  1. Ummm the longest expiry date allowed by law and also from the manufacturer is 4 years also advantix is not manufactured in an 8 pack qty anywhere in the world. I would be very suspicious of your product. Also overseas meds are banned from importation to Australia and can be intercepted at entry points. Currently there is a blitz on unapproved animal health products by the Australian govt. they are not registered here and subsequently are illegal imports.

  3. No collar (including the new Scalibor collar) are suitable for dogs that swim often. The active ingredients in collars are disseminated throughout the coat and skin. Water removes the actives from the coat and skin and leaves animals unprotected for 48 hours after reapplying the collar, the time it takes for the actives to re-disseminate throughout the coat. (Unlike topically that disseminate and go through the skin to the various areas the different brands are designed to go ie advantix goes to the lipid layer of skin ( below the surface) and the lipid layer is water resistant. Frontline goes to the bloodstream along with residuals in the epidermis. The current collars, ie preventic, kiltix and scalibor have lower efficacy than topicals. Collars are approx preventic 74% Kiltix 92% Scalibor 81% Topicals: Advantix 98% fortnightly application Frontline 62% fortnightly application Frontline spray 87% sprayed externally once every 2-3 weeks Permoxin 67% sprayed every 3-5 days Advantix is the only one that repels as well as kills. No product is 100% for paralysis ticks and DAILY SEARCHING IS STILL REQUIRED EVEN WITH PREVENTATIVES. NONE OF THESE PRODUCTS ARE SUITED FOR CATS Frontline may be used on cats with veterinary advice. Hope this helps
  4. Ticks are MOST DEFINATELY on the move to areas not previously known for or affected by Paralysis ticks. Sale is one of the new hot spots along with the ACT and further south and inland than ever before. In the ACT recently a human bushwalker was discovered with several ticks attached and a search of the area never previously affected, revealed a large tick population. Be viglant as the reported cases already this year are exceeding all of last years cases.
  5. Lipid Layers not only produce hair follicles but also skin cell development. Most topical applications that disseminate to and from the lipid layer, also reside on the hair and dander and skin surrounds. However reiterating my original suggestion of contacting the customer service helpline and the vets can advise you correctly. An interesting question and I will be studying more for my own interests on this. Also for further environmental tick contol you could use Solfac Pro diluted and sprayed around your yard for 3 month residual effect for treatment of ticks. Have fun gardening and I hope you Cresty is safe in the interim.
  6. The spot ons work their way into the lymph system and spread through the skin, so lack of hair follicles shouldn't matter it would be more the sensitivity of the Crestie's skin that would be a problem. Spot on treatments do NOT go into the lymph systems. They disseminate and go to the lipid layer of skin. Re a Cresty being hairless, the actives would go to the lipid layer. however May I suggest a call to the customer information line on 1800678368 to get correct technical support from the vets re this.
  7. Ticks are most definatley more numerical than ever before. Great advice above just needed to add that re SCALIBOR collars they are not effective for the first 14 days and also The effect of swimming, bathing or shampooing on efficacy has not been established. The collar should be removed before swimming, bathing or shampooing the dog because the active substance is harmful to fish and other aquatic organisms. Do not rely on the collar for dogs that swim often or have been bathed. Please be vigilant with your animals.
  8. Don't allow the cat to come into contact with permethrin when it is wet or damp. Cats cannot metabolise permethrin. I would suggest you use coopex. You purchase in a sachet and make up a spray bottle . Or alternatively a product called slam. It treats all stages of fleas and is safe to use indoors too, as is coopex . Both these have a 3 month residual effect too.

  10. That is interesting. Have you tried taking her for a walk after applying it? Maybe worth one more try. ticks are still rampant in most areas even with the cold weather approaching so would hate to see her become a victim.
  11. Comfortis is not suitable for breeding animals and Scalibor takes a minimum 2 -3 weeks before some protection for Paralysis ticks occurs, topically applied treatments are proven to be the most effective flea treatments available when used with compliance ie applied religiously monthly to ensure the environmental flea stages are kept under control.
  12. Some dogs show signs of agitation when topical products are applied and it can be due to the sensation they feel while the product is disseminating to the lipid layer of skin where it needs to be to be effective. The feeling a dog can get is likened to "someone walking over your grave" or tingling, pins and needles, or a cold breeze reaction and is not painful at all. Some dogs cannot understand this feeling and react strangely. Some dogs/cats soon relate it to the packet being produced and/or the owners mindset that the product application is "altering" their dogs behaviour somehow. If there are no physical signs or side effects visible then maybe your dog is reacting to this foreign sensation. I know one of our dogs likes to roll, twitch and be a touch restless for a short period of time after application (sometimes an hour or so) and we are fascinated just watching and observing her reactions (there is no pain involved whatsoever). I now take her walking after applying to distract her during this time. Humans reactions to the "ohh someone just walked over my grave" experience are equally interesting to watch. I hope this helps.
