Nothing personal, but I have an issue with statements like that. For starters, I doubt the dog is truly ugly. I accept that you believe it doesn’t match the current interpretation of the breed standard, but so what. I believe that the Breed Standards are significantly broad to allow for some variation. Slavish devotion to a particular interpretation, has in some cases led to some unscrupulous breeders inbreeding to retain the favoured characteristics. That said, if there is an issue of breeding with poor hips, eyes, or temperament, then I’d like to know about that. A little odd to have taken exception to my interpretation of ugly but there you go My friend has since said of her dog that while she loves her dearly, she was just desperate at the time to get her Liver Flat Coat, didn't want to wait and went to that breeder because the pups were readily available. She acknowledged she took a risk, and has said she would never go back there for another dog ever. I don't show so I am not especially familiar with the exact Flat Coat standard ..... but I do know people with beautiful Flat Coats. Their coats ARE flat funnily enough whereas my friend's Liver Flattie has a short fluffy coat like my Goldie ;) Combine that with really short legs, red droopy eyes like a Basset Hound (lower eyelid issue or something) and an unusual shaped head/face ...... well let's just say it's just as well her mother loves her

I have a couple as well and not even taken them out of the packet because they are quite small - and I'm worried the big boofa will just open his gob, tip his head back (as he does...) and one will get stuck in his throat! I guess it would show up easily enough on Xray ;)

Go Joelle!!! :D

Low fat healthy food hey?! SPOILT rotten your dogs are!!!!
-
Yes I agree!! He is past playing games, his intelligence is saved for 'higher' existence ;) PS Dougal would do the same except he would stand there and bark at me to remove the towel. If I wasn't there, he would help himself

Americans say this all the time - I don't think they realise it doesn't make sense ;)

Happy belated Birthday ST!! I have no idea what your vid was all about Ptolomy (no sound here at work) but it looked liked a heap of fun!! ;)

I think you may have been lucky with your flatcoats to date. I have a friend with a Liver flatcoat from the breeder you are referring to and the dog is the ugliest dog! It just doesn't look like a Flatcoat at all. Her temperament is fine, no issues there. She has had eye problems though. If you go into the Breeds 101, search for Flat Coats and maybe PM some of the posters there? ILFC is a Doler with a Flat Coat and she will also give you advice as to who to steer clear of (her dog has cost her upwards of $10K so far). Hope you find a perfect Flatcoat!

I've only just seen this thread. Very sorry to hear you have lost another beautiful girl Ann I had a wee giggle about Faith getting to sit on the couch again ..... when I brought Duncan's ashes home, they were sitting on the front passenger seat in the car - where Duncan always insisted on sitting, and I always insisted on him getting out of the front seat and into the back ..... but I smiled to myself on the way home thinking he was now allowed to sit in the front with me, after all our struggles RIP Faith, run free forever.

Bayswater is closest ;) Let me know if you want a lift from there and I can pick you up. I am looking for a professional photographer to take pics of Mason, I have enquired with a few, their studio sessions are cheap but then buying the canvases etc is so pricey I am just going to go with a photographer who does the normal prints and not the fancy stuff for now... Try Diana at animalinfo she is brilliant Yes she is brilliant! Mas, she was the photographer at the retrieving trial at Northam. Nice lady and her website is full of fantastic photos

Yep, I am not so keen if snakes are a concern I will be at Riverside this weekend as always ..... probably fairly early though 9 - 9.30ish. Do you go to riverside every sat morning? kids tball starts on 9th oct but hopefully i should be free (not this one ) one of the weekends! Rosie would love a run and splash Yes, I am there every Saturday and Sunday mornings at the moment (usually anywhere between 9am to 11am) but once it warms up in summer, it will be late arvo or evenings usually. What are you doing Sat 26th Sept? A couple of us are meeting at Piney Lakes in Murdoch - no water for the dogs there but a nice big off leash area ;)

A Good And Proper Budget Dry Food/kibble?
Golden Rules replied to biscuit_the_golden's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Bonnie and Coprice are two brands that I would recommend as being very good value for money. Around $40 odd for 20kg bag. This is what I have used in the past for big and little dogs. (You can get both in puppy 'formula'. I feed raw as well so one bag lasts for months. I also like some of the more premium brand dog foods and will buy them whenever I can afford it. I haven't noticed a difference with coats etc but it makes a huge difference as to what you pick up in the yard. Bonnie & Coprice meant big poos while the premium brands always mean little poos. -
Hehehe... I think you meant me GR! Yes we're still coming! Mas: We won a voucher for Ellas photo shoot. We got suckered in big time, we loved the photos so much and ended up spending over $1000 on the photos! Thankgod for ezypay I've been wanting to do another with Ella, just not in a studio like those were, but again the cost is a factor! If she gets her brother next year they'll def. being getting photos done! Oooh, sorry, I did mean you guys but I was thinking Joelle as well ...... or maybe I was just thinking cute young Goldies?! I think Rach could have found herself a job - photo shoots?? You said you were looking for a job Rach!

Healthiest Diet For Golden Retriever?
Golden Rules replied to kwirky's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
ANy raw meat is good, as long as it's not alive when they eat it. Just note that for the first month or so after your puppy comes home, you should stick to whatever the breeder has been feeding so as to avoid possible tummy upsets. My puppy will be fed a combo of raw and kibble (just for convenience sake), and the first bones he will get will be a chicken drumstick or chicken wing. Once he is bigger he will get a whole chicken carcass for breakfast eavery day :D -
Well I defiantly think its my bed time that was deliberate before anyone corrects it :D

That is just disgusting!
