I take my greyhounds to GAP promos all the time and when we are setting up etc it is sometimes painful to have to hold leashes, I got an el cheapo lead from Crazy Clarks that has clips on both ends and 2 rings within the length, goes through my jeans belt loop perfectly and they just stand beside me.

Not that it was intended as dog treats but my girl seemed to delight in stealing the "Bush Pepper" and the "Wasabi" cheese rounds from the table the other night when I had a friend over for drinks....... Not a crumb left behind, just a sheepish looking dog with probably a very sore tummy!
-
He may have a sore tummy for a bit, I know of several greyhounds that have done the same and apart from a little discomfort been ok. If he is still in distress in the morning call the vet, it should be ok though. My boy chewed through a bottle of brake fluid with no ill effects.......

Depends where you are, I feed BARF that is the same as the patties, it comes in 2kg rolls as opposed to being broken up and costs $2.20 a kg, so for 2 greyhounds it costs me around $30 a week including chicken frames and bones etc. If you are in Brissie PM me and I can let you know where, am not sure if I am allowed to put the link one here?

Will you be showing him later on? I have a boy with the most bizarre ears - he is an ex racing greyhound - I love them though, they give him character and he will never be shown so I am not worried tried to add a photo but can't get it to load..... damn technology

Pre-mixed blue shampoos or white glo are made to the correct mix not to leave discolouration when used. I used to laugh at all the blue/purple ponies trotting around PC when the kids had washed them using crystal silver in the wrong dose. If the shampoo is made up with crystal silver in it you have to be careful to get the amount right. It will wash out or just fade away. My dogs get a bath every six months or so ( the joy of greyhounds! ) but I wipe them over with baby wipes, especially around the muzzle. The yellowing does sound like urine staining maybe, my boy squats to pee and while the rest of him is clean and nice he has that "doggy" smell more often because he pees all over his leg........ baby wipes get rid of the smell and help to keep the area clean without the need to wash all the time and strip the oils from his coat. You can get doggy wipes, but they are pretty much the same as baby ones and the baby ones are cheaper - $3.00 or so at ALDI for good thick unscented ones -

I have soft suede and webbing ones for my guys, they loosen fine, they are wide collars with solid hardware. I also use one that has a chain for obedience as it distinguishes for her that we are "working" not just out and about given that they reccomend you use a check or martinagale for training and a flat collar at other times - she has a martinagale at ALL times so makes it clearer for her with the noise of the chain.
-
I would suggest a martingale. They give the correction angle, but only when needed and not as harsh as a check chain, with the added bonus of not being able to slip them. - i realise that correctly used check chains are not "harsh" as such and can be a very useful training tool, I just use martingales as I have greyhounds and have found them to be great

Opinions / Advice In Regards To Heart Murmurs
greychicken replied to Stormy's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Hi Stormy, my little one was only young, he would have been 2 on Tuesday had he made it that long He showed no symptoms when he came into foster, was only discovered when he was put under for desexing. Vet was surprised given the severity that he came out of the op at all. I could actually feel how bad it was, his heart would beat irregularly and then stop, then really fast, really slow..... Same theory applies though, there was a grey I was told about that had much the same thing and he made it to 8 or so and his passing was totally unrelated to his heart condition. I have since heard of many dogs and cats that continue on as normal with murmurs, lets just hope your boy is one of them! EFS -
Opinions / Advice In Regards To Heart Murmurs

Hi, I had a boy with Cardio Myopathy. He had a similar prognosis, could last a week, a month a year, ten years...... He was on medication to reduce the fluid build up around his heart, was allowed to exercise but I moderated that carefully as his capacity reduced. He wanted to run and play but just couldn't cope with it in the end. I feel that the medication helped, made him more comfortable, reduced the coughing. He was on Frudix tablets and Endep ( an anti-anxiety medication as he had seperation anxiety as well and it calmed him down a little ) It is a touch and go thing, sadly my boy didn't have long ( 1 month after diagnosis ) Just let him do what makes him happy, he will let you know when it is too much for him. I really feel for you having recently lost my darling boy to this problem. Go with your gut, don't overdo it and medicate him if it is available, can't hurt at any rate. I wish you both all the best and hope that he has a long and happy time ahead of him. -
How Much Do Your Dogs Eat?
greychicken replied to Pink Panther's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Wow, I knew that my guys had fast metabolisms but looking at what other people feed I am somewhat surprised. I feed my 2 and a half yr old 27.8kg greyhound half a dozen chicken necks or 3 wings or 2 drumsticks or a brisket bone and biscuit bone in the morning 500gms BARF mixed with 2 cups of dry (cups being baking cups 250gms) plus sardines every night, plus treats... -
Ally Alice was a gorgeous girl. She was too short on this earth. She never found her forever home, but she was much loved and spolied when in foster. This is my tribute to her.

Sweet Alice. I had the privlege of sharing this beautiful girls too short life. I would like to think I showed her love and happiness in that time. Run free baby

Copra meal comes in a powder form. It is important to NOT FEED DRY. It expands in water. Soak in cold water for 12 hours or hot water for shorter period. If you feed it dry it can swell up when it hits the stomach, this is what I have always been led to believe where horses are concerned. Horses have very sensitive stomachs, but I still wouldn't feed dry to a dog.

Hi, No advice to offer, I am just as curious as you! Have noticed that the dogs love horse food, haven't let my greys eat any but the JRT and the Mini Foxy used to whenever I fed the horses. Didn't seem to do them any harm, but then it was only small quantaties. Copra appeals for a winter meal too, nice and warm for them. Hope someone can shed some light....
