Wow, some of those dogs got terribly confused by their silly owners didn't they?
-
Have you had him checked over by a vet? he could be in pain for some reason.

As you have already found, there are other bugs around that they can pick up. I think you are taking too many risks and would keep him home till he is fully vaccinated. You NEED to be paranoid!!

Anyone Had A Dog With A Broken Tail ?
gareth replied to WreckitWhippet's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Do you have some vet wrap or similar you could use, to make a nice firm splint for it? -
edit as this is stupid

Can't you read? How on earth did you come to that conclusion?

Oh for goodness sake That comment reminds of me of all the those male dog owners who refuse to desex because they think it is a threat to their own masculinity! These are dogs, not humans, and desexed dogs still have sex drive, whether it is driven by hormones or instinct. Lots of breeders have desexed dogs who act as ovulation detectors.

What Are The Choices With Desexing?
gareth replied to Ellis's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I wonder why can't dogs go on hormone tablets to allow proper development after desexing.? -
Those nice absorbent kitchen paper towels do the job best I find. Use a good handful to press down on the wee and let it soak into the paper towel. That draws most of it out. Then you need some detergent such as Morning Fresh, or Biozet works well, dissolved on a wet sponge/rag, and gently sponge over the area to clean the remainder. Works for me, but I am sure there wil be others with better ideas.

Depends on the breed also. The breeders of tinies and toys would probably not let them go until 12 weeks or so. Puppies must be at least 8 weeks old before they can leave the breeder. If anyone tried to sell you a puppy younger than that, they are not doing the right thing by the puppy, or by the code of ethics they agreed to and can get into a lot of trouble with the canine council. Some breeders keep pups a bit longer to see if they are going to be suitable for the show ring, so that is another reason for selling them a little older. it is entirely up to the breeder what age they are sold. I would also not fly a baby puppy until it was 12 weeks old. Make sure you buy from a reputable and registered breeder. What breed are you looking at?

Why Does My Dog's Haircut Cost More Than Min
gareth replied to shmoo's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I'm glad my haridresser doesn't have to squeeze my anal glands -
Have you tried them on puppy milk?

What is "it"? I am sure "it" whoever "it" is, does not associate the chillis with the eyes and nose watering, so put the plant where "it" can't reach it please? I don't think it is funny either.

I wouldn't eat dog food either if I was a dog. I presume you mean canned food do you? Have you tried a good quality dry food as already mentioned? What DOES your dog like to eat? Give your dog some lovely raw chicken necks or wings, and a nice meaty bone to chew on.

Early Desexing - Warning To Breeders
gareth replied to morgan's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
The constant arguing between rescuers and breeders over this issue has become tiring. Never the twain shall meet I am all in favour of early desexing of rescue pups. Makes perfect sense. However, if they were baby puppies I had put heaps of research, work, love and care into breeding and raising, there is NO way I would put them at risk of anaesthesia at such an early age, and I would recommend to buyers not to do so before they were at least 6-9 months old. Give them time to grow and develop a little first. There is no point arguing about this constantly. Rescuers have their opinions and reasons for being in favour of, and breeders have their opinions and reasons for being against.. Well, those that ARE against do. No point. Let's just share information and educate each other without denigration and nasty remarks. -
Add half to one teaspoon of natural apple cider vinegar to his diet every day. Search the forum for apple cider vinegar and see how it can possibly help your dog.

Veterinary Nutridrops from Pet Network are highly spoken of by some breeder freinds of mine.

How very, very sad for you, and what a great loss for the breed My sincere condolences. Can I ask how you came to lose him?

What Brand Of Commercial Dry Food To Feed?
gareth replied to DogsLover's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I remember buying a supply of it and it was called Aakyda natural nurse or something, that was a few years back. Pretty sure it is the same mob, but every time I try to pull up the Aakyda website my computer freezes. I'm going to the expo, so will do some investigating. -

If you are able Anne, you would benefit from going along to the Pet and animal expo this weekend. The Aakyda people had a stall there last time I remember. I am finding the Optimum range made by Waltham to be excellent and very good value. -
Gawd, when I was a kid my Pop used to go out shooting roos and bunnies and feed leftovers to the dogs. Dogs were in great shape. I'll never forget the way he used to chop off the rabbits heads before skinning them and throw the heads to the dogs to eat :p

How To Reduce Scaring, Creams Etc ?
gareth replied to Maverick's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
So, would this work on men who are going bald? -
A whole cup of apple cider vinegar sounds like one heck of a lot of vinegar to add to the meal of a mini poodle. Hehehe, thinks she means the horse Anne. ACV also works wonders in dogs. Boosts the immune system and keeps infections at bay. Lots of uses according to our diet guru Steve. I teaspoon a day would be enough for your poochy poodle though.

Glad to hear the pup is picking up. If he is not a normal happy pup within the next few days it would be surprising. Let him have plenty of uninterrupted rest in a warm place away from the children, and keep him warm at night especially. He will still be feeling off colour and weak for a while, especially if he has a fever. Might be an idea to add some minced raw fruit and vegies to his diet, and maybe a children's vitamin supplement to boost his immune system Good luck with him. You sound like a committed and caring owner.
