Looks like the OP has left this burning building. Cant say I blame her. Calling strangers on the net psychopaths, idiots, criminals and subhuman because they responded to a hypothetical? Seriously? I doubt very much anyone knows what on earth they'd do in that scenario but it has little to do with the OP anyway.
-
I wonder if she is going to need hair of the dog after arriving home to this catfight
-
Oh give me a break. It's not a slum in Haiti. It's the USA. Bloody disgraceful that a cutsie little propaganda film has been made about street dogs in LA - Nawww how wonderful that she's looking after her puppies who will probably get flattened on the road - when our vets and vaccines are going to developing countries to try to combat the street dog problem - good on them, too. Maybe they should start with sterilising Peta idiots in LA.
-
I think it's really shocking, especially in a country that has rabies...(and so many rabid Peta supporters who think this is a great thing to see dogs running free in a city rather than be owned by a human - and it was probably Peta that made this film).
-
I think that's disgusting in a western country. Why arent these dogs taken off the streets and desexed.
-
The OP did take defensive action to protect her little old dog in the face of an aggressive child. Well done to her. She was obviously totally aware of her surroundings and prevented both her dog from being rough handled and the kid from being bitten or snapped at by a startled old dog.
-
I know what people said. The parent/caretaker was totally in the wrong because she was completely blase about 1. the kid storming through a carpark unsupervised and 2. shoving the OP around when she tried to manage the situation, especially with an elderly dog on lead. Unacceptable on both counts. If the dog had bitten the kid in self defence, getting back to the legal question, and the parent had decided to crap on about the dog 'mauling' the kid in an unprovoked attack, without witnesses you've got one guess who would have worn the brunt of it. The same would have happened if the kid had been backed over by a car.
-
Excellent point, Snook. Or if this had been an irresponsible owner letting their dog run around loose in a carpark and jump all over a frightened kid, people would be screaming for blood (as they should).

I think I just fell in love with you for this comment. I was gonna write that raz but decided I would probably get flamed for it.. I dont care if they flame me for it, SL. I think it's incredibly irresponsible to let a kid run through a carpark to touch a stranger's dog, and when told No, do nothing when the kid rough handles the owner. How do we know the OP isnt a tiny little woman being pushed around by an adolescent teenager. All dogs have teeth and can bite when startled. All cars have wheels that can run over an out of control kid. I think it's really stupid and irresponsible of the parent/nanny/Aunt - whoever she was, and the posters saying we're all being insensitive. If that old little dog had been startled by the aggressive kid and turned around to defend itself, who would be the worse off today? The poor damn owner who was doing her best to try to contain the situation and as an earlier poster said, this thread would be in the news subforum in a sensational article about a kid getting 'mauled'. I'm totally for the OP in this situation - not the caretaker who wasnt taking care and not the people who are having a boohoo about the comments.
-
How about a good dose of perspective, reality and compassion for the OP. She was minding her own business walking her on lead dog through A CARPARK when an unsupervised kid put her old, blind and deaf dog at risk, then started shoving her around because she asked him not to touch the dog. Where was the parental or carer supervision when this happened - too far behind if the kid had been bitten or run over by someone backing out of a parking bay.
-
Mini, I havent had my morning coffee yet so a bit cranky but I saw an out of control kid in the local carpark yesterday almost get skittled by a reversing car and the same thing - the mother was just so nonchalant by the event. Poor driver wasnt though. It's just an accident waiting to happen not to have kids under control in carparks, on the road, rushing up and startling strange dogs or jumping into shark infested waters. Some parents need to pull their heads out of the bex induced clouds they seem to live in
-
So what happens if you're walking your dog on the other side of the street and the kid runs under the wheels of a car in his determination to pat the dog? autistic or not the kids in the situations described above should have been under adequate supervision. To the OP, I think you did really well. The pushing and shoving would have been pretty unsettling with your little old dog on lead at your feet, especially when the mother/carer didnt seem to care an ounce that the kid was being aggro, and in a bloody carpark. I'm sick of parents letting their kids loose in shopping centre carparks and then want to blame 4WDrivers who cant see them behind their car as they back out of a bay. We have to take responsibility for our dogs. How about bloody parents keep their uncontrollable children on lead.

Have they checked with the landlord if they can have a dog, and have they discussed what happens when the lease is up and they need to find another dog friendly rental? There are a lot of threads on here about tenants having a lot of problems finding pet friendly rentals so might be worth doing a search and showing your friend those unless their next house will be their own.

Great to see all the handlers congratulating him.

How on earth did she end up with 70 stitches and 4 hours of surgery? The dog gave a warning snap by the look of it - he didnt chew her face off.
-
Oh my, how revenge is sweet. That'll teach you for giving me a pug that knows how to jump on the dining room table. Suffer, biatch!
-
I really love the bit about breeding true because she sticks them in a room, turns the lights down and plays some Barry White...and she always has puppies so they must breed true
-
That must have been made by a dogzonline member. Brilliant.

Bendigo Man Threatens To Kill Pet Cats If They Wander Into His Yard
raz replied to Peace_Of_Mind's topic in In The News
Funny you should mention that. My car IS locked in the garage, only ever goes out and about with me, is not allowed to roam, get into fights with other cars, does not breed a fleet of little cars whenever it wants, does not crap or dig in neighbours' gardens, and has also never caused an injury or death to a person or domestic pet. Can the same be said of your cats? I think anyone who flattens a roaming cat on the road should take out a Civil Claim for damage to the car as well as go for emotional pain and suffering for the trauma it causes when someone has to scrape it off the road like in Teebs' situation where she's obviously still traumatised by the shocking experience. -

Sure so send them all to Bendigo. I'm sure 'the Bendigo man' will take care of them if they spray on his doors, crap in his garden, kill native wildlife for fun, have cat fights in the middle of the night with other mad humans and roll on the tarmac infront of passing cars. -

Most Australians will test positive to toxo because we live in close proximity to agriculture. Does that mean we'll all end up with late onset schizophrenia? That's the BBC palming off mad cows' disease in England  . Even so - contain your cats. I take no responsibility if a wandering cat comes in my yard and my dogs kill it and I'm certainly not going to swerve to hit a cat on the road in the middle of the night and risk wrapping myself around a pole. If your wandering cat dies - too bad. Keep the bloody thing indoors! -
Ofcourse I absolutely agree but it was still damn hypocritical of Ludwig if guidelines here arent enforced. No one can tell me he doesnt know what goes on - I recall another abbattoir being closed in Victoria late last year due to horrific cruelty to pigs. As I said in my first response to Sam - it's always easier to point the finger elsewhere. It takes the focus off our own backyard which is exactly what all the jumping up and down about Indonesia did.
-
Tha Animals Australia video in Indonesia was also taken in a private abbattoir but people here were so busy screaming about poor Bryan the Aussie bull they forgot to look in their own backyard. Pretty amazing, isnt it.
-
Unfortunately I think those grants probably all went to upgrading Indonesian abbattoirs while everyone here was screaming after last year's Animals Australia hysterics that it doesnt happen in Australian abbattoirs. This is a case of - It doesnt happen in our backyard - and while people were pointing the finger elsewhere, it all got pushed under the carpet here. Political brownie points at the time and it will all come home to roost now.
