  1. Exactly. Good point. Or target practice.
  2. Probably because a lot of people dont read signs. Have you ever been in a bank where it says Queue Here and some idiot walks straight up to the counter and asks where to queue?
  3. I agree with this to a great extent eg my dog crapped in the park, on the pathway, on a neighbours lawn. Big deal it's only one dog crap (not if 100 dog owners every day think the same thing ETA and judging by my local dog park, looks like just about everyone who uses it is indifferent. It's a minefield!) BUT look at the hefty fines for people who toss cigarette butts out of car windows, especially in summer, yet they still do it. Drink drivers - people still drink and drive. Speeders - same thing. I dont know what the answer is but as it is, it's not working.
  4. Oh dear. Buckle up folks. Hi Brad. You might want to equate yourself with the board rules.
  5. I'll add to that 4. clean up dog poo (I mean seriously...how many times do you have to pick up another dog's shit. Unbelievable and it really pisses off non dog owners 5. barking dogs disrupting neighbours (major cause for neighbourhood disputes) 6. vet treatment when required (seems like basic stuff)
  6. Interesting. So what would stop them from doing it? In my area the rangers are really lovely but they cover a huge area and completely run off their feet so they'd either have to bring someone like yourself in to do it or spend the money on an education officer. Need more to think about this some more
  7. I was in a chinese restaurant recently and saw a puppy carrier behind the cashier with Perfect Petzzz on it so asked what was in it. Cashier said she bought a puppy for her daughter so ofcourse we asked for a look, wondering what on earth a puppy was doing in a restaurant but puppy was being super quiet and wll behaved. She opened the box and we both went Nawww puppy sleeping...then realised it wasnt real :D
  8. More rangers to implement the laws we already have, and/or to place articles in local newspapers, give community talks etc? But then it comes down to council allocated money. Hard question. Will ponder a bit more.
  9. Just going back through this thread, this suggestion is a standout for me. No more 15 year olds on a pitiful salary coming out with the spiel thrown at them by the boss. A decent wage would have to be paid cutting into profit margins so pet shop owner would either have to employ a qualified person or not sell puppies and kittens. Pet shops arent being told they CANT sell puppies and kittens which is restriction of trade but it might be a way to put a lot of them off. I think this one is really worth thinking about.
  10. It's not your fault, Wild, but they really have to find out what caused it before the other two die. A week of severe vomiting with no eating OR DRINKING - horrible. Just horrible.
  11. I totally agree with you but Wild might be able to convince them. She obviously doesnt agree with what they did either.
  12. Can't see anything remotely like that happening if the sick dog wasn't taken to the vet and almost got a bullet. The problem is that if it's something toxic in the yard they could very well end up with 2 more dogs who die a horrible death.
  13. It sounds pretty serious, Wild. I'd be telling the people you know to take the dead dog to the vet asap. If they've buried him already, tell them to dig him up.
  14. A week of severe vomiting and they didnt take him to the vet?
  15. Ask the person who owns the dogs if you can see a copy of the vet report. That's your best bet.
  16. We 'city slickers' have a snake problem as well - speaking from experience. Goodluck with whatever you decide. Seems like you and your husband have to come to a compromise on what breed to get first, and goodluck with first getting rid of the pesky feral cats.
  17. I couldnt agree more. It's way too easy for people to dump their responsibilities along with their discarded animals
  18. I dont have a problem with that scenario, Sheridan, and actually think it's a great idea. Fifi did it with a woman who really wanted a wolfie but her husband had never seen one IRL. Sure enough the husband completely freaked out at the size of the dog so they were knocked on the head as potential buyers.
  19. Is there any truth to that comment about vet students in Canada? I would be pretty surprised if there is.
  20. Yes what the other posters have said. They're only blobs at the moment anyway and the time will go quicker than you think. Have fun - is this your first puppy?
  21. I'd be interested in signing that. I'm actually quite amazed that someone straight out of law school and wanting to go to the Bar needs a Master to mentor them, but a vet grad can immediately set up his/her own shingle. eta one of the comments on that petition is that vet students cannot use live animals at a Uni in Canada. Would anyone here who has signed the petition allow any vet student who had never picked up a scalpel to operate on your dog?
  22. So would I. There is no way I would let a stranger into my home to determine whether or not I am a good dog owner. edit for clarity - ofcourse if I've built up a bond with a breeder over a period of time with the purposes of buying a pup they wouldnt be a stranger (but they'd know me well enough by then not to need to do a home check I would think) but if eg they lived interstate and made a request on a forum for any tom dick or harry to come through my home, I probably would no longer be interested in buying a pup from them anyway
  23. No you most certainly canNot drive it off a cliff, set it on fire or drive a defective vehicle because you feel like it, and as has already been said, our pets are defined in law as property.
  24. And some of those miracles come about because they have been able to take the organs from a living human. You do realise those people who donate their organs arent actually 'dead' when the doctors take them, dont you? But they're about to die so they kindly donate what can be used to save someone else. It doesnt mean they havent died with dignity, does it! And if you have a problem with what might be happening in Guatemala or Egypt, put your energies there. That has nothing to do with this petition againt QU or this thread - you're just hijacking.
