  1. Myszka, last week Herr Rottweiler started to teach my Rotty to give him his paw. Rotty was trying all his tricks, dropping, talking, snuffling and twice he did something that could be seen as raising his paw. We had a chat about learning by observation, so that weekend I sat my Shepherd down in front of the Rotty and asked the Shepherd for his paw - which he did immediately. I turned to the Rotty and asked for his paw - perfect first time around. Training on Wednday night and Herr Rottweiler asks for his paw, he does it first time around now, keeps doing it and now won't stop
  2. Ravensmyst00, I have a 3 year old rotty (a plodder) who, in drop stays basically has a nap. It can be hard to motivate him even though he LOVES going to school. So whilst training I often change my walk so I talk smaller fast steps, then longer steps and then more arm movement to keep him motivated. I also reward him at different times, not always right after he has done what was asked of him. And if he is really de-motivated, I will get him to step away from class very quickly and do something different to the others. Just some ideas
  3. well after all of this - I hope Scope has sought assistance for her situation. I would be keen to learn from her situation training wise, as to what has been recommended. Please excuse me for getting back to the original question. I shall take my degree and temper and go now GR
  4. SCOPE if you are still reading, is there any chance of coming to RCV training tomorrow night ? I am sure they will be some truly valuable and helful advice there :p But I can appreciate if you have to work. Herr Rott. is always there for great advice. Hope to see you there soon and Grotty will have more hugs for you.
  5. Scope - we can all have bad days, as you know, and what has happened has happened, we MOVE ON no point in people carrying on. You know it was a msitake. Back to the post now - as you know I have the same breed combination and when I am outside, the GSD will try and stand over and agress Grotty Rotty. I just have to use a verbal command to stop the behaviour and then give the Shepherd a small task to do to keep him busy and feeling like he is doing his small little thing. Maybe seperation could work for them. You work so hard with your dogs, I can see that with Hudson at training. Don't give up yet.... apart from that I really have no advice other then what works for me. Good luck.
  6. Yeah the reversing beeper is great - was great. I have the same combination Scope, a GSD and Rottweiler, they settle when the reversing sensor beeps. Now the darn beepers have gone haywire and screech at me non stop when I am in reverse and do not actually sense anything... now it drives both me and the dogs nutty
  7. Hi Jintanut, I have had another read of this thread. Forgive me if i have missed anything but here are a few comments. Grotty is my first Rotty after coming from a home of GSD's (of which I have one at the mo').. I feel a rotty will be a wonderful addtion. I have been blown away be the gentle nature, the calmness and his ability to be still. GR is nearly 3 years old and weighs in at 50 kilos, not one broken nail on my behalf nor a day of stretched arms. He walks off lead in our front yard and upon recall, is by my side like a black shadow. And I have to say I have never heard anything as impressive as the roar of a rotty. His bark and roar are more guttural and deeper then any GSD I have heard. So based on the sheer presence of such a dog, I say Vote 1 Rottwelier. Oh Herr Rottwelier and K9 - thank you, I do hope the sheer sight of me and my two boys keeps the unwanted's away I like to think it is the sight of them not me that does it
  8. K9 - I have absolutelty no doubts that is true re: off our property. I will work on the perception of a confident walk with a GSD or Rottweiler on lead will suffice as i have no plans on protection training. God forbid anything happens to me that changes that.
  9. Jintanut... I feel that the presence of a large dark dog can be enough. My grotty rotty is the most gentle darling. But recently the builder next door stuck his head over the fence and GR hit that fence roaring and threw all 50 kilos at the fence. Builder no longer is a sticky beak. The Shepherd is great too... not as much roaring. But I challenge anyone to approach our front door and feel welcome with the two black and tans watching from behind the wire door.
  10. I had my Rotty on Nutrience as a pup, it is fine BUT his poo was H U G E and stunk, so at 18 months I put him onto Iams and have had no more stinky barkers eggs.
  11. Gooddog... Thanks for that very indepth reply...for all readers. Interesting comment on the RSPCA...hummmmmm
  12. Quick ?.... are the Innotek Containment systems LEGAl in Vic?
  13. JayGee, I am so sorry for your loss, thank you for your touching addition to this very personal and fiery thread. I too own the Gazelle type of Rotti and have spent a night in tears when he did escape before innotek arrived in our life. Thoughts of what could happen to him flew through my mind but luckily he and his GSD friend were found safe and sound. We do what we need to do, as you said.
  14. Well said Koza... there is so much that is been ignored as it is seen as to hard. Someone is fussed over my dogs having a stimulation on their neck to keep them in a big shady yards, daily walks, lots of food, warmth and love yet they can close their eyes to horrendous backyard breeding with dogs treated in the most appaling ways. Hummmmmmmm....
  15. oh and by the way abzndbonnie... I get the feeling you might be in the same area as me, so if you see a Rotty and GSD bouncing along thru the Mornington Peninsula, can you just please grab them for me
  16. ahh Kit Kat we are again such bad mothers.... thank god venetian blinds don't 'zap' us each time we take a gander out of them. NO NO I must stop typing right now and not get inlvolved. If you don't like what is on TV turn the thing off. If you don't like Mc Donalds, don't buy it BUT I will keep using my Innotek collar as my rotty has proven again this week that he loves eathng fence palings! Thank gosh to the RSPCA does not rule our lives too. Afton... just don't buy one if they upset you that much!
  17. personally dog food in my mouth is not for me, and if he gets tired of looking at me (who can blame him) I pull faces and he watches intently. Eyebrows going up and down is a constant source of amusment.
  18. Reilly, I found in the beginning with my Rotty was to use food and draw it to my face whilst saying' watch', I 've since stopped with food and he is great at the eye contact now! Good luck...
  19. Sonny - that is common for companies to do. I have swapped from Nutrience (stinky poos) to IAMS Large breed and it is the ONLY food my GSD has ever wagged his tail at!!!
  20. I know KitKat - it is one of those things that wakes you at 2:00am screaming PRICELESSPETS!!!!!!!
  21. I think it is www.pricelesspets.com.au I found them to be REALLY cheap for the 50 kilo plus size Frontline...
  22. I learnt the hard way Lia - second time around I got smart and found the breeder first and the right dog from the right breeder. Happy go lucky is wonderful..... he makes me laugh.
  23. I know how you felt Lia.... I would leave in tears and feel such mean feelings to my dog who would try and attack anything on 4 legs. I tried to be so patient and keep teaching him and learning with him. So yes I have felt guilty of doing the wrong thing based on my temper. Then my current GSD, well he is the opposite. I am a calm angel as he is so happy go lucky. I am sure the other dog was channeling his anger to me as I am always such a calm person (normally). My Rotty is the same, he is a total love bug and does as I ask.
  24. Mattandbuddy… just curious, is he to be used for breeding and showing etc. Why not desex him? I had a similar issue with an old German Shepherd, he was dog aggressive and I found as I read his body language pre-attack I noticed he was reading my body language which triggered him even more. I was not aware of this at first but it was pointed out to me that my whole body changed as I saw a dog approach. Once I started to relax, the attacks decreased. Probably not much help as once other members post you will get some great advice.
