Working As A Groomer For A Vet

Thanks for your input Shantiah and Crisovar , after running my own business for over 12 years I like being in control of what goes on. If this does happen I guess some longs talks are to occur . -
Working As A Groomer For A Vet

This is purely hypothetical at this stage, just wanted to get some info from those who have knowledge on this subject. -
I'm after any advice on starting up a grooming practice at a vets. I've only ever worked in salons or for myself and have no idea on how this arrangement would work. Would you supply all your equipment ,rates of pay and any pros or cons. Thanks.

My old poodle has been on this for years, once a day. I swapped to the liver chews instead of the powder as I found it easier to give, she takes it off my hand. Also with the powder some got left behind in the bowl, this way i know she is getting the whole amount.

Is there anything that can be done to help ? I'm sure she isn't aware of zoning out ,but it worries me.

I would often find my old Poodle Rocky frozen to the spot from time to time,he would be just standing in a room or whatever and would only move if he was distracted by a loud noise or a touch. Some days he did it multipul times others not at all. My now 14 yr old Poodle is starting to do the same thing ,though not to the same degree yet .Both dogs were/are almost blind and almost deaf .Anyone else seen this in a dog or have any thoughts. Rocky was a healthy 15 yr old until the day he suddenly had a huge seizer and had to be PTS. Shanania is a active dog for her age and in good health, just some arthritis problems.

My males have always been on the thin side compared to my girl . My old boy Rocky never really filled out till he was about 3 or 4 years, but he was never fat 8-9 kg. D'Argo currently 3 and about 15 inches weighs around 8-9kg ,he eats well but he feels thin under the hair. Shanania has always had a weight problem only has to look at food and on goes the weight, typical girl. She is usually around 10kg but has been more ,she is desexed so may make a difference ,the boys weren't.

Can't compare to Royal Canin never used it ,but I and my dogs love Nutro. They are on the sensitive formula ,my old girl who has always had skin issues is doing really well on it.No hotspots, chewing and licking like before and to boost they love it. They have been on it since early this year.

Have to agree with Clyde there, dog grooming is not easy.To do it properly takes time and time equals money.

Pegasus I asume you still require a vac. for kennel cough for the boarding kennel ?
-
Thanks for that.Unfortunatley my dogs go to kennels a few times a year so have no option As my young dog recently had a bad vac reaction I was hopeing to titer test for everything.I've been told it is the kennel cough vac most dogs react to.

Yes I am getting a replacement from the same line breeding but he is already one year old and has already sired lovely pups.Deceided on the older boy rather than a pup as at least I know he has no hip ot leg faults. I think you missed the point, the problem is already in the pesons lines.Just beacause your new dog has good legs does'nt mean puppies from him will. It will pop up again, that is the nature of genetics.Do you want someone to go through what you already have? But more importantly produce a pup that will live alife of pain? Don't want to come across as picky, but i see so many badly breed dogs, why add to it when you have the knowledge and can do something about it now.
-
I was told you can't titer test for kennel cough and it still has to be done yearly. As I've seen no results here for it I assume this is right?
-
Thanks everyone ,if my dogs did'nt go to boarding kennels from time to time I would'nt even go the C5 but don't have any other option. Will be giving the C7 a miss for sure.
-
My 14 month old dog is due for vaccination soon, after this one will go for titer test.As a pup my vet told me to have c7 as he was a show dog and could come in contact with more dogs with problems.I'm now thinking was it really needed ,so want to go back to c5 like my other dogs.Is there any problem going back ?

thanks for the replies. Not 100 % sure we have them in the lawn but there is something bitey out there. As for flea rinse ,nasty stuff and don't use it unless I have to,it never kills all fleas anyway. Not sure anything really does these days.A lot of the dogs I deal with are treated with Frontline etc. yet still have flea problems from time to time.
-
Does anyone know what works to kill fleas and eggs in your lawn ? Have been running the hydrobath water onto the grass and think i have a problem now.
-
I also have a liberty frame ,have had it a few years so can't remember how much. Also being a bussiness i go through a wholesaler so would of been cheaper.
-
I ordered the joint guard through the link Westiemum gave, they are much cheaper, should arrive tomorrow. Will keep you all updated as to how we go.
-
Thanks for all the information everyone, looks like i'll give Joint Guard a go.My 2 have been on glucosamine tablets for years but don't seem to be doing as well as they used to.Does anyone know should they still do the higher inital level even though they have been on glucosamine ? Thanks westiemum for the link.
