What a gorgeous thing to do. I'm so sorry about your Grandpa, shell

What a ridiculous thing to say on a public forum.

Would You Take A Class In Reading Dog Body Language?

Yup if Steve was teaching it I would love to take my dogs along because he's brilliant with animal psychology. -

yup. -
You've already been told - read the forum rules

What difference would it have made if she told you prior? If she wanted one enough to put a deposit on a pup and started paying it off, she would have done it regardless of what you said. Sounds to me like this wasnt an impulse buy.

Wow he got on his hands and knees and that was the best photo he could come up with? If that's a koala I'm a monkey's uncle.

Oh for goodness sake the dog has escaped death row and 200 homes have put their hand up for him but all you can do is focus on the negative. Good on him - his time obviously wasnt up.

sure but tell that to your dogs if they get envenomated by one, SC. It's not a happy experience. -
I would actually give her another go, Roova. She was really polite in her knock back so she seems like a nice lady. I would say something along the lines of - I realise now I was a bit exhuberant with my questions but I'm really passionate about getting the right pup or something like that, and add a blurb that if she didnt think she could help in that regard, would she mind recommending another breeder. Failing that I would ask on this forum for recommendations for that breed.
-
I didnt mean in a stalkerish way - I meant in a lengthy over detailed way I think it's great you're putting so much thought into this.
-
On price, I would check the breed page for the breed here for the puppy sales to see if a price is mentioned, otherwise I'd ask here on the forum for a ballpark figure before starting my emails to breeders just to get a rough idea
-
Sorry Roova but I was thinking 'far out if I was a breeder and sold this person a puppy she'd probably be sending me war and peace size updates about the pup every week' I think you've got to remember that if you're looking at a popular breed, the breeders you'll be contacting might be getting stacks of email enquiries so lengthy emails might get sent to the bottom of the queue. I would do it this way Hi my name is bla bla bla give a short intro about you, no kids, big fenced yard, interested in the breed because then ask if there's a suitable time to call breeder for a chat. Keep your email short and to the point.

What Pav said. I'm not surprised the first breeder said see ya later but as clyde said, good on you for putting so much thought into it.

What's the evolutionary requirement for that, SC? I mean it's not like it's a life saving device. -
Don't know - don't visit gumtree . So what? The more ethical breeders who advertise on there the better. Then the average person wanting to buy a well bred dog knows where to go to get one.
-
I was thinking the same thing, sandgrubber. Pretty big loophole if that's the case, isnt it.

How do they get by appendix 1 listing on CITES for the bengal tigers?

Nice one. When we had to take Cakes to emergency the stupid young vet left the consulting room door open while a young woman was bawling her eyes out. Really bloody distressing for everyone in the waiting room already stressed out about sick animals. Another dog owner turned to me and asked why on earth the idiot didnt just close the bloody door and give her some privacy. Really poor form.
-
ahh good thinking, Cas. I was actually looking at it from the other side and thinking if someone was so easily influenced by that article and turned off getting a particular breed because of it they probably didnt understand the breed to start with so a good thing they didnt get one.

What a shame the author didnt get his rego. Gut wrenching letter to the editor. Her poor daughter and the driver of the car.

The Law gives standing to the fact that I OWN my dogs - as it should. My obligation to provide for their welfare is totally different to the issue of whether or not they have Rights. They dont have Rights anymore than my fridge does. My ownership gives me the Rights over them. The day they get to decide what they eat, when they get vet treatment, if they get to keep their balls and kill the neighbours' cats etc is the day I no longer have Rights over them.

Great post, dog fan. If animals had rights according to Ingrid Newkirk and her loonie cronies our dogs would all be roaming free.