  13. Advantix has 2 active ingredients, Imidicloprid and PERMETHRIN not Permoxin. Permoxin is a product (brand name) that contains Permethrins. Permethrins are not suitable for use on cats. Cats cannot metabolize permethrins.
  14. How can the transport co. be negligent in their duty of care. The owners would have shipped the dog regardless. The owners made the decision to proceed despite the warnings. Animal travel had the dog in airconditioning and even had the required vet clearances and last minute Aquis requirements done at an air conditioned vet and held the dog here until the last minute. then that is only a 5 minute drive from the airport lodgement counters. Once lodged, sometimes 4 hours prior to departure, the duty of care has moved to the airline and their cargo handlers. No neglect or duty of care breach on animal travels behalf.
  15. After reading that terribly sad story 2 questions arise 1. Why decide to relocate or fly a brachy breed in summer and 2 . I can't see where animal travel have erred? If anyone has exported dogs, lodgement to the airline cargo customs for exports means loading hours before departure and signing the dog over to flight handlers. From that point animal travel would have had no responsibility for poor dog. From that point I would imagine he was, as the writer stated "left in a hot shed" . I cannot see any negligence on animal travels part here and offer ken my compassion here. No handler no owner and no dog lover should have to have endured this heart wrenching event. And certainly the poor little Frenchmen did not deserve this whatsoever. Once handed over they are quarantined and no access is granted to anyone other than the cargo handler that puts them on the plane. Cargo handlers have no animal husbandry experience and are merely unwilling observers of this ridiculous non caring procedure. Loads of negligence but none I BELEIVE due to animal travel for having not been anything other than fulfilling their claims the writer stated in his opening. RIP puppy power
  16. This may help jed. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Imidacloprid The differing areas of use also use differing methods of delivery and vastly different quantities of active ingredients, so you should only use the product designed for the intended use. Ie topical animal prod for animals, plant sticks for plants, liquid concentrate for trees eat etc
  17. Rosetta I'm not trying to sell anything here, merely responding to the subject heading. Dramatic is when a dogs life is hanging in the balance from paralysis tick bite. All dogs in prone areas should be protected by any product designed for the purpose. Sensible owners should not rely soley on hearsay, gossip or forums for factual information, it is often someone's personal opinion that can be tainted with incorrect beliefs. Forums are a discussion - some participate and are interesting to see, some should be disregarded. Take what you want from it. When wild accusations or distorted inaccuracies are posted I, like you, can respond. Keep to the subject and why slander a poster? Generalisations like yours are not at all accurate. I respect it is YOUR opinion only.
  18. And re waterproofing, This is the whole copy off the bayer web site not cropped Does advantix retain its efficacy after the dog has been swimming or has had a bath? Yes, advantix retains its efficacy after the dog has been swimming or has had a bath. After repeated immersion and swimming it maintains a killing activity of 97.9 - 100% on ticks and 92.5-100% on fleas. After a bath 97.4-100% of fleas are killed. Can a reduction in efficacy be observed in dogs treated with advantix which swim frequently? To evaluate this, studies were carried out which provided for complete immersion of the dog in water for 60 seconds at weekly intervals. advantix is distributed over the body surface and remains in the lipid stratum which has hydrophobic properties; like all products of this type it is subject to the impact that the duration of baths has on the animal's skin. Lengthy and frequent baths involve increased cutaneous exchange with greater dilution of the lipid stratum and a consequent reduction in the concentration of product present in this stratum. The product remains efficacious even if the animal takes a bath. However, in the case of prolonged and frequent exposure to water, it may be necessary to repeat the treatment more than once a month, up to a maximum of once a week. Does a bath with shampoo (products to counter seborrhoea) reduce the efficacy of advantix? What can one do about it? The vehicle of advantix, which binds to and transports imidacloprid and permethrin, is organic and of an oily appearance and it means that it can be distributed over the body surface of the dog in the lipid film which covers the skin and coat. This dispersion takes some hours to spread to the whole body and some days to reach the deep strata of cutaneous epithelial tissue and the sebaceous glands. The use of a normal shampoo before application of the product or a week after this application has not been shown to reduce the efficacy of advantix significantly. It is probable, on the contrary, that sebolytic products may, because of their ability to remove sebum (= lipid film), significantly reduce the efficacy of the product. In that case, advantix can be applied again up to a maximum of once a week. We are talking about PARALYSIS TICKS here WHICH KILL DOGS. NO TICK PRODUCT IS 100% So a 97.9% efficacy after swimming everyday could leave that small gap ie a 2.1% risk that STILL REQUIRES DAILY SEARCHING. And in Australia we use TICK PRODUCTS FORTNIGHTLY for Paralysis Ticks. Re sebolytic products - these are products that traditionally "strip" oils from coat ie flea shampoos, seboliyse ect etc. or shampoos for skin problems/treatments should be avoided where possible. Normal Shampoo is fine I hope this helps
