I agree about the spotty ones. Georgia's tail is so bad that when i took her into the vet clinic to have her desexing stitches out she came home with a bloody tail. She had been so excited that she kept going whack whack whack with it into the walls and had blood splattered everywhere. She came out with the end of her tail wrapped up.

Urgent Assistance Needed In The Wagga Area
perrin replied to Steve's topic in General Dog Discussion
Steve, i can't help with the dogs, but if you have no luck with placing the horse locally it would be welcome to come here to Bendigo as long as it is not a stallion. I don't have adequate fencing for a stallion but currently have plenty of grass. Cheers. -
Collar only when out. A few weeks ago my Mum and i were driving home when we saw a scruffer dog dodging traffic. We did a u turn and went back for him. He had a collar but no tags so i ended up driving back into town to our nearest clinic and they scanned him for a chip. Thankfully he had one and they were able to contact his owner. I always thought you left a collar on so that you could put tags on it but if you aren't going to bother why leave it on at all. And if they were lost why not get a replacement from council. I keep the tags on the collar and put it on when we leave the yard.

I like either McIvor Road clinic or White Hills (which is smaller but i really like the vet and so do my animals ).

What's the name of the actual Vet/s there? Just curious . Sue

I hope not. My dog was once refered to at dog obedience as the dog that needed valium.

As a "pet home" owner I would like to see a bit of information about the breeder. How long they have been breeding for, why they got into breeding etc etc. I like easy to navigate websites. Photos of their dogs. Not just show photos, but photos of them being dogs. I want to see them down and dirty in the mud. Laying on the couch if that's what they enjoy doing, but really i want to see them as part of the family. And past dog photos. A short pedigree is always good as well. I don't need to see a long in depth one. I think that if people are interested in the lines of the dog or for a dog for showing they will do their research and chat to the breeder anyway.

Have you got any elastoplast around the bandage Sheridan? With the horses we bandage with something like the teraflex cohesive bandage and then elastoplast top and bottom to keep it secure. You could wrap the whole leg in the stuff to keep it secure so he can't pull it off. And then put something foul tasting on it. If you are close to Bendigo i have some i can give you. It's a pain being a public holiday.

Foods That Are Poisonous For Dogs
perrin replied to Westie Girl's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Found out the hard way about the apples. Georgia devoured a heap of them that had fallen off our apple tree and made herself quite ill. -
Losing a horse to a dog attack is a terrible ordeal. Having gone through it before i am very sorry for this poor persons ponies. We lost a weanling filly to a broken leg after being chased and attacked by dogs. Not to mention the injuries sustained by the other horses in the paddock as well.

She's a dalmatian I think most dogs don't have a problem though have heard that the seeds can be poisonous. It was the amount she ate that i think was the problem. Going by the bits of half chewed up apple that i found when we got back from the clinic she had a good go at them. They definitely weren't sitting well in her tummy. She's feeling much better now. Sucking up all the sympathy whilst she can.

Georgie just had a trip to the vet after consuming a large number of apples that had fallen down off the apple trees in the wind. Normally i do pick them up when i see them but we have been having pretty severe winds on and off the last couple of days which is really contributing to them dropping. Luckily i was home and noticed that she wasn't well pretty much straight away and she will be fine. She is pretty sore in the gut but is at home snoozing and is on medication to hopefully settle her tummy down. All those fermenting apples. Georgies symptoms were fairly mild but consisted of her trying to vomit and gagging, panting, itching and runny poo and also she was quite listless, walking around with her head down. At first i put it down to the heat but after an hour under the aircon with no change it was a quick call and off to the vet. Dogs. Worse than children.

If you have tasmanian oak and it is good condition i would just sand it back and varnish it or stain it without varnishing. Floor boards are fantastic when you have pets, so much easier to keep clean. We have the laminate ones down and they are doing well though Georgie (dalmatian) does prefer to spend a lot of time outdoors and only really comes inside when she wants to con food out of you and at bed time.

