Stop The Use Of Pound Animals For Experiments At Queensland University
raz replied to DMA's topic in In The News
It doesnt sound awful at all - it sounds completely rational. I wouldnt let a Doctor cut me open if he or she studied by only watching a computer simulation. How utterly ridiculous. -

I must say, I had a laugh about those comments yesterday -

Amazing isnt it. I find it rather irrational quite frankly. -

And the upshot is, if someone is worried their dog might be chopped up for science, they probably shouldn't dump it to start with -

They still get chucked in a black plastic bag and dumped at the tip. Atleast they've done something useful for science first. No different to someone's relative who got got carved up for science rather than just stuck in a hole -

So was this question answered? A few posts got nuked so if it was, I missed it. What's the issue because the people petitioning probably use pharmaceuticals all the time or have a vet work on their dog if it needs surgery. -

This is barbaric this is barbaric. You've probably used pharamceuticals that were used on an animal at a university hospital. Where do you think those animals who were tested on for your benefit were sourced from? If your dog needs surgery, how do you think the vet who cut him open got to practise before slicing him open with a scalpel? -

What century and country are you living in? I cant see a problem with it. Vet students need to study on something, the dogs are under GA anyway and they were going to be euth'd. Why not blame the people who dumped them to start with, not the vet students. -

Do you have a linky? A friend of mine a while ago took a photo of a woman sitting on the Spanish Steps in Rome. She was looking all pensive and smoking a ciggy. He didnt ask her permission - he just took it because he liked the fact she was having a quiet moment and thought she looked really beautiful. He didnt do anything creepy with the photo - he had it printed and framed and now hangs on his wall because it reminds him of the quiet moment he was having at that time. Is that bad? It's not like he gets naked and does strange things while dancing around his lounge room and hoping he meets her again one day. -

Sure, keep talking about it. eta I mean sure keep talking because it's good to know what people feel when some stranger takes their photo I laughed when I took the photo. Why? Because the driver of the car I was in is a techno genius and he couldnt believe that being the techno bimbo that I am that I actually worked out the camera function on my own - I was laughing at myself. I also laughed because I thought the quality was really crappy so what a waste of money for an iphone. The guy in the driver's seat might have thought I was laughing at something about him or his car. Now getting back to Pointees' example, the guy might have been laughing because when he was a little kid he had a pointer and he was remembering country drives with Spot and his parents who are now dead and he was reliving a great moment in his life. Why automatically assume he was being a prick? eta I didnt do anything with the photo. It's probably still on my phone somewhere. Would I? No because it was a test shot. I'm not the least bit interested in putting it on the net to make fun of the driver, whack off, do something else insidious with it. -

Why is it creepy, though? Was I creepy for taking a photo of the back of someone's car when I was testing my iphone? Quite frankly I didnt even think - hey shit I'm taking the photo of the back of someone's car, the rego might be in it and look at the back of that guy's head - he's grey or bald or needs a haircut. -

I understand the number plate thing. And I understand that something about the laughter gave you a gut reaction. If he had taken the photo and looked as if he was laughing in a Nawww look at that boofy pointer in the back of a car, would you have felt differently? -

What's the difference between someone taking a photo of your dog in your property and your dog in the dog park? Not having a go but just really interested. And laughing - in what way? Was he laughing that the sight of your dog was making him happy or laughing in some other manner? eg if I laugh at a stranger's dog doing zoomies, how do you know I'm not laughing at crappy movement or just laughing because I'm having a moment of joy? I hope you see what I mean. -

When I got my iphone I was sitting in the passenger seat testing to see if the camera worked so put it up and took a photo of the car infront of me. Now I'm wondering if the driver saw me and is pissed off thinking I was doing something suspicious :D Maybe the guy just liked your dog...Were you pissed off that he took the photos or that the stupid twit should have been keeping an eye on his learner driver? -

OKies running off for a squizz at my files. God help me if they have internet and see their faces to wherever I posted the photo on the internet :D God help me if the guy who I shot while sleeping on the steps of the Taj Mahal ever sees his face on the internet. He'd probably try to sue me. -

Totally understandable, dobes. I wouldnt be offended if someone approached me like that but if I was aggressively jumped on, called a pervert or had the cops called I'd be pretty damn humiliated. I was trying to remember the last time I pulled my camera out in Aus other than just to take snappies of my dogs. It was at a Tibetan New Year celebration. For whatever reason (subconscious probably telling me about how upset people in Australia get) I took photos of adult Tibetans in traditional garb but did not take one single shot of a little kid dressed up in gorgeous silk. What a shame. Beautiful little children in the most amazing clothes but I was too afraid to take a photo. Meanwhile, there was an Aussie photographer there with a stand selling incredible street photos of children he had taken in Tibet - without permission. Gorgeous photos, not pervy, but if I meet him again I'll have to ask if he's as free with his camera in Australia. And Ashanali :D You'd probably get stabbed. eta I went down to the local dog park with my camera but the place was empty. They must all be reading this thread as well and are now too scared to be out in public with their dog incase I take a photo and plast it up on dogzonline without permission -

It also sort of freaks you out a bit, doesnt it. I sent some of my travel shots to a member here and asked her if she thought any weirdo would find something even remotely suggestive enough to get his jollies while looking at them. She said no but then Ashanali said some foot fetishist could look at her website and see photos of a bride putting her shoes on and get his jollies. It's a bit damn disturbing when you start to think about it. Ash, that reminds me of being at Centennial Park years ago and seeing some professional looking guys with wedding rings on go into the toilet block with a young guy one by one. One guess what was happening. No I didnt take any photos -

Here's another scenario. Say you're down in the local dog park playing with your dogs and talking to other dog owners and someone is sitting in the corner with a camera and snapping away. Would those of you who object to photos of you and your dogs being taken without permission be upset with that? Would it make a difference if the person is sitting with a friend and they're laughing at dogs doing zoomies? -
NSW CAA was amended a few years back to include the acts of rushing etc. You might be thinking of that. Thanks.

Well there you go. I just ASSumed they would wait until they got home and put the photos up on the computer screen to drop their pants. How do they hold a heavy camera and telephoto with one hand? Sorry Tatelina. -
