Are they scared of anything? he used to be scared of loud noises but now is deaf so nothing worries him. What training methods do you use? when he was young we used positive reinforcement and treats. now we have to yell otherwise he can't hear you, we don't expect him to do much ..

  3. what fantastic photos ... I now have bully envy!!!!
  4. Oh Atlas isnt a fan of the vets he grows and crys and goes nuts, my vet is used to him and just does what needs to be done, while cracking up laughing at what a sook my Big Tuff Bull Terrier is ahh ... but Atlas looks devine .. i'm sure he is just pretending and he really is a tough boy! i love your photo of him with the bin lid ...
  5. Many years ago i did vet nursing and I have very strong memories of various breeds, what i remember about bullies is we loved it when they were our patients, the ones i dealt with were friendly dogs that were easy to handle, you could do a number of procedures and they would not complain. we would call them Stoic. One of our vets had two white ones as pets and they were very comical but in no way guard dogs ... I have a bully x which came to us as an adult ... he is the best! if i didn't already have three dogs i would definitely consider a bully high on my list of wanted.. so big fan here ...
  6. no me but i would love a week at home with a new puppy! ...
  7. oh if only i could .. but we already have a full house!
  8. I buy my dryfood online .. human grade mince, chicken necks etc from Coles. anything else we have a petbarn closeby ..
  9. I'm sorry I don't have any advice except to show her love and give it time ... but I wanted to say good on your parents for giving Sadie and Poppy a home .. my two rescue dogs have been a challenge in very different ways but their love and devotion knows no bounds.
  10. fantastic photos Kirty .. thanks for sharing! but is that really a cat? looks more like an oriental catperson to me ... I love Orientals!
  11. I would never buy from a petshop that sells live animals. I avoid going anywhere near them because its far too upsetting. My very simple view is if there are no customers buying then they would not be selling the live animals.
  12. The obvious choice would be a "staffy" cross "mastiff" of course! i should have know...
  13. three sets of eyes all looking at me pleading to be fed ... no chance of forgetting at my place.
  14. what a lovely girl ... i'm no expert but her face, ears and feet remind me of my old boy Zac .. he is a bully x border collie.. SBT123 .. my boy is higher than my knee but lower than my husband's knee .. so does that make him a staffy x or a mastiff x ?
  15. my three have a quick brush after each walk and then a bath if i notice they are a bit smelly ... so no fixed routine.
  16. I have three dogs, one old boy who we have had since he was young and two rescues that i got as adults (foxy and tib spaniel mix). I walk the two small ones together and the old boy has short walks when he feels up to it. I like that they have each other for company and do seem to enjoy themselves together, but given the choice they would all prefer to be with us humans than the dogs. What i do notice is it does take more time, more food and more worry when i want to go away. Forget having a nice backyard, more paws to dig and more poos to clean up. I love that they have different personalities and wouldn't change anything. They all sleep inside at night and have the run of the backyard and big deck during the day ... but sometimes when i have nice backyard envy i wonder if i only had one would it be easier? then i look at those 6 sets of eyes and don't care. If we have a weekend away i pay a local dog sitter to visit twice a day to let them in or out of the house, feed and walk them. If its a longer holiday the small ones go into kennels and the old boy stays with family. So i need to budget for not only our accommodation but theirs..

  20. Can i join in too? This is such a great idea ... my two are so fat from lack of exercise i'm feeling very guilty. so tonight we went for a 40 minute walk.. poor Meeka is exhausted! Bandit is a foxy and is always ready for anything.
  21. I know exactly how you feel Poodlefan ... my latest one was a gentleman walked past me with his head down hands behind his back purposely walking along and i thought oh good no dog to try and deal with .. until we reached the path a good 20 metres further down the track and walked straight into his poor old dog who obviously couldn't keep up .. the poor old boy/girl took one look at my two, turned and ran in the opposite direction. The owner had to back track a fair way just to get him back... i felt so sorry for the little dog.. i'm left wondering if the man forgot he had a dog?
  22. Hi Ian, I was very interested to read your reply, I too fed Proplan and have been very happy with how my two dogs have been doing on it. But i had one issue with it .. they wouldn't eat just the proplan dry i had to add something else to temp them to finish it, especially my very old boy. I changed to Orijien mainly because of what i read on this site, i haven't found a supplier in the ACT so ordered from Pookinuk .. fast service and postage was only $5 .. initially i wasn't that impressed but because i had the big bag decided to keep going so as to finish it. Amazingly my dogs now eat dry only and have chicken wings for breakfast, they eat all of the dry and now look great. My old boy really does seems to be feeling great. So whilst i agree stick to what you find is best.. i think sometimes a change can be for the better ... :D regards .. Lynda
