New puppy??? What breed?

I actually went into a PP a couple years back and asked if they buy from Puppy Farms. They told me "no, of course not". They said their puppies came from "accidental breedings" and "family hobby breeders". Uh-huh, sure they do.

I was coming home from dropping kids at school and as I turned into my street (my street is very wide, with a huge grass verge in the middle), a young (under 12 months) german shepherd came running across the road. Myself and another car almost hit it. I stopped and got out the car. I called it and it ran to the middle of the road. I had been shopping, so got the salami out of the grocery bag to try and entice it. No dice. I went back to my car and sat and watched it for a minute. It wandered about and went into the yard of a house. A horrible man came out and yelled at it so the poor dog bolted across the road again, once again being narrowly missed by a car. I got out of the car again and tried to approach it, salami in hand. I got close enough to see it was a girl before it took off. She went into the yard of a house and straight up to the door. I watched her for a while, but no one was coming to the door. I looked at the windows, no curtains. I thought about what to do while I watched her and finally called the council. She sounded completely uninterested until I said "It's a big dog." She asked what kind and I said "German shepherd". She said "Oh! Well, I'll get the dog catcher straight out there. Do you know if it's friendly?". I said "I don't know the dog, but it didn't try to rip my arm off if that's what you're asking. It's scared, because it keeps darting across the road and being narrowly missed by cars". After I got off the phone, I did a u turn and went to the house. The dog was in the front yard and once again, I tried to call her. No dice. I could see through the windows - NO furniture in the house Nothing out the front. Poor pup was going up to the door and looking at it. Why do people do this? The dog had no collar, and I'm willing to bet, was not chipped or desexed (this area, I doubt the owners would have). I just hope the council guys get there before she gets hit by a car!

Do you want me to see if my sister will do the SS draw? That way no one knows who anyone has!

My beautiful lappie is a chewer. Last night she got to my daughters purple suede boots and chewed them. She also got to the kids plastic bowling set. We don't leave things out...the bloody dog is too smart and learned how to OPEN THE DOORS!!! We have lever type handles and she jumps up and opens them! I couldn't figure how she was doing it until I hid and watched the bugger. Wardrobes are sliding doors and easy to open. She has toys, but she'd rather chew on our stuff. Yep, she has chewed library books too - which were on a shelf in my robe.

LOVE that vid! Made me cry (naturally). The boy looks like he has some pei in him.

Are we buying for dogs or people this year? And I was thinking...I voted BBQ, but we always do a BBQ. It means someone has to cook it. So what about something different, each bringing a plate?

I've used dogtainers, but I didn't know they did overseas! Anyone else?

I had a question from someone in another forum so thought I'd ask here. I don't know much about transporting pets overseas! Just wondering if you can help me. We're moving to USA in Jan & need O/S transport our RRidgy as well. She'll come & join us about 4wks after we leave (so we can find a house etc). Have you heard of Adelar Pet Boarding in Leppington & their business Skypet? What sort of rep do they have? Do you know of any other O/S pet transporters that are good? Anyone know anything I can tell her?

I didn't know pitbulls came in a 4.5kg, long haired, fluffy white package??? AND...the breeder is SO in trouble. He told me my other dog was a lapphund! That's it. I'm suing him for misrepresentation.

I have to confess, Snik came to me trained. That is Jeff and Jill's doing. She is a brilliant dog and really wants to please. She's slotted in beautifully and never causes much angst. I was quite surprised myself that she listens so well. I rarely have to repeat myself with her. Now if she can just train that into the kids... I fully trust her with the kids. She was in the lounge with my daughter and I today and my daughter was cuddling her (read:laying on her) saying "I love you Nik Nik" and Snik was just laying there quietly, looking at me like "um, help??"

Give her time Ker, she is still a baby With some of them they get a bit more confident when they get older. And some, esp with the girls, are naturally a little more submissive than others - each of my Lappies has a different personality, but all are typical in their own way! I don't want her to change :rolleyes: I love her softness.

Jaana is definitely more confident than Snik. WA, I think Snik's temperament is gorgeous too :rolleyes:

We may have a new addition to the meets too - Kennedy's new owners, Sam and Steven! She joined DOL and said she wants to come to the Nov meet.

What area do you work in harley? Maybe if we make it earlier, say 11am, you could come for a while?
