  1. I do the ENS(early neurological stimulation) program with my pups, which goes from day 3 to day 16, they move from the whelping box/room to the lounge room during the day at about 2 1/2 weeks, in an Xpen set up... they have toys to crawl over and interact with a like a range of toys from squeaky toys to tug toys to plush toys, you name it they usually see it... i like to change they toys every other day or so, also gives you a chance to wash them if needed... i change the xpen set up around each day, there is a small crate in there with a bed in, from 3 1/2 - 4 weeks i may also put a balance disc, in with them to crawl over as well... while in the lounge all the other dogs are around... from 3 weeks i allow visitors, i like a range of visitors from kids to adults of both gender... at various times during the day from when they move into the lounge i play a sounds CD.. sometimes i play this later at night... once a day i will open the xpen up and let them explore( all other dogs are outside) it is fun to watch how they do when given more space... i open the back door and let them go out if they choose.. i like them to explore and be confident about it, i think by allowing this early on helps them deal with new places much easier while growing... from 4- 4 1/2 weeks, they are outside in the day pen (which has a section under cover and on concrete where i place all the bedding, and a grassed area) i start them off in the under cover area, and let them explore and find the grassed area on their own, usually takes maybe an hour... this also encourages them to toilet on the grass and it literally takes 1 or 2 days for them to go out to the toilet... the day pen is just a bigger Xpen set up with lots of things to stimulate their minds, toys, empty bottles, things hanging down, wobble boards, tippy boards, tunnels, etc... once again i change it every other day, after a few days in the day pen, i open the gate and allow more exploring of the back yard... this is usually a daily occurence and we usually get further out each day, i am lucky i am on 2 acres, so when they are confident enough and have found there way to the back gate, our daily adventures lead us further and further... i will start travelling with my pups from 4 weeks, they often come on a ride to training, but dont get out or if they do i will set up an xpen with blankets on the grounds, people are allowed to visit but not other dogs... i like lots of activity around them and noises, i will mow the yard, work with power tools etc, i also like them to feel different surfaces under their feet, my place is tiles and concrete indoors, grass/dirt & gravel outdoors... oh and i will play with them lots, i love playing tug with puppies and as most of mine can be destined for performance homes, this is not a bad thing.. i will play group tug sessions and one on one sessions with them nearly everyday... those that have been chosen for performance homes i will put a little more into with their tugging... mine have tugged from 4 weeks old :), on our daily outdoor adventures i love to get them to chase me as well as each other, my other dogs are also milling around on our daily explorations as well...
  2. Very Cute... I'll take the all black one :) Congratulations!!!
  3. Well Our Puppy was delivered Safely yesterday by C-Section... a Happy Healthy Black & White Boy with a strong set of lungs on him :) With teh Proud Mama :) His Sire (from the UK) Our new little man
  4. We are booked in to my local vet next Friday for XRay, i normally use my local vet for Ultrasounds, they are quite good, but Repo vet wanted to do them and was convincing enough for me to make the trip, my local vet has done plenty of Ceasars as well... We will discuss things with him next week, possibly make an appointment for the Monday for the Ultrasound and make a decision weather to make the trip to the Repo Vet or not...
  5. Thanks all for sharing... my concern is also that in her previous litters she has whelped on the 60/61 day mark, the vet gave me the date at the 59 days, but said sometimes singles need an extra day... so wants me to come on the Monday(Day 60) have an ultrasound, see how things are going and make a decision go home and come back tomorrow or deliver the pup if she is in labour... if he was 15min away i could cope with that but 2 1/2 hrs... I will have a chat with my local vet, they need to be on Standby anyway...
  6. thanks to all who have replied... in my breed there are some who have required C-Sections, but some/most who will whelp just fine... i will be taking every precaution possible to ensure a safe happy healthy pup, the specialist vet says not to worry about x-rays, but i feel that i will as we could still only see 1 pup on the ultrasound, and it will give me an idea of the size(would be great for an extra surprise but i am doubtful) will also talk to my local vet when i get the xray, they will need to be on standby anyway as the specialist says she is due on a Monday, x ray will be done on the Friday :)
  7. i have my normal vet 15min away, yep i know there is a risk in not electing to do a Cesar, but also i do not like to put my dogs through unnecessary surgery as yep there is risk in that too... Yes its been a long road in getting just one pup and that too is why the specialist thought i should not risk anything... Just needed to hear others experiences and thoughts, but i do know every dog is different and she may or may not need some help delivering... Thanks...
  8. Ok so looks like we are expecting a singleton litter in 2 weeks, was an AI with Frozen Semen... Specialist vet is adamant that a cesarean will need to be done and wants to do this at a set date if my girl is in actual labour or not, his reasons being that nearly all single litters never come into labour properly and then the pup could/would die, he of course also wants to do the procedure as he was the one to do the AI- this i fully understand, but it is a 2 1/2 hr drive away, and i am always careful about keeping my girls as stress free in the last week of the pregnancy, especially around the due date...Just so you know, this girl has had 3 litters in the past(11,9,10) and has whelped the litters with no problems, Just wondering what others have done when they know they are expecting just one...
  9. the prices i was quoted is to fly BC puppies in a PP40 crate... prices have not been any different for over 12 months... Oh and price i got from Brisbane to Canberra was $110, but from Canberra to Brisbane is $160... are you letting them know you are breeders???
  10. i only use JetPets... have been at the airport while others have tried lodging their pets through Dogtainers to find.. No crates & No Bookings... was thankful that i use JetPets as i have never had a problem with Jet Pets.. Prices i think are good $100 - $160 flying out of Brisbane to most capital cities... their has been some changes in the industry though, with Quantas not accepting public to lodge their pets if using JetPets.. must be a JetPets representative, As far as i know it will be the same with all pet transport companies.. sucks as can no longer get early morning flights and from what i know JetPets may charge a $60 lodgement fee from some depots...
  11. yes there was no reason to think that he was not looking for a friend, i even got pictures of the dog training school that the buyer runs, the buyer may be legit, but i am not about to fill his pockets for him... with the price for a Border Collie quoted on the website, he would be pocketing about 2500AUD for his troubles... i do now have the email contact for the buyer though it looks to be a dog training school email... at least he was honest and admitted to me when i asked about it... but i think that was due to possibly not getting a puppy, which will now never happen...
  12. I have been contacted by a Nori Maehara, wanting a puppy to purchase for Japan... i was not told that he was running puppy paradise but that he was purchasing a puppy for a friend in Japan... Puppy Paradise Australia email was [email protected] trades under N & R Corporation PTY LTD he mistakenly sent me an email that was meant for his Japan buyer...
  13. no not really.. just stuck on this one name for now...
  14. just thought i would see what others come up with... all i can think of is Dunwurkn Doin it in Style - her Call name Flair
  15. my whelping boxes are 900mm x 1200mm.. one used to be 1200 square but, i found it too big... i like the current size... Towels for the whelping, and also for drying off puppies... i used newspaper once, but with a manic digger, yes it tore to shreds but was such a pain to clean up... so grabbed some old towels, and has been great ever since... i also have some sheets that i doubled up cut to size and stitched together, i alternate between vet bed and a light blanket covered with the sheet during the day(but then it is quite warm at the moment up here in QLD) Scales Yep... notepad/pen basket or box, to place pups if needed in between whelps... clock- i have a wall clock in sight... scissors thats my basics what i just used for my latest litter...
