  1. I wondered how someone as small as you got the porpoise in the car Do you ever have to shove Sparky in the back seat?
  2. Just on that point - That's a generic prohibited dog sign. I'd think you'd be pushing poop uphill with a sharp stick if you wanted to take them on. The wording is irrelevant (still a bit rude, though, but maybe dog owners have been flaunting the regulation and someone at council spat the dummy)
  3. Hmmm that's interesting - check your council website. If the woman is as upset as she comes across in your OP I'd suggest you watch your back and cover all bases (infact I'd be staying out of the park unless it's empty). This is what it says on my council website Using off-leash areas To ensure off-leash areas are safe and enjoyable for everyone, please consider other users. Keep your dog in sight Your dog must be under control by voice Pick up and dispose of all waste correctly Do not let your dog rush at or harass other dogs and people Keep your dog on a lead until it is inside the fenced area and put it back on a lead before leaving
  4. There was a rather spirited discussion on something similar in the news subforum a little while back. I agree with sandgrubber - either get involved to make some changes or at the very least, ring up your council and have a civilised chat. The upshot of the story about the defendant in the news subforum was he lost, and had to pay Council's costs. Do you want to clog up the court list for a day only to risk receiving a hefty bill? Actually I've just had a look at your council website. Unless I'm going blind, there's absolutely nothing on there about where you can and cant take your dog. Might be an idea to ring them up and ask for the regulations just as a starting point.
  5. Right on time, sandgrubber. Bub has started a thread along these lines up in general.
  6. I know it's quite amazing. It's not like they'd be rude about it and say - I'm not selling you a pup because you dont live in a flash enough suburb, you're Irish catholic, I dont like you, you dont have a nice enough car. If a particular dog and owner arent suited, the breeder would be irresponsible to sell one to them because the dog will end up bouncing back or worse, dumped.
  7. Interesting point you raise there sandgrubber, because there was a thread yesterday where breeders were accused of being elitist snobs for having a concern about where their puppies end up and whether the owner/the owner's property is suitable for a particular breed. So how can breeders do more without stepping on toes? Serious question - I cant see how they can win.
  8. No I dont think so. This seems like a pretty good tree to bark at.
  9. Yep and I must say, I was actually really impressed with the ad I heard yesterday. They know how to tug on the heart strings. Very clever marketing.
  10. :D OK where do I sign over a gazillion dollars? Interesting - only yesterday I heard a bleating ad on the radio asking for people to donate to save all the little furries dumped at xmas time. What on earth do they do with all of their dough? oh that's right...lots of advertising space on commercial tv and radio.
  11. :D I'm sorry Kirty. I just splurked coffee all over my goddamn screen!
  12. You know what's funny - when Rescue vets a home and knocks them back because they're unsuitable, they're being responsible. When a breeder does it, they're being elitist snobs. I just dont get it. :D Woofen, for what it's worth I dont think you have crazy expectations. You sound like a great breeder whose priorities are with your puppies! Good on you.
  13. Sure for sure. The email to the breeder was really sad but at the end of the day the breeder knows if they want to sell a pup or not. She obviously isnt comfy selling a dog to an apartment life so it's her call.
  14. Gretymate isnt a breeder. What on earth are you on about? More insulting crap from you. You might want to read the forum rules before you continue
  15. Not in this house! I don't know where people get these couch potato Staffords from. Both mine have been very high energy and always on the go. Maybe try owning one at a time? Urmmm...Clyde owns one
  16. Isnt it amazing. This is an entire forum full of people who have managed to buy from pedigree breeders. Only one person seems to think you guys are elitist bastards
  17. As I said earlier - too bad, really. If they were offended by a breeder's response, it was probably for very good reason. It's not like breeders say 'RARRRRRR No you cant have one of my puppies because you dont live in Vaucluse'. They say no because they dont think their pup is suited to the prospective owner...for whatever reason.
  18. Look I totally understand and that's a good question. The people I know who have bought from a BYBer or petshop did so because they thought 'real breeder' (their words, not mine) only supplied showies or other breeders, not pet owners, and certainly not because some discriminating elitist registered breeder said no to them. they never thought to ring a registered breeder to start with.
  19. Yes I agree with this. I have terriers and would never clip them but strip them. The double coat is designed to be a temperature control unit. Clipping it destroys the temp control (so I have been told by die hard terrier men).
  20. Too bad, really. Some breeders wont sell to someone living in an apartment. Some breeders wont sell to someone who rents. Some breeders wont sell to a buyer who indicates they wont pay for vet treatment. And some breeders wont sell to someone who doesnt have adequate fencing. What's the problem?
  21. Yes it's becoming pretty apparent why breeders might have a blank stare when he asks them about discrimination when selling a puppy to a forever home, isnt it.
  22. Good point. So if a breeder says no to selling someone a puppy based on unsuitable fencing, is that discrimination? is seems to some people any time a breeder says no it's discrimination Exactly! I think you're the one who needs to put the keyboard down, Braithwaite. You're the one with the issue about who breeders sell their puppies to.
  23. Good point. So if a breeder says no to selling someone a puppy based on unsuitable fencing, is that discrimination?
  24. Ofcourse I care that breeders care who they sell to. Why wouldnt I? Poor breeders get bashed regardless of what they do. Make sure a home is suitable - get bashed. Sell to any Tom Dick or Harry - get bashed. They cant win, can they. Thanks for confirming why I'll never become a breeder.