  19. LOL really. I gave you the facts, to dispell your hearsay. Gossip and 2nd hand information v fact mmmmmm I know I went to Uni for something. I cant stand to see old wives tales and gossip potentially cause animals to suffer so much prefer to talk with fact and proof THANKS
  20. Yes I would have thought it was a reasonable question too Sheena. On this forum it seems to depend on who asks it though :) Seen other - milder - claims on other threads receive very aggressive demands for all sorts of documented "proof". I am genuinely interested in further information regarding this - as most would be. Though apparently if you have not discovered it for yourself you are not allowed to ask about it :D Thing is if I had discovered it (the information on generics being dangerous) then I wouldn't have to ask :) Maybe who made that comment could help us out a little & point us in the right direction...a link...maybe. Obviously the chemists & my family doctor don't know about it, & that's a bit of a worry Here is a snippet of the MILLIONS of media reports re these issues and more. It is a vast and complex issue worldwide Hope this helps *****excerpt******* In the United States, companies can get a new patent for a drug by altering its formula or changing its dosage. The companies contend that even minor improvements in medicines — changing a pill dosage to once a day instead of twice a day — can have a significant impact on patient wellness. But critics say a majority of drug patents given in the United States are for tiny changes that often provide patients few meaningful benefits but allow drug companies to continue charging high prices for years beyond the original patent life. They point to AstraZeneca, for example, which extended for years its franchise around the huge-selling heartburn pill Prilosec by slightly altering the chemical structure and renaming the medicine Nexium. Amgen has won so many patents on its expensive erythropoietin-stimulating drugs that the company has maintained exclusive sales rights for 24 years, double the usual period. A result of this practice is that the United States pays the highest drug prices in the world, prices that only a tiny fraction could afford in India, where more than two-thirds of the population lives on less than $2 a day. While advocates for the pharmaceutical industry argue that fairly liberal rules on patents spur innovation, a growing number of countries are questioning why they should pay high prices for new drugs. Argentina and the Philippines have passed laws similar to the one enacted in India, placing strict limits on patents. And Brazil and Thailand have been issuing compulsory licenses for AIDS drugs for years under multilateral agreements that allow such actions on public health grounds. As the economies of emerging markets grow, the countries’ refusal to pay higher premiums for newer drugs could significantly reduce the money needed for innovation. The drug industry makes more than a third of its sales in the United States, a dependence that many in the industry fear is unsustainable, especially since sales of prescription drugs actually dropped in the United States in 2012, according to the research firm IMS Health. Sales in emerging markets like Brazil and China are expected to account for 30 percent of global pharmaceutical spending by 2016, up from 20 percent in 2011, according to IMS Health.
  21. Widespread reports do not equate to widespread reactions in dogs. Internet Vets (those non qualified folk who search for information themselves, rather than present the dog to a qulaified veterinarian when needed) usually read the gossip and twist it to be a fact. Fact shows Advantix to be the safest tick product in the world. with less than 0.02% of reactions reported and noted. Interestingly, most cases of adverse skin reactions in dogs is proven in over 78% of cases, to be caused by Auto Immune issues (mostly undetected until investigation) in the dogs affected. If your dog has a reaction to ANY product you should report it to the manufacturer ASAP when the problem occurs. Then perhaps look for the reason why. Generalised statements such as yours are pollywaffle. Protection against parasites is paramount to dogs and cats good health and can in fact SAVE THEIR LIFE.....
  22. Rather an ironic statement Oakway especially when one of the recommendations is to look at ways to make it easier for people with pets to get rental properties Renters with Pets will most certainly benefit from the proposed changes re Landlords not being able to refuse tenants Pets as per their tenant conditions ( Many dogs are turned to the Pounds due to Landlords saying "dog goes or you go" HOWEVER I think Oakway was talking about Dogs NSW members that rent ie BREEDERS that would not comply to the kennel requirements of the new proposal. Many of the Stalwarts and Pioneers of dog breeding or exhibition may rent their premises NOT own them. THey will be severely hampered.
  23. Highly unlikely the advantix would cause this. Even if she had ingested some, she would have shown symptoms of frothing at the mouth, no GI involvement at all. I would mix 1 teaspoon of Cornflour with a small amount of water and syringe it all down the throat, this helps to bind the loose stools and is a natural antibiotic that assists to replace irritated gut linings or irritated Gastro Intest tracts. Hope shes feeling better
  24. Hey Stolzsein Pm me for help to sort it all out for you. :)
