Not Sure What Is Causing My Dogs Behaviour
mysticpaw replied to mysticpaw's topic in General Dog Discussion
We feed just after 7pm. We also feed in the morning and it doesn't happen. He is on the bed now with Mr MP and is fine. Even when he is agitated we can call him for a treat and he comes, then when the treat is finished it is back to climbing under desks. Tomorrow we will walk and he will be fine. If will be interesting to see how he goes on the week-end away from home. -
Not Sure What Is Causing My Dogs Behaviour

Same behaviour tonight, though less agitated. Raining here so don't think its fireworks. Same time frame as well. Still working on it being a noise though, as the Border Collie up the street is barking. ( He only barks if something upsets him) Will talk to his owners and see if they have a theory. I wouldn't be as worried if my other dogs were reacting the same way, but they aren't. Thank goodness Easter is over and I can get him to the vets. -
Not Sure What Is Causing My Dogs Behaviour

Thanks. I am. I am hoping it is something around the house and not an illness. Will get him up to the vets asap, for an opinion. We are going away this week-end, will be interesting to see if he shows the same behaviour, in a different environment. -
A couple of evenings last week, my boy Ricky (10 year old Siberian) behaved totally out of character. He was agitated, scratched on doors, windows and gates. If you called him "treat" he would come running, but after the treat would go back to trying to get under the computer desk, or hiding on the lounge in the same room. We thought there might be a storm somewhere. There have been a few parties since then, so we thought it might be the bass, no thunderstorm activity and my other dogs are fine. I am keeping a diary of times and hoping to get a pattern, so I can take all the info to the vets. A thought that had occurred to me was bat noises, we have a few palm trees with pods and I think there maybe bats around. Has anyone else experienced this? Tonight he was really agitated, went from a happy normal dog to panting and trying to bury himself in the lounge. He is now on the bed and seems OK. Any thought or ideas would be much appreciated.

Thanks for that. I think this puppy is a Maltese x.

Sounds like it's a common practice then. Would like to know more on the reasons for doing this if anyone can point me in the right direction. It sort of came across as a guilt trip for my daughters friend.

Hi Did a search and didn't find anything. Was just talking to my daughter, her friend is having her new pup desexed soon. She asked if I had heard of paying for a pre test to see if a dog/cat may be allergic to anaesthetic. I hadn't heard of it before and was wondering if it was a normal thing now. The quote was $100.

What Would You Want To See At A Community Dog Event?
mysticpaw replied to ruthless's topic in General Dog Discussion
That's a shame - the year I exhibited at the Royal, we were chatting constantly to people about the breed etc, bringing the dog over to the fence for pats etc. The Royal is a bit of a full on environment for the dogs (and exhibitors!). A liitle OT, but there used to be two Breed Stall days at the Show. These days are excellent to talk to the general public. There was hardly any exhibitors last year on those days. Our Club Stopped doing it as there were only two parking passes and two entry tickets given out. You need at least 6-8 dogs to rotate them and give them time out throughout a very long and hot day. Sorry Ruth, it's just a shame that one of the most popular exhibits at the show is not supported by R.A.S Vent over. -
What Would You Want To See At A Community Dog Event?

Last year The Siberian Husky Club of NSW held an Info Day at Nurragingy reserve. It was a great success, we set up around the area like a mini expo. We had Gazebos and flyers on Sledding, show, grooming, rescue, agility, puppies, training, behaviour problems, health issues and obedience. Between all our members that came there was someone that could answer any question. It looked really good, and we helped a lot of people. Though this was breed specific, I thought some of the ideas might help. -
100 Huskies Slaughtered In Canada After Games
mysticpaw replied to samoyedman's topic in Dog Cruelty and Abuse News
I agree ID. I find it hard to accept that no one asked what happened to these dogs or knew about it. It's not like it just happened. I have always admired Karen and her Sibe team. I would be even more saddened if Karen did know or suspect. -

Press release from the President of Mush with Pride Karen Ramstead. From Mush with P.R.I.D.E.’s President, Karen Ramstead… We are shocked and saddened to hear that one of Mush with P.R.I.D.E.’s Board members is being implicated in the mass killing of sled dogs in Whistler, British Columbia. The Board has passed a motion to remove Bob Fawcett from the Board of Mush with P.R.I.D.E. immediately. Euthanasia should not be used for population control and what happened in this case is simply unacceptable. No responsible sled dog owner or caregiver treats dogs in this manner. Mush with P.R.I.D.E. was created by mushers who love their dogs and feel strongly about promoting responsible and humane sled dog care. We are dismayed that the organization so many of us are passionate about is being tainted by this situation. It is revolting that those of us who take care of our dogs from puppies to geriatrics may be forced to wear the sins of those responsible for this atrocity. Please bear with us as we struggle to come to terms with this horrid situation. -

Husky And Malamute Owners Here Please

Siberians are very adaptable. One of mine sun bakes. So long as they have plenty of clean fresh water and shade they are fine. I do have a shell pool as well, it seems to be a trait that they like to paw in buckets of water. Mine also have a nice cool hole under a tree fern that they love. -
Just wanted to add that when you find a vet you can trust they are worth their weight in gold or chocolates. Two week ago: One dead black snake, Four possibilities for snake bite. Several hours at the vets with snake detection kits and pending results. Through the whole afternoon surgery into kaos. One consultation fee (I expected to pay for four). Not one complaint from the people who didn't get to see the vet that afternoon. A vet and a vet nurse who went into the night with one of the dogs at no extra charge. All dogs are fine. To all the dedicated professionals out there.

Just thought I would also mention this as I think it shows the type of guy our vet is. After the Victorian bushfires a Doler asked for specific medical things to be sent down to Victoria. I asked Joe (our vet) if he could get these things at cost from a supplier as I wouldn't be able to purchase them. He agreed and then matched what I had spent. They also gave me a lot of leads and collars as well.

I can highly recommend our vet at Heathcote. We had a girl with suspected pyometra, he gave us his mobile number in case she got worse. We didn't need it on that occasion, but when my boy got a tick I rang him and he got the resident vet to open the surgery and start getting the drip ready. He is excellent with my four huskies. Also have a friend that uses Sylvania vet and says they are really good as well. Bundeena is a lovely spot, good luck with your move.

Yes I have read and posted that link before.

I have never watched it. I went through enough tissues watching that.

Time To Order Your Christmas Puppies!
mysticpaw replied to poodlefan's topic in General Dog Discussion
Awesome Deshonko!!! Can I order 6 please so that I can have a full team for next sledding season? They would be perfect for my 4 year old son to take out all by himself Not a problem. Its a hell of a lot easier to transport one of these teams to an event. On second thoughts, can I double that order so I can give one to some of my friends for Chrissy presents? Otherwise they'll all be jealous and we can't have that now I'm your friend, so do I get a breeding pair? -
To All You Fellow Dog Owners - Do You Also Own A Cat?
mysticpaw replied to Abigail's topic in General Dog Discussion
I have four Siberians and two cats. One of the cats "Danny" thinks he is one of the dogs. The dogs like Danny so much they had him for Christmas dinner. :D Tikaani adores Danny -
Just bumping this, as it is on this Sunday. If you could pass it on to any Siberian owners or people that maybe thinking of buying a Sibe. Please also feel free to download the flyer and place at your dog park, community notice board, vet, etc. Thanks http://www.shcnsw.org.au/shcnsw/index.asp~...cnsw.id.A000137
