Unusual Activities You Do With Your Dogs
*Avanti* replied to grumpette's topic in General Dog Discussion
I love the stories and pics Grumpette and Aleksandr. The water ones brought to mind my old Lab boy Maya who was a prolific swimmer. He swam daily in a local river. Sometimes he wouldn't retrieve the stick we'd thrown but instead bring back rubbish so we took advantage of this and eventually got him to help clean up the river. All we had to do was pretend to be throwing something and yell "bring it Maya, bring it" and he would go and find a plastic bottle and bring it back where we would bin it! I think he deserved a Clean up Austalia award for his achievements as he must have removed kilos of rubbish from that river. I don't have a good digital pic handy but here is a tattered old one of him swimming. And no stick was too small, he even dragged a dead tree out of a dam once. RIP Maya, I'll never forget him! -
I'm sorry for your loss, RIP Georgia.

Early Signs Of Renal Disease Plus Pancreatitis
*Avanti* replied to Stitch's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
One of my Labradors had pancreatitis and a few years later after recovering from that had kidney failure. She had been on a fresh roo meat diet when the kidney failure developed but I don't know if that contributed to it. I took her off it though and she was given Royal Canin renal formula dry food for at least six months. Her condition improved and I put her on Advance Weight Control that is low in fat and she has been ok for years (she turned 12 yesterday :) ). I realise your dog's issues are different but thought to share my experience though this is probably not much help. I hope you find some answers and her condition improves. -
Wanting To Adopt A Lab - Where Do I Post?
*Avanti* replied to Seren's topic in General Dog Discussion
I also support the suggestion that a male companion for Holly may be a better choice. If two females don't get on it can get quite nasty, but I'm not saying this will necessarily happen of course! Where are you located approximately Seren so we could look around for you? (Having two Labs here snoozing on my couch atm I'll take any excuse to look at some more lovely Labs :) ). -

I ditto Sir Snook's words. Being only one year old would give her a good chance of healing well I would think. Sending my best wishes for a speedy recovery. It sounds like she is in good hands. :)

Aww, what a handsome boy he is Snippy. :)

You can do it yourself but read up on it well as I'm sure you will. I haven't needed to do it for years but I remember you have to turn things like gas pilot lights off (heating units etc) because the bombs are flammable, or used to be. I hope you get rid of them all soon, it's no fun having flees and you have my sympathy. .

I'm very sorry for you loss, and it being so sudden. RIP Maisie

17 Year Old Shepx In Hawkesbury :(
*Avanti* replied to HazyWal's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Bless the poor old girl. Given her age I hope they might reduce the adoption fee to increase her chances. -
Another Stan and Maddie fan here. :)

I've only just caught up on Cooper's story. I'm so impressed with your dedication bianca.a and what a gorgeous boy he is. He'll be a happy chappy now once he's fully healed. Sending some gentle pats. :)
