  1. When I took my German shepherd for training they said we MUST have those type of collars, we didn't have a choice. It never bothered my dog but I don't know about other breeds.
  2. I think the breeder should have advised you on what sort of commitments a GSD needs. I know many people who get these dogs are not fully aware of how much work and attention they will need. We had one and it was full on, with training, walking him, attention etc and we still had problems. When you have a new baby you won't have the energy or the time to spend with the dog so the problems will get even worse. I think police work would be a good alternative as they train them and keep them mentally occupied too so thats a good suggestion.
  3. My dog won't eat it, its the only meat he won't touch.
  4. I have met quite a few people who have out of control German Shepherds, whether its running away, biting, or barking etc. These people were in the suburbs and the dogs probably didn't get enough exercise. We had a German Shepherd and I took him to training which helped. One thing which calmed my dog down was after going for a long walk. I know its difficult for you as I also found it a full on job. I agree that getting him desexed will help. What exactly is a check chain? Is that the same as a choker chain? Anyway, since you are not in the suburbs you can let him run around loose, he wouldn't need tying up ?? Another suggestion, maybe get him a companion, so the two dogs can keep eachother company and won't get so lonely or bored when you are at work. Good luck!!
  5. I've always had puppies who chew, dig, bark, run around like crazy, jump, etc, etc. Its exhausting I know, but hopefully they will soon grow out of it. Maybe they are ready for "puppy school". LOL
