  1. So I am about to get a 6 month old Norwich girl......and she will be spayed of course, sooner rather than later but...... The breeder suggested letting her have her first season before spaying her whereas I was talking to my vet last night (who has 25 years of experience and has been wonderful with my boy) - she recommended getting Floss desexed before her first season as it almost 100% reduces the risk of mammary cancer apparently. Can anyone tell me what is the benefit of letting a bitch have her first season before being spayed? Is it a myth like letting them have a litter of puppies first, sort of thing? Or is it common practice? I have only ever had males who have all been desexed as soon as they came to me if not before. That was so easy to deal with! I will likely follow the breeders recommendations (as she is family) but I want to make sure I am indeed doing the best thing for my new little dog, and I am interested in the thoughts and ideas about when is the best time to spay a bitch. Thanking you in advance. :D
  2. In my Woolies, it's in the frozen foods section, not the petfood section - so it's in the freezers with other frozen petfood just a bit fuerther down from the ice cream
  3. I thought it said preservative free on the packet Might have to go look now.
  4. Yes, my boy was happy with them - mind you he'd eat anything, it's not like he is fussy They are good value though
  5. What about Bonnie Working Dog? Not premium I know but I used to feed Bonnie Light (along with raw, eggs and sardines) to my first Goldie and he flourished on it. He went from this: To this:
  6. That would make a good and healthy, nutritious Xmas dinner for them! (Lots of great oils there )
  7. Can't stop crying here either. You couldn't have done any more Kirty. It just wasn't your fault. She was so lucky to have you to do the right thing by her at the end and she will have known that for sure. Big hugs to you.
  8. Surely you could come up with 100 bucks??? Yes I could, but what I was saying was I would hate to be in a position where I couldn't find $100. How many posts have we seen on this forum about dog owners who have to wait to payday before they can take their dog to the vet? And then there would be plenty who simply wouldn't want to admit it. I am thankful I never have to worry about that because of the pet insurance I have. .... sounds really good though. Do they have exclusions on which breeds can be insured? No, they don't have breed exclusions as far as I'm aware.
  9. Don't get too excited  You have to pay an excess with PetPlan - $100 I think. I weighed up the pros and cons of what sorts of things I visit my vet for - there have been hotspots, ear infections, grass seeds, etc in the past. All those quick visits would not have been covered by PetPlan because the cost of the visit and medication would only have come to $100 odd. With RSPCA insurance, I don't think twice about taking the dogs to the vet - they just go no matter what the issue is because I always get back 80% of whatever the bill is - be it $50 or $5000. I would hate to be in a position with PetPlan where I had to decide if I had $100 spare to take the dog or cat to the vet
  10. I don't think you are upsetting anyone MM, you are making them aware and everyone is learning - that's a good thing
  11. I use that place all the time - luckily for me, their office is just down the road from work so I just pop in and get what I want. Re the Colloidal silver, for what you are wanting it for - I would be giving a teaspoon to each dog each day for the next couple of weeks. After that, you can just put it in their drinking water as a general immunity booster. You may also like to PM morgan as she is very clued up on lots of alternate ideas.
  12. I *think* I saw it at Osborne Park a little while ago...but I'm not 100% sure. I told my friend she'd have to have it ordered in but she came back to me and said they now have it in the store! so yes, you probably DID see it there!
  13. I originally had to get Better Pets and Gardens in Osborne Park to order it in for me however a friend the other day said they now had it in stock! That means you can either order it in or maybe get it without ordering it from most Better Pets & Gardens, possibly also City Farmers.
  14. Glad you acted so quickly! Here's hoping Hef will be OK
  15. That's so tragic You gave those people a wonderful gift and they will always thank you.
  16. Try Rescue Remedy or Emergency Essence.
  17. What??? That's outrageous! Are you sure it was for 15kg? 'Cos that's about the norm. I didn't know you could get Ziwipeak in a 5kg bag! The 1kg bags do cost about $28 so the price for a 5kg bag would be right. It's super premium food!!! I only use it for treats (which is a very cost effective option for treats as well as it being a healthy treat) - occasionally it migt get sprinkled over a meal. I love all the good stuff in it like green lipped mussels!
  18. It was the dog food - I use them as treats
  19. EXCEPT....... You said to me that Ivy didn't like those treats I gave you. Guess what? They were Ziwipeak dog food Save your money possum!
  20. Have you checked his ears to make sure the smell isn't coming from there?
  21. He was such a handsome boy! How lovely you had 14 years of such love and happiness. That's a lot of fond memories. RIP Bomber boy.
  22. That's good thinking I believe - he may very well be a lot better at home and who knows - even improve more quickly? I might have missed something - swelling to his bladder - no cancer - but what is the swelling due to? Someone hasn't kicked him have they? Or are there details I have missed along the way? I hope you are happy to bring him home for the weekend, even if it's for a little while.
