  1. I would vouch for that having lost an older dog to lymphoma some 12 months after he had a C5 vaccination.
  2. And I think C3 is as per C4 but without the Parainfluenza.........
  3. "Fully immunised" and C5 vaccinations don't stop your dog from contracting Canine Cough. My 13 month old goldie is just about over a dose of it - he started coughing and vomitting last Friday night. Vet said there are 38 strands of Canine Cough and the C5 only covers the TWO most common strands. My dog had a C5 six months ago. We won't bother again. My other goldie is 5 years old - they both drink out of the same bowl and are forever mouthing each other when playing - so far he is as fit as a Malley Bull! No sign of Canine Cough at all.......so I believe a lot has to do with their immune system regardless of vaccinations. My young boy is the one who plays with all the other regular dogs at the park - which is where he must have picked up the virus - none of those dogs have so far come up with Canine Cough. My vet said dogs can be carriers but never show any symptoms......
  4. Does that make the whole yard stink of neem though? I'm not sure which would be worse! This stuff doesn't have a particularly strong smell - and the smell it does have is not unpleasant. I think I know which one I prefer
  5. Donkey??!! Chicken and white rice for my elimination diet - then we added in other foods that were not previously in his normal diet. Beef was a definite no-no. Others have said any red meat should be eliminated then later reintroduced to see what affect if any there may be however I did feed lamb bones about once a week.
  6. I use BBQ chicken for Obedience training, but otherwise it's currently cat food kibble - Purina One fish flavour - left over from when I had cats - dogs love it!
  7. I use Neem Kennel cleaner - great all purpose stuff. www.neemaus.com.au
  8. This might sound weird but try adding some cooked pumpkin to his mince and rice meal - it's loaded with fibre and while there is no real nutritional value in it, the soft bulk will help with constipation. You've met my Dougal Dog - he gets constipated often and it's usually too many bones - as in marrow or lamb bones - I'm sure he steals Duncan's as well which adds to the problem. I give him roast pumpkin and a good handful of kibble (Coprice) regularly - he seems to need the bulk to keep his bowels moving. My advice, rather than eliminating current foods, is to add higher fibre foods.
  9. One more thing about ACV - you need to buy the mother stuff - it has a little sediment in the bottom. You'll find it either in the organic section in the supermarket or at the health food shop - either way, it's not expensive at all.
  10. Natural diet I believe to be effective. You can use the ACV both internally and externally - but not on broken skin 1 tsp of ACV a day either in drinking water or better mixed in with food.
  11. Was there quite a bit of fat on the frame? It varies greatly with the ones I get and I'm not so keen on giving so much fat. Otherwise ?????? I wouldn't be too bothered myself unless it happens on a regular basis. I had cats for years before I went the dogs - the former used to spew regularly so when one of the dogs does it these days, I just curse at having to clean it up - never really stop to think why it might have happened.
  12. Hey Riverstar I go to Beta Valet Wholesale petfood outlet. Railway Rd, Welshpool They sell frozen dog food - chicken necks, roo, mince etc. Best of all they sell cartons of 20 chicken carcasses for $6! Not small ones either. I have to leave the carton out for a day or so to thaw, then freeze the carcasses individually. They sell other stuff there too, but it's only a small place, set up primarily to service retail outlets, they just sell direct to the public as well (and of course at half the price!)
  13. You could try Rescue Remedy to calm him down before travel. If he isnt vomiting it sounds like he isnt so much motion sick than anxious. Cavandra is right. Most car sick dogs are usually anxious, not suffering from motion sickness. Rescue Remedy is well known to be extremely effective for such situations.
  14. Canned food is like Maccas for your dog! Used for emergencies, but they think it's a delight!
  15. JUst bumped another thread on Rimadyl for you.
  16. Hi everyone Not that I am promoting the use of canned food, but I always have a few cans in the cupboard for cases of emergency........and I have read here that if anyone is going to use canned food at all, Nature's Gift is the best one. Well Coles have the large tins on special this week for 99cents! (that's here in Perth anyway)
  17. I have just been talking to my cousin (who is vet trained but not working as a vet) about my 4 year old Goldie who has what appears to be arthritis but not sure. I mentioned I was taking him to the vet to get his limp checked out and the immediate response was DO NOT USE RIMADYL!! Google it and you will find a host of bad stories about the fatal effects it has. My cousin said if I decide to use what the vet prescribes, use Metacam (interesting to hear another post's experience with it though so that has put me right off!) Have a look at this website www.brookbyherbs.co.nz Look under Dog Health and then look for Free Mover Otherwise check out www.herbal-treatments.com.au (Robert McDowell's website for natural herbal remedies. You may only have an acute problem at present, but many Goldies and other breeds end up with arthritis so you may find this info useful in years to come.
  18. Just to note, tuna is a very low fat fish as it doesn't have a lot of oil in it. Sardines and mackeral are oily fish along with salmon. I find sardines the least expensive.
  19. I boarded my GRs at showdog's kennels, and she did a great job with them before they came home. Just PM showdog - she is in Canning Vale. ILoveFlatCoats here has also used her. Where in Perth are you as I may know someone closer in case you are at the opposite end of the city to Canning Vale!
  20. Why do you want to feed anchovies? Sardines are much cheaper and it's the oil in them that is beneficial! I feed my boys sardines once or twice a week - just a tin each (they are goldies). Don't know about anchovies except that they are very salty. I'd save them for my Caesar salad!
  21. Pumpkin is a good filler as well and because it isn't being absorbed, there's no calorie value in it. I give mine roast pumpkin and they think it's Xmas!
