareth ,you have jumped in before seeing what I meant the op has already told us that the dog jumps up ;NOTE it is to be raised with children ,THAT was my number 1 concern You think because the dog jumps up it should not go to a home that has children? That's just a straightforward training issue. I was referring to the bolded bit of your post. The pup is known to it's current owners and a history can easily be given regarding her behaviour and temperament. Parentage may or may not be known, but does it really matter for a cross breed? The pup is nearly full grown anyway so should be easy enough to see what it's adult coat and temperament will be like. Anyway Humbolt, good luck and let us know what she is like, and whether she is to be yours.
  24. They want money for her? Bit rude. Surely a good home is the only priority.
