  1. i would have to agree with the OP link... sorry talked about the vet too... my young dog who is now 2 1/2, became lame on his back leg at about 10mths, after running in the paddock on wet ground, he was kept crated for a few days- well quite a few actually... the leg just didn't seem to get better... so off to the vet we go... he was bearing weight on it at that stage quite well, but after exercise would favour it a bit... anyway Vet straight away suspected cruciate damage, said they would need to xray to rule out any bone damage and to fully check the joint out... so he was booked in... the following Monday.. off to the vets we went, and then later that day i get a phone call from the vet(who wasn't the one supposed to be doing the exam) explaining what they found and they would talk more about our options later... they wanted to do full TPLO surgery reccommended asap, as my dog had apparently ruptured his cruciate... then went on to explain that they had had full training in such surgery but had never performed it, and would be able to do so at a reduced cost, considering it would be the first they have ever done... i said " so you want him to be your first guinea pig- meaning trial and error case" and he agreed ... he told me to think about it and let them know as it needed to be done quickly if teh dog was to have a good recovery... he wasn't even going to show me the xrays... i asked to see them, because i always like to see what i pay for... i had his hips xrayed as well... he only put the xray up of the sore knee and then tried to point out were the damage was??? uh i know what xrays look like and from research knew what to expect, i then had to ask again for the other knee xray to be put up... well as i expected they were both exactly the same... both very clear... i wasn't a very happy camper at this point, and left telling them i would think about it and let them know... if i was to get cruciate surgery on any of my dogs it would be done by a specialist... so i was searching for a specialist for a 2nd opinion.. as i am not that gullible... anyway someone asked if i had had his back checked out.. no why would i??? so off to a vet chiro we went with all the dogs, i said nothing about his cruciate.. and guess what the poor fella had his back and neck out, he was adjusted and put on light restricted exercise for 3 weeks, then went back for another and was fine... i asked this guy about his cruciate and then told him what my other vet wanted to do... lets say he was shocked... apparently his back would have been out from an injury sustained as a young puppy, from a hard knock i was told... and i do remember what happened.. sort of... i came home from work one day and he had escaped from his pen and was limping, a few days rest and he was ok, so thought nothing more of it... but as his back was out he never had a proper gait... so was always putting pressure on that knee joint, until one day it was a bit too much pressure, he had severe muscle wastage in that leg from not using it properly, so it was a long recovery to get him to full strength, but he is there and has currently started to compete in Agility and is doing well, goes for regular checkups at the chiro and has only been out 1 other time... his muscles have built back up very well and it has taught me a lot about strength training in performance dogs as all the dogs now do it... the chiro has also given me the skills to check my dogs so i know if they are out and need an adjustment... anyway just thought i would share as sometimes we need to look further than where the actual pain/injury looks to be...
  2. yeah i agree to all.. when i was sent the link i just had to share...

  7. Names are Fun!!! all my current dogs are Border Collies... The Old Boy - Buddy, a rescue originally named Blocka - nah that was never going to stay, and he was going to be my mate so Buddy it was.. suits him... Then along came Coco... a choc/white BC... i liked Bailey wanted her reg name baileys n cream, but didn't want another dog starting with the letter B, and couldn't have baileys n cream as it was already taken... then decided on Chico for choc jelly babies, but someone mentioned chiko rolls so that name never stuck... the kids of the people i was working for at the time liked Coco ... reg name i got to choose as Roki Road... Then GT, cause she is reg Gin and Tonic, puppy and name chosen at Agility Camp over a few drinks... father is named Schnapps...also liked the name Blitz her sister ended up being called Blitz cause my friend got her and liked the name... Then Focus cause of his blue eye and i really liked the name was on the list and when i saw him knew he was a Focus... reg name woody willow, had no choice in that he was reg when i got him don't like his reg name at all... Rumour... bred by me out of Coco original owners called her Shady, i reg her Spring Fling- when she came back and i decided she would stay, gave her a new name Shady did not suit her.. Rumour was on my list and it suits her as well as her reg name... Previously owned dogs include long coat chihuahua - Angus named when i got him and it suited him... German Shepard - Doofus he wasn't really, also called that when i got him it sort of suited him... some of the puppies i have bred/named names include Reg name / Call Name MArbled Ruckus - Ruckus Marbled Choc Shake - Shaker Tri Rhythm n Blue - Rhythm Dream Weaver - Dream Choc Follie - Molly Bling Diamond - Bling High on Spirit - Spirit Etched in Time- Thyme Jolly Swift - Swift Choc Toblerone - Toby Road Trippa - Roadie Oz Choc Mayhem - Mayhem Marbled Trubble - Jinx Code Breaka - Breaka Choc Quizz - Quizza
  8. she's not Bad.. just pampering herself with a mud bath.... just like her mum...(who forgot to rinse off)
  9. As the breeder of the dog in Question... most definitely more mental stimulation is needed, both Sire & Dam are active dogs who are active in Agility/Canine Disc & Herding, although not pure working lines, both have great desire and instinct to work stock... and am sure if given the chance would be very happy to live there lives just working stock.. well maybe not Coco who enjoys doing everything... have sent Bexsta a private email with my thoughts on Kobe, but basically not enough mental stimulation... also do not think that a behaviourist is needed and the fact that she has already taken steps to interfere in the unwanted behaviours tells me she is on the right track...
  10. Look like a Border Collie that my Aussie Shep plays with at our local park. yeah he is a choc merle tri border... sire to Rhythm(the blue merle tri girl in earlier posts) quite often gets called a Koolie more so than an Aussie... but i loves him so no matter what he gets mistaken as...

  13. when you have them at 1 to 7 oclock, and normal gaps(so when they are rotated straight they will be correct distance), thats when you close em up... sometimes though i have found that it can be easier to close one set, then the other... Coco struggled with entries so i closed the last 2 poles then the first 2, with GT i had to close the first 2 then the last 2.. with Focus i straightened em all at once... really depends on the individual dog, i think the most important thing is to not have them at say 1-7 for any length of time, beacuse the dogs really do pattern the poles, so they need to be straight asap, if not 4 than at least 2 poles IMO... the dog in the dvd got them quick because that is how quick it can be...
  14. Hey AD... use the frisbee.... the value of the frisbee will then transfer to the poles... when training you need to use your most valued reward, in CK's case a frisbee, don't throw it long and if need be do rollers along the reward line, well as close as one can get... good luck with it, and yes some video would be great... have fun with it it is a great process for training weavers, i have trained 3 of mine with the method and would not do it any other way...
  15. yes that should be great, wonder who the lucky state will be, for the seminars...
  16. It is defeintly Money well spent, i attended Lyndas seminars when she was out here last.. a fantastic trainer... I am doing all of the QLD seminars again this time...
  17. Can understand that - especially since you were always introduced as the most important person on the field, and you did such a great job. Oh that's right, no one had a foul! You should talk to those competitors and make them do a foot fault next time, you'd definitely get on TV that way!! But I did see you nearly everytime they threw. Thyme did a great job - yeah must be the breeding! i am more than happy that they didn't show me waving my red flag at the start... have no desire to be on TV... and Thanks i was proud of Thyme & Matt.. they have done a great job with her...
  18. Well i was particularly excited that Thyme managed to make it into the televised show... was great to see one of Coco's puppies handling it so well... A great show.. i was dissapointed that they didn't show me waving my little red flag though.. great job by AD & CK
