No her vet wasn't especially cooperative this time apparently. We were talking about it, do you need a referral? What if MM was to see a vet at Murdoch, would she have a better chance of getting a referral do you think?

ooops! But what sort of a name is Beans for a girl anyway?! Her real name is Jenna - and her Pedigree name is Jelebean Classic - as a baby she had so many yippee beans that the name Beans stuck I will often run an agility course sometimes calling her Beans and sometimes calling her Jen - I have been asked before by a judge if I had forgotton which dog I was running That's actually pretty cute and I'd kinda guessed she must have been 'full of beans' or something

Dol Cookbook- Please Help Support
Golden Rules replied to ShesaLikeableBiBear's topic in General Dog Discussion
You have given some great ideas there! I'll have another two please Hesa -
Yes, I'll be there right at the beginning, not doing the walk though, it's usually too crowded! Beans ended up at the vet last night I couldn't put my finger on it, but something wasn't right, she was cuddly, she was quiet and as time went on she started squealing if Cider went to pull on her or when she tried to lay down or get up. Couldn't find what the problem was ? gastro from eating the chocolate, less likely a blockage or a pulled muscle somewhere from doing something - little darling wasn't very cooporative for the vet. Can rule out a blockage so she is on boring food and reduced exercise for a few days and will see what happens. Poor Beans, give him an extra snuggle and cuddle for me

Mdba Pacers , The Dol Cookbook
Golden Rules replied to ShesaLikeableBiBear's topic in General Dog Discussion
I think the point of Hesa's thread was to remind people that one way they can help out with such tragedies as Jed's, is to support the MBDA Pacers - and a way of doing that is to buy a cookbook -

Dreadful dreadful news. My heart goes out to Jed. -
Condolences to your daughter Darien One of our 24 hour emergency vets makes you pay upfront. I had a friend who had his two dogs poisoned. They were vomitting and had diahorrea. The vet clinic made my friend's grandad go home and get his credit card before treating the dogs properly. It is sad that some clinics feel they have to practice this way.

I have never understood the purpose nor interest of Nyla bones. Why would a dog want to chew a bit of hard nylon/plastic with little to no taste? I remember buying them for my Goldies and neither were at all interested.

Pup And Cat Fighting For Dominance....
Golden Rules replied to Bluefairy's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I'm in agreeance here. I'm feeling sorry for the cat and think that the pup needs some stronger ground rules - and a strong leader to put them in place. -
To Break Up The Boredom Or Let Her Get Used To Things?
Golden Rules replied to FranVT's topic in General Dog Discussion
Take up the 'doggy daycare' on the long days, good socialisation for her one way or another. Once you are in a routine, she will be fine. She's perhaps a little anxious with a few different changes lately? -
My vet did my Goldie's cruciates (x2) for $1400 each time. (And then the third one was done for $700 but that's another story) I was quoted $2000 to have the surgery done by an ortho surgeon and would have been happy with that as I have pet insurance however, the ortho surgeon leaves the animals unattended overnight and I wasn't happy with that. (In the end, I brought my boy home after the surgery and did the overnight care myself.) Definitely call around and get some quotes. Hopefully you will get a good recomendation from a Doler.

One of my dogs was a 6 month old from the pound. Perfect age is all I can say! I hope you find just what you are after, the dog you do find will be a very lucky one!

Acl Repair No 2 Has Broken Down...
Golden Rules replied to westiemum's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Best of luck with it Westiemum. If it's any consolation, after the second op on the same leg, my boy has come along in leaps and bounds, literally! He rarely limps these days and his endurance is 100% improved on what it was. I also gave daily Metacam for about 8 months afterwards (the vet thinks he will need it for the rest of his life due to the arthritis) however I have reduced the dosing to every second or third day. I think what it did in the first 8 months was allow the dog to walk and exercise normally, without pain, and using both legs correctly, not favouring one over the other. This helped build up muscle tone which supports the knee as well. I also had a few sessions of acupuncture after the surgery. It's all been worth it -
I would love to help further but bringing home another dog just isn't an option. I can't even think of anyone who might be able to help.

I may be able to help with transport. I have cats so not able to foster. I am available this weekend (working during the week) so if that's of any use, you have my number!

Acl Repair No 2 Has Broken Down...
Golden Rules replied to westiemum's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I have been through exactly the same thing (or rather my dog has!) but I was just like you A. Two cruciate ops, one repair 'half' went almost 12 months later. Vet thought it might just have been scar tissue in the knee joint. I wasn't due to go back to the vet for another 2 weeks but within a week of last seeing the vet, I just called and booked my dog in for the surgery as I knew there was no point in waiting. And you are right, it's only making the 'good' leg more susceptible to damage, the longer you leave it. Good luck, hope everything turns out well! -
Gorgeous love story!

You can not import DAP from outside of Australia, Customs won't allow it. I have imported the refills and the bottles of spray before so you can do it. I think they had to write 'Natural Spray' on the packaging though. I have a spare bottle of DAP spray I no longer need, just sitting here looking for a home .....

Selecting A Crate For A Golden Retriever
Golden Rules replied to goldee's topic in General Dog Discussion
Depends if you have the room to store it. Mine goes under the spare bed and lives there unless someone asks to borrow it. I think it's been lent out more times than I have even used it! -
Selecting A Crate For A Golden Retriever
Golden Rules replied to goldee's topic in General Dog Discussion
The 42" will be perfect. I have this size and yes, while it's a huge monstrosity in my living room, it serves a purpose when required. I bought mine to keep my Goldie in it after he had a couple of cruciate ops - he wasn't crate trained and as much as we practiced before the ops, he really wasn't happy in it so it's rarely been used. I have kept it though as my next puppy will be crate trained. -
