Yep I totally agree with you. -
I know. I dont think anyone in OT would try to insult us by calling us kid haters ;) :D ;) Little tearies. What dreadful people we are for caring about our dogs and ask if some snot nosed kid's hands were clean before pawing our dogs before we take them into the show ring. I've never had to ask a brat if it's hands were clean before grabbing one of my dogs because most parents are actually sensible, but I am enjoying this thread.

Yep. That's the frightening bit, isnt it. Imagine if Grumpy got really grumpy and broke through the fence and bit one of those kids. All hell would break loose. Sheridan was actually asking how to deal with the situation so that it was unlikely to occur. Far out some of the carry on in this forum is quite entertaining.

Amazing, isnt it. I have well over 40 nieces and nephews - and that's just on my side of the family. I didnt get to be the fave auntie by hating children, but in my immediate world, my dogs come first, and they certainly have wayyyyy higher priority than some stranger's kid, clean hands or not. ;) :D ;) We're all kid haters. How funny.
-
What a load of crap. Not only do you assume that your child is more important to a pet owner than they're own animal, you're now branding us as kid haters. Unbelievable. Open your eyes. Your posts are really getting a tad hysterical. Are you implying that Sheridan hates children just because she was asking a question about keeping the peace between her neighbours, and her blind and old dog? Deary me. Sheridan's dog is more important to her than your child is to her. Get over it. It doesnt make her a kid hater.

Thanks Rappie. That makes sense. -
That sums it up for me. Well said. For one person it might be tens of thousands of dollars. For another it might be a few hundred. As long as the animal gets seen to by a vet rather than - I cant afford/dont want to spend the money so I just wont take Fluffy to the vet at all - that is something I dont understand. I'd rather see a dog euth'd rather than not be taken to the vet at all due to cost.

I think that's really rude, especially when you've just gone through the stress, hardship and heartache of having a dog go through expensive treatment (I'm sorry to read about your dog's predicament). The same thing happened to me when I had my dogs treated for snake bite - it's just so incredibly rude and insensitive to say to an animal owner they should have just put the dog down rather than pay the money. Where do I draw the line? I havent figured that out yet but it's a really important question and just something I tend to avoid thinking about. I really dont know. Would I have a dog's hind legs amputated and hook him up to a little cart? No but someone else would think that was important. Organ transplant? Nup. Spend 10k plus on a dog like staffyluv's who needed extensive cancer treatment if I thought he'd have a great life like Ollie post treatment? Yes. The limit of the $ amount I just dont know and will have to cross that bridge when I come to it. I wouldnt risk losing my house over vet bills but I'd sell my car and go hungry to save one of my dogs if I had to.

Friendlier as in user friendly? If I'm a member of the public wanting to buy a dog, if I type in for example, pug puppies Australia, the first thing that comes up is the pug breeder page on the main site and the person is then free to roam the profiles. Not everyone who wants to buy a puppy will dive into the forum which is a bit of a daunting place at times - they just want to start sussing out where they can get details for a breeder and the main site is very user friendly for that purpose.

I'm not sure about that, Turk. some of those judges are pretty grubby Sheridan sorted out the issue and it's actually a really good lesson for people with a neighbour who is causing them concern. Go and talk to them. Dwelling on neighbourhood issues rather than just being a bit upfront and neighbourly would stop so many headaches - and in this case it did. Good on Sheridan. Happy neighbours, Happy Grumpy. It all worked out well

My dogs do the body wag when I get home but they do the body wag when anyone visits them so I dont actually think they give a crap when I go away for a holiday. They get a holiday with the Doler who boards them and have too good a time to be wondering (wishing) I was dead Dogs dont have a concept of death anyway.

Your dog's more important to ME than some stranger's children... I have to agree with that. Jaxx doesnt have a crappy nappy and a high pitched scream.
-
ahh right that makes sense. Ta.
-
Bit of a disclaimer to my earlier post - I actually found the kids at dog shows to be pretty good. It was an adult that I had problems with wanting to touch my dog - his hands really were covered in bbq sauce. I mean really stupid. I asked him to come over to my gazebo when I finished in the ring but he called me a snob and walked off
-
Why is it so outrageous? After spending hours grooming and prepping a dog I think it's totally reasonable to ask if the child has clean hands. My guess is that you have never shown a light colored and long coated dog. Trust me, it's not easy to get jam out of an afghans coat ten mins before entering the ring. I agree with Danielle. The last thing anyone wants seconds before taking their dog in the ring is some kid OR adult with faery floss or frigging bbq sauce all over there mitts and wanting to rub them into your dog's coat. If more people had common sense, exhibitors wouldnt need to ask members of the public not to wipe grubby hands over their dogs. And my dogs are most certainly more important to me than your children. Sorry but if you dont like it, it's too bad. Not much I can do about it.

I hope you took a photo!

Errr unlikely.

There is an Australian website and they are listed in Sway's prefix search. Where's that, Janba? Ta. The only other thing I could find was a puppy ad.
-
They'd probably privatise it. Gee you'd think they'd be making a profit, though. Surely. What are the daily rates for cats and dogs? What about horses?
-
The website under that prefix I found is American

Interesting. How do you learn skills with say a scalpel or IV injections if you're only looking at pictures? I just cant comprehend how a student can gain any competence without hands on experience anymore so than I could learn to fly a plane by looking at graphics. As said earlier, I would not let a grad near my dogs if he or she had only looked at pictures in books -
I'll put my hand up. This is something I feel very passionate about (obviously I promise not to be too aggro)
-
Nice one That's really cool, Sheridan.
-
All jocularity aside, Sheridan is obviously trying to be a good neighbour and keep her dog sane at the same time. Jumping up and down over the fence, screaming at a decibel that would drop a plane out of the sky and comments like 'oohh doggy' is enough to drive anyone and their dog demented. Just go and have a chat with them, sheridan. You're not backwards in coming forwards so for the sake of your sanity and poor old Grumpy, just ask them to move the tramp (and gag their little feral children). I feel for you and the old boy. What a bloody nightmare.
-
Or it might just entice the parents to start using the trampoline. I now have a visual of naked parents romping on a trampoline. Gee thanks. I'm totally traumatised. Poor Grumpy would probably be traumatised as well