Cop Accused Of Cruelty After Taking Two Shots To Kill Kangaroo
perrin replied to Steve's topic in In The News
I saw this on the news. They showed footage of the kangaroo lying across tram lines with traffic going both ways. I agree with the policeman. Better to put it down then to leave it there with a broken leg when animal aid workers were not able to get to the scene. And good on the police force for standing by that man and saying he did the right thing. It couldn't have been an easy thing to do espeically with so many onlookers. -
I tried to talk my vet into a stray kitten that i had taken in to check for a chip last Monday but they wouldn't be in it. Said they already had two. I was surprised as i had never seen them before but they apparently just stay out the back of the clinic.

My husband always tells me that it is just a body. That their soul has gone to heaven but they always live on in your heart. It does make it easier to say goodbye. With my old lab my husband made me leave him at the vet clinic even though i wanted to take him home and bury him. Unfortunately the ground was as hard as a rock and i was heavily pregnant at the time. I was very distraught over it and i know that some people would think he was horrible to do something like that but in hindsight it was probably the best deciscion he could have made. We were with him at the end and i held him as he was pts and that's where it counts. My husband later presented me with a series of photos that he had taken of myself and Rast as we were helping him into the car and saying goodbye. Oh heck i am

Mine is the same as SBT123. Minus the washing basket but has an old doona cover draped over it at night for privacy.

I'm not into showing but it may have something to do with trying to attract tourism to Bendigo. They have revamped the showgrounds in an effort to attract people and have been using recycled water to water the grounds to make it more appealing and bring visitors back to the area. Especially the horse industry.

Calming Down An Excited/anxious Dog
perrin replied to jaybeece's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I can't help but our Georgie sounds very similar. So i know exactly where you are coming from. She is shocking at dog obedience. Some weeks i wonder why i bother yet i still perservere with her. Yesterday she was hyped up and anxious. Spent most of the class barking, whining, yawning and rolling around on the grass. Oh yes and distracted, hanging off the end of the lead. She will even do backflips in the air. It makes me feel like the cr*ppiest dog owner. It is the only time she behaves that. At home she is fine. We go out together and she is fine. We visit people in their homes and she is fine. We got to dog obedience and she loses any ability to think. It's embarrassing and makes you feel like a failure. Yet at home she can be handled by the children aged 7 and 4. They have taught her tricks. How to beg, crawl, roll over and have her fetching their balls for them when they play cricket! Yesterday was awful. I was feeling sick and i don't know whether she was more tense because i myself was feeling anxious, but i could barely get anything out of her until the end of class when i walked her off by herself and spent one on one time with her. During classes i often have to walk her off until she settles before rejoining the others in the classe. -
Thanks for the suggestion. We are going to come down on Sunday for a look and to see if we like it. Just look for the short woman with the uncontrollable dalmatian ;) because i can say with great confidence that Georgie is going to be so excited at all the dogs and people that she will forget that she does sometimes have manners and can listen to commands.

Nah. You can type it into Google and then click on the cached at the bottom of the link and it will show you the site. Well what was on the site before it was pulled anyway.

Just looking for some recommendations (or for anywhere else that is fairly close by). I am hoping to start obedience with Georgie soon. Now that the weather is nicer and family life has eased a bit Georgie and I really need some training. Feel free to PM me if you prefer. Thanks.

Soft Tissue Sarcoma & Rspca Insurance
perrin replied to nillasdad's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Great to hear that Vanilla was covered Seagate. I don't know what Vanillas wound looks like now but Manuka Honey is fantastic as a healing agent. It is something i use on my horses all the time when they have a wound. Just put it on and bandage. -
That is hilarious.

I forgot to come and give an update! Too much excitement going on at our house. The vet did a fine needle aspiration on her nose and declared it a lump that had hardened into a cyst. I must admit i was getting a bit paranoid (even though i saw her run into the step so knew what it was from) because i had recently had to pts our old horse because of re-curring cancer. But the vet said it should be fine and will check when i take her back to get her stitches out.
